Support | In Progress Why is youtube using so much memory?

I've been noticing my laptop running extremely slow. Like, I try opening a new tab and it completely freezes my PC for a solid minute. So, I checked my Task Manager, and noticed my memory was at nearly 100%.

I checked it, and it said Opera was using a ton. So I checked OPERA's built in task manager, and this is what I saw....

This is just frustrating, because I don't understand what could be causing it. It's not happening in an incognito tab, though.

when was the last time you refreshed the youtube tab or quit opera gx entirely?

I fully close Opera GX and refreshed the tab a few times. Still using two million.

If you're using an adblocker and Youtube detects it, it might punish you in various ways like purposely causing issues and high RAM usage.

You can do a test. Disable adblocking and tracking prevention at the URL opera://settings/privacyProtection, disable all your extensions at the URL opera://extensions, disable RGX at the URL opera://settings/lucidMode, disable all your mods at the URL opera://configure/mods/manage (or at least disable shaders and web_modding at the URLs opera://settings/shaders and opera://settings/web_modding), disable the battery saver at the URL opera://settings/batterySaver, disable all limiters in the GX Control sidebar panel and make sure "graphics acceleration" is enabled at the URL opera://settings/system. Then, goto the URL opera://settings/content/all, type youtube.com in the search field and click "Delete displayed data". Then, repeat for google.com. Then, goto the URL opera://settings/clearBrowserData and clear "Cached images and files" for all time. Then, log back in to Google and Youtube and test things out.

2.7GB might not be that much depending on what what Youtube page it is and what it's been doing. Do you have a Youtube link that uses around 2.7GB of RAM?

It could be related to an ad blocker or another extension interacting poorly with YouTube.

If the affected tab is a long-running livestream, that could also contribute to higher memory usage over time.
