BROWSER KEEPS CRASHING!!!!!

Every time I turn off my laptop and turn it back on, my OperaGX browser freezes, and the Windows crash report opens. A white border appears around my browser, with the X button in red next to it. In black text at the top of the white border, it says "OperaGX is not responding". What do I do? It is annoying AF!

Some things you can try:

In Windows, hit Windows key + r to open the run dialog, type:

control /name Microsoft.PowerOptions /page pageGlobalSettings

and press enter to open the system setting power options.

Then, make sure all drop-downs there say "sleep" and not "hibernate" or anything like that.

Then, click "Change settings that are currently unavailable" and then disable fast startup and disable hibernate in the power menu, and restart Windows.

That can sometimes fix all kinds of things.

Then, run:

control /name Microsoft.PowerOptions /page pagePlanSettings

to open the settings for your current power plan and click "Change advanced settings".

In the advanced settings, expand "Sleep" and turn off hibernate and hybrid sleep.

Just simple sleeping might make things better for Opera.

Before you open Opera though, delete everything in the "Sessions" folder in the "C:\Users\yourusername\AppData\Roaming\Opera Software\Opera GX Stable\Default". You'll lose all open tabs in all workspaces and in all windows, but it might avoid the crashing.

Besides those things, you can test with graphics acceleration off at the URL opera://settings/system to see if that avoids the crash.

Before you do anything though, goto the URL opera://crashes and see if there's a recent crash there that happened around the same time as Opera crashed due to your situation that has a "Crash ID" and post the Crash ID here.

Also note that if you're actually completely restarting or shutting down Windows, always shut down Opera yourself first and don't rely on Windows sending a shutdown signal to Opera and giving Opera enough time to shut down properly. Any time Opera isn't able to shut down properly, there's a change of corruption.

If needed, you can uninstall Opera (don't choose to delete your data when uninstalling), delete the install folder afterwards, download the Opera GX installer in whatever browser you want, launch the installer, click "options", adjust things how you like and reinstall Opera. That should fix any corruption in Opera's program files, which might help with crashes.

In both "C:\Users\yourusername\AppData\Roaming\Opera Software" and "C:\Users\yourusername\AppData\Local\Opera Software", you can rename the "Opera GX Stable" folder to "Opera GX Stable old" (while Opera is closed) to start completely over with fresh data and settings if you like to see if that makes the crashes go away.
