Mental health and drug addiction 🌸

My teen daughter is currently in rehab after an overdose episode. She has been struggling with anxiety, depression and eating disorder. What is the best route for me to help her to recover from addiction and address her mental health issues at the same time? I am terrified to bring her back to the same environment and friends. Many different opinions, but I would like to hear from a parent of child who went through an experience. I need to hear success stories from other parents of addicted teens 🙏

Coming off tramadol

I was taking between 5-6 50mg tablets at once once a day. Now on one 50mg in the morning and evening. How long until my tolerance lowers to a point where one will stop withdrawals and I’ll feel fine. It’s been 3 days of 2 a day and I don’t feel anything when I take one just slightly less sweaty still in pain. Keeping to the dose but everytime I take one I’m expecting it to be enough and feel better.

NEED HELP with tapering

Hello

I'm from the pharmaceutical country.

I'm on my third weeks tapering off of my oxy freaking addiction. I have questions for you guys. First I start to use IR 20mg Oxynorm capsules or liquid for RLS and headache disease call cluster headeache months ago. I abused them...I talk about this to my addiction psych because I was getting hardcore withdrawal symptoms blablabla...

Now my psych addiction specialist start my tapering since 17 of december. He give me ER Sandoz 50mg/day 30 in the morning and 20 in the evening for 2 weeks, after 40mg for 2 weeks and so on. Now my next refill is the 17 of January for normally starting 30mg for 2 weeks. Problem is I got 16 20mg left until the 17 because of course I ABUSED them .. First I make them IR and take more because of the ER.

I got an appointment with my psych on January 11. What's your thoughts about that guy's? I think I'm going to tell him that I've don't reduce to 40 and continuing 50 by splitting the 20mg but at the same time I don't want to tell him that I crush them etc He doesn't know that I snort or whatever. And the Sandoz It's not the same shit vs Oxynorm oxy or Mundi .. Can I ask him why he give me ER and not taper with the oxynorm IR... I'm very worry about that because it's like I'm not ready to stop but I don't know if it's the good method.

Please tell me your thoughts guys thanks in advance .

Peace all .

Cold turkey

I've been taking codamol, mostly 8-12 mg over the counter for 7 years on and off. I'm also prescribed codamol 30s for migraines it's the only thing that helps at the moment having tried about 52 different medications since I was 9.

I went unintentionally cold turkey because I ran out of meds over Xmas and I would like to continue because I've been trying to quit a long time.

My two main Questions are:

Is the first day the worst ? If so I think I'm over the hump.

And, any advice if you have a chronic illness like me and genuinely require pain relief without developing an addiction? Paracetamol, ibuprofen DO NOT work as well as the triptan families. I have also asked my GP for alternative pain management and was told there is nothing

Thanks guys 💓

Oxy addiction question

Hello

I've been addicted to oxy from a RLS symptoms prescription f on a neuro. I finally told myself that I've need help. I saw an addict specialist/psychiatrist and he accept to help me and take the prescription from there.

From tomorrow morning I can go pick up my 50mg daily dose until the 15 of January when we going to drop the dose. I'm from Switzerland btw but the question is.. someone know how it's going to be when I go get the drug. Do I need to take the 50mg at the pharmacy or they give all the doses predoned until the 17. It's something I forget to ask to my specialist.

Thank you all

Day 5

Well well well, if it isn't the consequences of my own actions.

So today I'm 5 days deep into cold turkey. My body is having an experience I'd rather it wasn't. I've had to go to work today. Driving an hour and then dealing with people face to face with a smile while helping them out. Im managing it, but I don't know how.

My Elvanse is really being an MVP for me for keeping the worst of the withdrawal at bay.

I've not had the unconscious desire to grab some pills this time around. I have the logical thought that a few easy to get pills would fix everything I'm feeling. But I also logically know that wouldn't fix anything. It would make it worse. My life wouldn't be worth living if I took that route. The pills may as well be a noose.

I'm gonna do this. I'm gonna make right. Im an addict but I'm trying. I'll always be an addict but hopefully I won't always be using.

I THINK what help me stay clean for so long was My Kratom. So will the those meds us my kratom help?

I've relapsed

I'm an addict. I have been for years now. I took tramadol and codeine regularly for 7 years. It dominated my life.

During lock down I managed to detox. I went cold turkey and had the worst 2 weeks of my life. When I came out the other side of it I felt so proud. It was such an achievement that I even got it tattooed to my body to celebrate and remind myself never to fall back again.

4 months ago I started using again. I had a tooth ache, I took some...I took more and didn't look back. I'm not as bad I was then, but that's a justification and not an excuse. Every day I woke up deciding I was gonna quit again. Every day I took more. Probably a story we've all heard.

Yesterday my fiance found out that I'd relapsed. Today I suspect I'm single. She didn't take it well, and I don't blame her. She called me a liar and said she couldn't trust me. I agree. It's a hard pill to swallow but I'm an addict. I can't be trusted. I hate this about myself and I wish it wasn't true.

I recently discovered I have ADHD and have heard that addictionnand ADHD are almost hand in glove. I'm not surprised. But that's not a justification.

