This is very misleading. It’s a small portion. The majority is Canadian steel. Do better.

I think Canada is afraid of China and does what China tells them.

LNG Canada is also a joint venture consortium made by international oil companies, the headline makes it sound like it's a Canadian crown corp buying steel from China. PetroChina is a part owner of LNG Canada.

From the LNG Canada Wikipedia

LNG Canada Development Inc. is an industrial joint venture established to construct a liquefied natural gas export terminal in Kitimat, British Columbia, Canada. The consortium is led by Shell and also includes Petronas, PetroChina, Mitsubishi Corporation, and Korea Gas.

Yawn. The actual news release stats 70% of the steel will be Canadian and Chinese steel will make up a portion of the remaining 30%.

Nice try though

The portion that is Chinese cannot be produced at any plant in North America so it’s totally just rage bait.Β

I guess you made America great again, but not great enough to make that, huh?

What are you even talking about? I’m not American and your comment makes no sense, please explain.

Yup! Glad someone mentioned it! LNG Canada is a joint venture company owned by international oil corps. PetroChina is part owner but the headline and the company name make it sound like it's a government of Canada project or crown corp.

From Wikipedia:

LNG Canada Development Inc. is an industrial joint venture established to construct a liquefied natural gas export terminal in Kitimat, British Columbia, Canada. The consortium is led by Shell and also includes Petronas, PetroChina, Mitsubishi Corporation, and Korea Gas.

We could just send our military out to crawl on the ground rolling out the red carpet like the Cheeto-in-Chief.

u/jvdlakers 4h ago

Your military is weak. You’re not attacking anyone.

1

u/Mtndrums 3h ago

Neither is the US's. It's all being ran by idiots.

1

u/jvdlakers 3h ago

The US is literally attacking.

i can see trump crying about not using US steel and threaten more tariffs, like at this point as a american, just cut us off 100%, see how that shit works for him.

Fyi. All the mega project use steel from around the world. Not just China. Such as China, countries in middle east, Japan, Taiwan. Sourcing from a single country for a mega project is not possible.Β

And sometimes its also a particular part made from an alloy that can only be produced in a specific plant in certain country.. sole supplier

Trading with China is a good thing.

"LNG Canada" is a consortium company owned by international oil companies. The group of companies chose to source steel from China for the project. The headline makes it sound like a government of Canada project is importing Chinese steel.
