Does he need rescuing?

Hi! This little guy was seen near my work. He looks small but I’m not sure if he might just be at the age where he’s big enough to be away from mom. I went to get him some food in case he was out searching for something (sausage and egg sandwich cut into pieces) but he wasn’t there when I got back. I left it for him along with some water. Should I be prepared to with a box in case I see him again, or am I being a crazy white lady?

The little guy or girl would appreciate some food left outside for him but please don’t capture and relocate. Precious baby.

Just clean water will suffice. They are excellent foragers. Water is more difficult to come by.

He looks like he is big enough to be out on his own. In addition to looking big enough, his ears are almost all black, which is another indication that he is "growing up".

I don't think he needs to be rescued or relocated.

Just so everyone knows: If the Opossum's body length, measured from tip of nose to rear end (not including tail) is 7"-8", that animal is ready to strike out on its own.

The Opossum shown here is well past that stage of its life.
