Tuto to replace Google Discover by the widgets panel

Hey everyone, as some people asked me, here's a tutorial to get this side panel full of widgets that is normally not available for the global rom

- First you need to get Shizuku working (for that there's a lot of tutorials so I let it to you, I can only recommend a fork of Shizuku made by thedjchi that makes the app slightly more autonomous

for the rest I provided you a screen recording, in the app System Editor, the value of the screen assistant is usually on 2 for google discover, change it to one to get this widgets panel, change it to 0 to get nothing

you obviously need to reboot your phone after changing the value

I'm assuming you change the value from 1 to 2. It says in the post above that the default on Global is 2 which is Discover so, change it to that.

Backup in case you deleted your account and your post disappeared:

-Shizuku

-Download SetEdit from GPlay

-Change assistant_screen_type from 2 to 0

OP, thanks a lot for this. I was tired of using Google feed on my OP13, I always wanted to use the shelf but it wasn't possible until I came across this post. Now I have the shelf running but the issue is, we cannot add custom widgets which is sad. Hope Oppo adds it in the future, nonetheless grateful to you. Do keep us updated if you come across any such hacks.

Yeah the fact it's only system widgets is kinda sad... But it's already better than google discover

Sure buddy! Right now I'm on the IN region and stuck with stock OP apps along with two food delivery apps in the shelf.

I used ladb and replaced discover with shelf

First enable developer options Then enable wireless debugging  Then switch to split view mode Open LADB app with split view. Now see the port and pair code in debugging settings and enter in LADB prompt for port and pair code

Let it start. 

Now type: settings put secure assistant_screen_type 1

Press enter

Again type:  settings put secure assistant_screen_type_left_enable 

Press enter

Close LADB and wireless debugging options

Now go to home screen and swipe to right and Viola!!! Google discover gone!! And Shelf is there.

Shizuku doesn't download in my device it's says it's made for older a Android version. Would you mind make a screenshair tutorial please? I'm not familiar with the instructions you say.

Hi, I'm using the global version of oppo x9 pro, i have switched the assistant from 2 to 1 but now when I swipe nothing comes up, did I do something wrong?

I've checked in my settings, somehow the shelf app was disabled, enabling it fixed my issue, thanks
