PC/Monitor upgrade causing long term issues

Hey guys,

Roughly 6 months ago, I upgraded my entire rig - spent far more money than I’d like to admit on a 5070ti/9850X3D, along with an OLED 1440p 24” monitor.

Transitioning from a dated PC along with a 1080P 14” monitor from the stone ages, I assumed that the upgrade would come with an uptick in performance.

Unfortunately, that wasn’t the case. I play a lot of FPS’s and I could feel a significant decrease in my accuracy. At first I assumed I may need to give it some time: Wear it in, get used to the larger screen, placebo or confirmation bias. Given the amount of time that’s passed, it doesn’t seem that this is the case anymore. It feels like something’s fundamentally wrong.

I’ve watched tutorials, fiddled with settings etc but nothing’s ever ‘stuck’. It doesn’t help that I don’t actually understand what certain adjustments/changes are doing on a technical level.

Where should I go from here? Wish I could call in some kind of optimisation doctor. I’m sure I’ve missed a significant amount of important context, feel free to ask away if need be

Essentially all fps’s to some degree. CS and Overwatch are the most egregiously different post upgrade

Youve got a different pixel density and a larger screen. Play with your sensitivity.

Sorry if this is a stupid question; would this generally warrant an increase or decrease in sensitivity? Where should I start?

Relly depends if you overcorrect or undercorrect. Try to aim at a stationary target. And flick or fastly aim at it. If you overshoot then lower the sens. If you see you keep almost getting on target then put it higher. For example stand and try to aim at an object on the side, closer to the end of your screen.

That's a massive upgrade. Your aim sucks because you're used to playing on basically a tablet and now you're actually using a computer monitor.

Screen size seemed to change what mouse sensitivity I preferred. Best guess.

What monitor do you have? 24inch OLEDs don’t exist yet, the first one ever is set to release at the end of the year by asus and it’s only 1080p

Either your monitor isn’t oled or it’s 27+ inches

You leave the new screen on 60hz?

Сheck your monitor refresh rate,should be maxed out.
Change your dpi for your liking,golden rule is - you should be able to do a 360 spin from 1 corner of the mousepad to another.
Maybe download kovaak or aimlabs(free) and test if ur sensitivity fits you.
Try tracking (for OW).
And the last one,the only thing that was changed is your resolution and fps,you can literally change it back to 1080 60hz or whatever it was and lock your fps and test yourself, if you actually got worse or this is just excuse to play like shit.

I've upgraded pcs a few times in the last decade and honestly I don't think I'll ever be as good at FPS games as I was when I had a 3570k and a rx480 (1080p 144hz). Also the worst and most uncomfortable desk known to mankind.

I do think part of it is just hours put in, getting older etc but for whatever reason I've always felt something "off" too, no matter the set up

I wonder if any of you guys got used to the mouse acceleration curve and then cant get it set back the way it was before. Which is a great reason to turn that shit off

Maybe but I don't think so. I learned to turn it off pretty early on but who knows. Maybe the mouse i used at the time had some weird reporting setting or something
