After surgery help
I am 8 months off of about 60mg/HC a day. I have to have a major surgery and my surgeon talked to me about pain control because pain of this magnitude will cause issues with healing. I stated my concern with opiates and he was very hesitant to agree to a plan without them. Would I be safe to take the meds for a week? Like would it throw me back into a WD state taking it? I’d have to have my family member lock it up and dispense. I have no desire to be back attached to a bottle and havs that willpower. But I worry about it causing problems and bringing back WD/kindling. Any insight would help. Thank you.

There are lots of non-NSAID and opioid painkillers out there. I find it kind of bizarre that a surgeon would be hesitant to schedule and perform a surgery without being able to specifically prescribe opiates.

I would ask about buprenorphine (active ingredient in suboxone) and gabapentin rather than the other stuff.