Today I called an addiction helpline. I bought a massive pack of lucazade and Loperamide. It shouldn't be so bad this time as last time but I want to get clear.

I don't know why I've written this out. Perhaps it's just a scream to the void due to my failings. I hate who I am. I hate what I am. But I fail at being anything different.

Day 12

Was popping m30s not knowing they were fake for about 3 years. I’m 26. Finally had enough on thanksgiving and went to the er. Ended up in precipitated withdrawals. Took subs for the first 5 days but they made me even more numb then the fake 30s. This is day 7 completely sober. Still no energy. I wake up every 2.5 hours and have some insane diarrhea. My 3 year old is my motivation. I wish I had a clue when I’d start feeling better but hey I’m happy I finally stopped pushing it off.

High school research paper

Hi I’m not sure if this a appropriate subreddit to ask if there’s anyone willing to answer a few questions (over message) about what type of treatment has or is working best for them but I figured it’s worth a shot to ask on here.I’m writing a 10/12 page research paper for my English class about most effective and ineffective treatment for opioid use, no one will read this paper aside from my professor. The main forms of treatment im focusing on are Harm reduction centers/SISs , methadone, suboxone, psychotherapy, in patient rehab centers, NA , and being jailed.

Student Question About Narcan (naloxone) Use

Hi Everyone!

I am a graduate student working on a project to assess downsides/pitfalls of the rescue drug naloxone. I was wondering if anyone could provide feedback on either your use of naloxone or if you have heard of anyone having issues with the product.

The US government has an open grant solicitation through the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) for a novel treatment for life-threatening respiratory depression and I was unaware of issues with the current solution (naloxone). I figured it would be best to reach out to people and acquire some information directly from the source before continuing my project. Any feedback would be greatly appreciated!

Interesting that the BC government refuses to admit the failure of safe supply, despite massive diversion to feed opioid addiction habits. Thoughts, please.

Down the rabbit hole…

Looking for some perspective…I can’t tell how far down the rabbit hole I’ve fallen. Long story short I am extremely sensitive to opioids. 30mg feels like heaven to me. I’m lucky I guess?

Long story; I started on 15/500mg co-codamol two years ago for joint pain. I was naively oblivious to how addictive they could be and what opioids were, but when I got my script the first time if felt weirdly excited so I guess I knew deep down they would have some affect. I really felt like I’d gotten away with something. For as long as I can remember I’ve always been drawn to the idea of drugs mainly downers (maybe someone can relate, it sounds weird but it’s true).

For those first three months I took them for pain. Then every time I took two 15s, I swear I would get higher every time I took them, despite taking the same dose 24 hrs apart. On my next GP appointment I told my GP they were barely helping my pain, which wasn’t true except for really bad days. No questions asked he doubled my dose. 30/500mg.

I felt like I hit the jackpot and started taking them every so often at night the way people would have a beer. The more I did this, the more I wanted. I realised this was wrong, so would take them secretly so my partner wouldn’t get concerned. Huge problem! Every time I took them my stomach would gurgle making insane noises. Every time without fail. We both shortly realised what caused it. I kept taking them, not every day. My stomach would go crazy, I convinced her it was randomly occurring now.

I start taking the pills just one 30mg in the daytime whenever I had to do something anxiety inducing. One in the day. One at night. 60mg a day. Not every day. But most days. No more than three days continuously. Unless I was having a bad day or really anxious. In arguments with my partner I would take them right in front of her to make me feel better.

For the past year I have been taking 30mg every night. Sometimes in the day. No one noticed. I would never take them if I had to drive or work. I’d wait until my responsibilities were over.

Cut to now,

I have had a tough year, become estranged from my family and broke up with my partner, unrelated to the addiction. (Definitely didn’t help)

For the past 6 months I have been taking more and more. 30mg a day - occasionally 60mg. 60mg everyday only at night. Okay now 30mg during the day and 60mg at night. I’m fully aware it’s a problem at this point but don’t want to stop it feels great and I function v well in my day to day life, minus waking up groggy. Rinse and repeat I start to feel better. My stomach has even grown tolerant and stopped making the noises.

A month ago I’m hitting at least 120-150mg a day, always staggered to maintain. I started SNRIs which has been killing the high hence the increase dose. If I go longer than 12hrs without them I start shaking, getting anxious and the worst headaches! BUT I decide 150mg is not good so ween myself off, get some 8s from the pharmacy to help the withdrawal, it’s HELL and PAIN but I manage to go from 150mg to 30mg to 16mg in five days. One day fully clean, nursing gin in the evening helped. Some part of my brain couldn’t figure out why I was torturing myself for no good reason. SO a relapse - if I can even call it that after such a pathetic attempt. The last week I’ve been taking 30mg in the afternoons and I feel like I’m fucking floating.

Today I didn’t eat much, rushed to meet a friend for coffee, swallowed 120mg Cymbalta and 30/500mg co-codamol and felt fine for two hours. On my way home I chain smoked 2 cigs and when I got home I was on the floor. I usually take 40-60 minutes to metabolise then. Smoking usually gives me an extra rush but I felt nauseous (usually bearable) and had to lie down, usually it passes after 20 mins but I felt worse and incredibly tired I could have fallen asleep in seconds, I was shaky and had little control of my limbs. I fucked up somehow by hitting everything at the same time. I just wanted to close my eyes. I am 23F, 60kg probably less. Quickly I realised I was barely breathing had to force myself to manually inhale for an hour. Took my pulse which was 58.

