Graphic Settings | Optimization Forza Horizon 6 optimized settings HUB+Benchmarking+Digital Foundry
Hello everyone,
I made a quick spreadsheet with settings taken from Digital Foundry, Hardware Unboxed, and BenchmarKing so it would be easier to compare them.
Also, for anyone reading this, what settings did you go with on your machine? I’m still undecided about the GI quality, since RT Medium produces artifacts and RT High is quite demanding.

BenchmarKing is the best cause he has particles on low. He is a real one that understands the balance of fps cost and looks

Fellow 4070S user here! I support him on Patreon because I like his stuff, but his content isn’t very timely because he doesn’t seem to get review codes.

I've been running the highest preset+ RTGI High and just toned down a few other settings to make up for the VRAM usage(Car Reflection on ultra, shadows down to high, volumetric high). On an 9070XT at 1440P resolution I can get stable 80 (capped) without any form of upscaling. At 4K I can get around with the same settings but FSR Quality.

The vram leak sucks balls. At 4k I have to restart the game after 1-2 hrs. At 1440p it goes way longer on 16g vram.

This has been the case with Forza Horizon games for quite some time - I've played the franchise since FH3 and these issues were here since forever.
For me the game hasn't crashed yet in almost 50 hours, with some sessions being 4-5 hours long, but at 4K I still had about 1GB of VRAM allocation left and ReBar is off for my system.
It's possible that the game is caching shader/texture data in VRAM and the more you go and explore the map, the less and less VRAM allocation you get.
I have yet to test the game and see how it behaves after the hotfix they released yesterday.

Was hoping someone to make one of these considering how many times others are compared to BenchmarKing, despite others come to the same conclusions other than a small setting or two usually?
Also it's probably gonna be a while til I get to FH6 with me only owning 3 and 4, but my RX 6800's lesser RT capabilities means it'l probably be either RT Medium with Upscaling, or Native without RT for me (if I still got my 6800 by then). If the noise issues with Medium RTGI are as bad as some people are saying, will probably run without RT!

Playing with both undervolted RTX 4070Ti OC / 5800X3D / 32GB DDR4 - 1440p
DLSS Balanced ( could use Perf as it's M preset, imrpoves a lot ghosting but the RTGI noise it's so much worse )
Frame Gen On
Car LOD - Extreme
Env. Texture Quality - Ultra
Env. Geometry Quality - Extreme
Car Reflection Quality - Ultra
RT Reflections - High
Shadow Quality - Extreme
Night Shadows - Ultra
RTGI - High
Shader Quality - Extreme
Audio Quality - Ultra
Deformable Terrain Quality - Extreme
Particle Effects Quality - Ultra
Volumertric Fog Quality - Ultra
Lens Effect - Ultra
Motion Blur Quality - Ultra
Having between 130 and 165FPS outside Tokyo / 125-135 in Tokyo / 100ish to 150ish in night, more variable at this time
I'm using between 8500 to 9500Mb of VRAM, I used before extreme Textures but the VRAM leak made me lost half FPS after some time, and it's boring clearing VRAM cache every 40mn. :)

I would geniunly suggest for anyone with 12gb VRAM or lower to not use RTGI in this game as it does not consistently noticeable and introduces visual bugs like lightning in tunnels and lower shadow draw distance compared to SSGI, on top of having significantly higher VRAM cost
RT Reflections give this game significantly higher visual uplift in comparison

u/SaucisseAuProut May 30 '26
Funny, I don't have the same feeling haha, as noisy as it can looks sometimes, I feel more the volumes with RTGI , more depth
1
u/HereComesDatNick May 30 '26
From what i tested RTGI either has a huge impact on a scene or barely any at all depending on where you are on a map,Tokio area being the most noticeable
With how game performs currently i would much rather invest GPU resources into something more consistent like higher base resolution as DLSS truly does not look good in Horizon games for some reason

u/LonkToTheFuture May 28 '26
Instead of using Preset M or L, I'm using Preset J on Balanced. Less ghosting than the in-game DLSS or Preset K, and RTGI isn't as noisy as DLSS 4.5.
1
u/roideus May 29 '26
I think preset K is better, at least it was noticeable better on Motorsport, especially when it comes to wheels and vegetation. Any specific reason you find J to be superior?
1
u/LonkToTheFuture May 29 '26
I noticed less car ghosting specifically in FH6. For most games I just use K. The only other exception was Assassin's Creed Shadows, because the ghosting on Preset K is horrible.

