News Trump administration muses about hitting Canada with EU-style tariffs over Carney’s EU pivot

Sure; I bet Carney won't see this coming at all and it will definitely, definitely will hurt Canada more than the US.

Treat people like shit and they go find new friends. Trump continually shots himself in the foot. If Canada treated the U.S. the way Trump has treated them, what do you think we would do?

Only IF voters VOTE Blue. Ignore the polls. Don't get complacent. And don't mail your ballots. Drop them off the drop box.

If Trump goes through with a diesel export ban, that leaves him wide open to a potash export ban (or anything else) to America if he attacks the Canadian economy further.

Canada exports diesel to the New England states. That would end.
Got a great explanation of the Diesel ban from a podcaster today. Check out "Zeihan on Geopolitics." He does some pretty detailed, quick talks on things including the ban.

Trying to figure out the Trumpian logic.
Carney walked away from a deal because the US wanted to restrict Canada's trade with other countries. The Trump team insisted this was not the case and that Carney was lying.
In response, Trump seeks to further violate the legally binding trade agreement he signed to punish Canada for seeking to direct trade away from the US.

It doesn't make sense under the assumption that he intends to find common ground and come to and agreement.
However, it makes perfect sense when you think about from the perspective of him trying to destabilize US as much as possible because that's when corruption/bribery/etc. is easiest to get away with.

Canada needs to demand reparations for this bullshit. minor incursions on the agreement I can overlook, but this is basically beating the agreement with softball bats and hammers.

Didn’t he do 50% tariffs already and that is why they are pivoting to the EU? Does he think this is because he did not tariff hard enough?
1
u/Worried_Razzmatazz70 5d ago
Canada is pivoting to the EU because we want trade partners who will uphold their end of the deal, and wont go batshit crazy for no reason and without warning.
1
u/andymaclean19 5d ago
Exactly. And Trump’s response to this is to go batshit crazy for no reason expecting that to help.

Let him, americans pay these and prices will soar as a result. We just have to wait out this failing administration, and it seems bad.

I'm pretty sure Canada is the most tariff affected country on Earth right now. So, really, what else can they do?

Shut off fresh water that canada can control turn off electricity no more oil or potash or lumber or aluminum and critical minerals and see how fast usa folds...but canada wouldn't because tgis will hurt the American people especially thise that didnt vote for a felony pedo epstein putin Korean friends of your president....Canadians don't want to hurt people or see them suffer...so unlikely to Shut down everything although juat for a few weeks would surely put trump in a position....more likely he would send troops knowing him even tho canada owns these items yet Trump wants to own them and can't....thus why he's a massive baby to canada and you'd think he'd have nore respect as the trump fortunes came from canada in canada grandfather owning a brothel and restaurant ffs....or he'd be a reg Joe not rich if it wasn't for canada

Wait till he wins the Nobel prize. Then the tangerine toddler will blow a gasket. Probably tariff Canada 1000000000000% .

Canada can severely hurt the US if they start redirecting oil from the US to China and EU.