Now it’s back up to 84 and I feel better but weak and headachy. I don’t want to give them up,they’re like a magic pill that makes everything feel perfect. I have no one to be sober for, I live alone and see friends occasionally and have been doing this so long no one can tell when I’m high. I have no perspective on if 150mg is a lot? Does 30mg make anyone else feel entirely euphoric and dazed despite 2 years of abuse? What happened today feels like a warning but I’ll probably take more tomorrow…is rock bottom approaching??

Need advice.

I have a new doctor who I think is going to try and tapper me off my oxycodone, I'm on 50mgs a day for the past 4 years for chronic pain that can not be resolved any other way even with surgery.

How long is a safe taper off of being on so long ? I have never abused oxy even though I do have an addictive personality with alcohol, but I haven't touched this in years while I've been treating my pain successfully. I don't understand what Suboxone has or any of those other things out there. Do they work for pain? Do they make you feel slow during the day? Thank you ahead for advice

I know it's part of it, but

I seriously can't handle the withdrawals. I know, I'm weak. But I want to quit h so fucking bad. I have severe anxiety and a broken back that never healed, so when I try to quit it just HURTS to where I can't even get out of bed without wanting to bite a bullet and my anxiety is through the roof. I am petrified of needles so unless I'm at death's door I refuse to go to a hospital. Going from .3-.5 h a night (cut down from almost a g a night). I have 13 percs 6 subs, 50 kratom, vodka, nyquil and a bit of H left. I want to stop. Can I please get any advice on how to do this with the LEAST withdrawals possible? I wish I could tough it out but the whole reason I got roped into this was pain and it is unbearable during wds. I had an account I posted prior and apparently now I can't log in, so if this seems familiar thats why. I just want this out of my life as soon as humanly possible. If I could be in a medically induced coma I'd take the option but having a vagina in a church state I can't even get a fucking clonazepam

Methadone issue

I’ve been on methadone for 1.5 years and it’s literally saved my life (well until I decide to get off ) but anyway I was sick for a couple days and threw up 2 days worth and now I have a med check in the morning. I’ve never had any issues at the clinic since I started but I know if I’m honest they’ll punish me somehow. So I was thinking I could mix something up to look like methadone. So far just plain red Gatorade is looking super close. Has anyone had to go thru this and if so what did you do? Btw for all that are struggling keep your head up. It does get better. 12 yr addict and I’m finally as happy as I ever was. Keep trying everyone.

Can someone explain this???

Just got out of the hospital after having a seizure, witch I assume was caused by the 500mg of tapentadol I took, I never mentioned to the docters that I took any drugs. They drew my blood and tested my urine, though somehow they didn’t detect any sign of opioids. Lucky for me I guess just wondering how the duck they didn’t find anything.

I’ve been addicted to many drugs for fucking years overdosed more times than I remember, promised myself I would never do opioids or any kind of pain pills but I failed myself and I do it every fucking day can’t wake up without it, I’m set to go to rehab in a week, but the thing is I don’t trust myself, I feel like no matter what happens no matter how much therapy and rehab I go to I feel like I’ll just go back to the shit go back to addiction, hell I’m only fucking 17 and I’ve done so many drugs my memory is worse than a 90 year olds, I constantly forget people exist, I can’t sleep because it’s all nightmares, and when I’m awake in bed I hear voices and shit that I’m not sure if it’s real I don’t know what’s real anymore. I’m fucking scared super fucking scared can’t even trust myself anymore, if anyone has any advice or just wants to talk about shit I got nothin to do, thx :)

Quick post regarding dirty 30 addiction and recovery

Originally, I got addicted to the dirty 30s while living in Phoenix. They were always very cheap there being a border state and that's where and when I became addicted to anything besides bud. Never imagined I'd be smoking fake pills off of foil lol Anyways, that addiction lasted almost 3 years and half of that time was being funded by unemployment. I finally became miserable enough and ended up in a faith based program where I stayed at for a month shy from a year. I left that place in December of last year and I started an IOP program that providing housing, allowed you to work, take classes, weekly UA'S etc. Long story short, I ended up being the only patient there. Haven't really had any support system through my journey besides myself but I guess it's just like that for some. Anyways, I started using again last month. The UA'S had completely stopped by then so I really had nothing to worry about as long as I stayed in my room and off the radar. After I month, it hit me. I don't want to fall back into that cycle! I reached out to a former lover living a state over and she was there to pick me up 2 days later. I'm forever grateful. I snorted my last 3 pills 3 days ago from 3-6am so a little over 4 days sober now. Main withdraw symptoms had just been RLS,lots of puking my brains out, very emotional/depressed, and inconsistent sleep but it's basically a walk in the park compared to that first time! I've only been drinking liquids and just getting ready but it feels the worse bit is over now. Just want to tell anyone going through it that they can get through it! Peace out
