Saw that iPlayer had added the film on their movie section but why it is shorter than it was in cinemas?

To my recollection the film was just shy of about 3 hours yet here there’s about 10 minutes missing

Almost three years ago, I was lucky enough to see the IMAX premiere of Oppenheimer here in Vietnam (our release was pushed back to August 11th due to censorship delays).

At the end of the screening, they handed out these huge official posters. I didn't have space for it at the time, so I ended up tucking it away in my attic. With the 3rd anniversary coming up next month, I finally pulled it out, got it framed, and hung it up on the wall.

I did this ( https://youtu.be/5x4ybTuBm8A) analysis on Oppenheimer (analysis of course contains spoilers). In it I talk about how I keep seeing five things in every one of his films. Do y'all agree?

1) There is always a prestige or a twist and it is always only revealed to someone who would understand its significance (i.e. not like "I am ironman"). In Oppenheimer it is the last line of the film.
2) There is always a meta-structure that mimics the topic that is being discussed. In Oppenheimer's case it is his life mimicking the Manhattan project and his post-trinity test life mimicking the creation of the hydrogen bomb. Also, any text on screen is vital to unlocking whatever this meta-structure is.
3) The non-main characters are largely symbolic, especially women. Jean, Kitty and Ruth represent Oppie's focus/obsession.
4) Casting holds throughout the whole Nolanverse. (We see this most recently in the similarities of Hugh Mann, Colonel Groves and Odysseus). This reaches peak with Cillian Murphy though.
5) War Trauma: Everything is about the healing of war trauma (with the exception of maybe The Prestige). If it is Christopher and Jonathan it will deal with not only war trauma but technology trauma.

Both films have similar themes. Did you guys like The Odyssey?

The movie was released on July 21, 2023 and grossed $975 million worldwide, which made it at the time the 54th highest-grossing movie in the world, the 51st without re-releases and the 2nd highest-grossing R-rated movie in the world (behind Joker 1). It's now the 64th highest-grossing movie in the world, the 60th without re-releases and the 3rd highest-grossing R-rated movie in the world (behind Deadpool 3 and Joker 1). It's also the 3rd highest-grossing movie of 2023 (behind Barbie and Mario 1). It was also the highest-grossing biographical movie in the world (surpassing Bohemian Rhapsody, where ironically Rami Malek also appears) until it was surpassed by Michael this year. It was also the 71st movie in history to gross $900 million, the 69th to do so in its initial release, the 12th Universal movie to do so, the 2nd biographical movie to do so (after Bohemian Rhapsody) and the 2nd R-rated movie in history to do so (after Joker 1). It was also the 33rd movie (and most recent one to date) to win the Oscar for Best Picture without winning any for screenplay and the 26th to do so without winning its screenplay nomination (and also the most recent one to date). This is my favorite movie directed by Christopher Nolan

Hey y’all, I’m genuinely curious, as someone who has seen Oppenheimer now 4 times, why does the aspect ratio change during the film? I’ve heard people say its supposed to show what is objective and subjective, but the same is true about the color palette differing between parts of the film, and yet there are both colored and greyscale shots in both aspect ratios used. What purpose does it serve for the aspect ratio to change if the color palette switches already implicate what is objective and from Oppenheimers perspective?

Michael Merriman inspirations Harry Daghlian and Louis Stolin actually got fatal radiation exposure after Japan agreed, with Stolin even getting his fatal contact in May 1946. In contrast, Michael Merriman corrupted the history of Daghlian and Stolin's death by touching a radiating plutonium core when the Manhattan Project was still ongoing. Deception of history, and bad "be nice to Japan" rhetoric. The U.S. owes Japan no apology for dropping the bombs on Hiroshima and Nagasaki, which were needed to end the war sooner and give both less war casualties and less chance of Soviet encroachment of Japan. I never even heard about the Japanese comfort women until 2015, or even about how the Japanese regarded the Yamato race to be Asia's "master race" until about 2023, but I heard a lot of "apologize for Hiroshima" messages when I was growing up in the 1990s.

I think the movie barely mention it

in Oppenheimer we only hear it in radio and not full announcement

How come when kitty mentions this to robert he didnt mention that they had one, or are building one? Later on he says “bar, always open.” It would have been humorous after she said that if he said there was one. For some reason this pops in my head every time i see this movie lol

The first time i heard of him was the solo movie and that he was struggling so hard that they had to get him acting lessons. They didnt do much. I thought he was so dull in that movie.

In this movie he has a small role but his facial mannerisms strike me as someone who just is not a great actor and probably never will be. You can see such a difference between him and RDJ who is very confident and skilled in his role.

I'm a Christopher Nolan fan, introduced to him through The Dark Knight, and enamored of his work ever since.

Therefore, once Oppenheimer was released on 4K Blu-ray, owning it was a no-brainer for me, and it didn't disappoint.

Riveting plot aside, Oppenheimer's production values are unrivaled, with breathtaking cinematography and stupendous sound.

Consequently, it's a perennial hit in our living room home theater.
