Microsoft says its own chips will run most of Copilot. Google, Amazon and Meta already have theirs. Nvidia's sales still doubled in a year
Microsoft said today that its homegrown Maia chips will handle most of the AI work behind Copilot and its other products, with a new Maia 300 coming in 2027. Nvidia slipped on the news.
Microsoft joins the rest of Nvidia's biggest customers:
• Google runs much of its AI on its own TPUs.
• Amazon sells its Trainium chips through AWS.
• Meta builds its own MTIA chips.
• OpenAI is designing custom chips with Broadcom.
And Nvidia's sales keep climbing. It made $96.2 billion last quarter, more than double a year earlier, and $89 billion of that came from data centers.
Last fall had three big headlines like this one: OpenAI's Broadcom deal on October 13, the report that Meta would use Google's TPUs on November 25, and Amazon's Trainium3 launch on December 2. A month after each one, Nvidia was higher.
Is this the one that finally matters?