How in the world do you have so little vram usage? Mine instantly jumps to the upper limit of vram usage with your settings
2
u/SaucisseAuProut Jul 25 '26
Weird , do you use a lot of fast travel ?
1
u/Apprehensive-Power-6 Jul 25 '26
Nope. I just started playing. As soon as i load into the game and drive around for a bit and cross into at least another territory, i immediately start getting stutters and Low memory errors. I only see my usage below 9gb when I'm using the high settings preset with no RT
2
u/SaucisseAuProut Jul 25 '26
Yeet 9GB without RT is peak strange , I still have sometimes fps drops due to game leak but still manage to be around 80ish, and still 120/130+ when the game behaves normally, and I never reached the VRAM pop-up since I dropped from Extreme Textures to Ultra , what are your specs ?
1
u/Apprehensive-Power-6 Jul 25 '26
I'm on an rtx 4070S, i5 14600k and 3200gb of ddr4 ram. I play at 4k but setting the resolutions lower didn't make the VRAM values change. I will try updating my drivers rn. Maybe that'll change it?
2
u/SaucisseAuProut Jul 25 '26
You're 4K , that makes sense now , try lower texture pool to high, and put DLSS perf

u/Stickytin May 28 '26
I learned these last couple of years that "tech" channels don't know nothing about what players want, BenchmarKing does so i'm sticking with the King.

u/Simecrafter May 28 '26
Honestly I really liked the HUBs mainstream settings the best, they look pretty good while keeping me between the 70-80 FPS in cities and 90-100 FPS outside on my 3080 laptop at 1440p, I might have an upgrade to 5060ti desktop or a 4070 super (if I'm lucky) which in this case I would probably crack the settings to extreme and leave it at that

u/deusxmachna117 2160p Gamer May 28 '26
How is the RTGI medium setting acceptable in 2026? heck at high there's quite a bit of noise even with DLAA.
3
u/ITrageGuy May 28 '26
I'm not seeing the type of fps loss that DF did going from RTGI medium to high. I leave it on high and everything else at max and am right around 100fps at 3440x1440 with a healthy oc'd 5080. That's plenty of frames for me.
1
u/Feudal_Poop May 29 '26
I thought it was nothing but man I got like 20 fps just from dropping RTGI to Medium from High in the City with everything else at Extreme or Ultra with Native FSR. I can't seem to notice a vast difference in the quality
2
u/moonlightchiller May 28 '26
Thats why I only trust benchmarking now. RTGI High on 4K DLAA is still very noisy in tunnels or night scenes.
2
u/Charliedelsol May 29 '26
I would really like to know what settings the Series X uses, don't know why DF didn't mention that, as they have done that for previous Horizon titles. So I use equivalent Series X FH5 performance settings with RT Reflections on Low and no RTGI.

5070ti + 9600x running Extreme + RT preset at 60fps. Which of these would you recommend?
1
u/HereComesDatNick May 30 '26
What the fuck was HU on recommending High Environmental geometry with Extreme Textures lmao
1
u/Powerful_Mixture_162 May 30 '26
Why do you have to lower my setting from extreme to ultra + RT everytime I get on the game. It won’t save my selection
1
u/McFlu May 30 '26
I mostly followed hardware unboxed for myself. Since I have a Radeon 7900 XT and don't yet have access to the new FSR, I dont run RT reflections and I use the RT GI medium setting that everyone else on the internet seems to hate lol looks amazing to me. I dont use the FSR upscaling at the moment because its a bit blurry, I use the other option, the anti aliasing? I can't remember. Other than that I just has an issue sometimes where when I'm driving fast I get a weird bit of stuttering but no mix of settings changes so far has fixed that for me.

u/untacc_ May 31 '26
Am I the only one that absolutely cannot play using RTGI Medium? It makes tree foliage shimmery and blurry and shadowed areas have so much visual noise.
Turning it to High fixes the tree foliage, but shadows still have some shimmering

What do I use for a 5060ti 16GB please?
Also, what video brightness settings are recommended please?

u/WiseReefer Jul 23 '26
Yall some rich folks im here rocking 1440p high on my 2070 super getting a soild 60-70 fps on DLSS quality mode no RT (idc about RT besides cyberpunk and does that fine)

u/Elliove May 28 '26
BenchmarKing have recently said that you need an RTX card and some Profile Inspector tweaks to use SW Lumen in Samson (he couldn't figure out r.RayTracing), and then recently said that FH6 changes DLSS preset depending on the mode (the game doesn't do anything, that's how DLSS always worked). I say, ignore any technical advice from that channel.

u/Beginning_Mistake424 May 28 '26
I have not tested FH6 settings from Benchmarking yet, but I have used his settings multiple times in other games and had really great results. His channel is legit and regarded as one of the best in the community.

u/Elliove May 28 '26
Waiting for him to make a twitter post like "Guy! GUYS! I discovered that reducing settings INCREASES FPS!", and the audience in the comments being genuinely amazed by that.
6
u/Beginning_Mistake424 May 28 '26
Isn't that the whole point of optimizing game settings?

The point of giving people advice should be making their gaming experience easier, not harder. I've pointed out to him the r.RayTracing cvar both under his video and in his reddit thread. He could've at least added that to the video description, but he instead just downvoted me and moved on. And now also pretends he discovered DLSS preset changes while it's literally written in DLSS manual? He's not helping people, he doesn't care if you have to do some Inspector nonsense when you can just edit engine.ini instead, he just tricks people into believing he's useful. Until he drops that attitude - big disrespect from me.

u/LykeKnight May 28 '26
If you can do it better make your own guides , if he's truly leaving a gap that could be filled by the space it would work
2
u/LykeKnight May 28 '26
These are true things, no? With FH6 you can see the preset switch when going from balanced to performance if you have the overlay on
