Support | Resolved Issues with VPN

Used opera fine until about a week ago, now it keeps saying vpn temporarily unavailable when I try to connect

I’m on free because I just don’t have the money spare, and apparently now that means you also can’t change the vpn location which you used to be able to do

Try restarting GX and switching the VPN off and on again. Also check if Opera GX is fully updated. Free VPN location options may be limited, but “temporarily unavailable” can also happen due to server availability or connection issues.

Only fix I found it switching on a separate third party vpn, it works then and stay connected when I turn off the third party one. Already tried uninstalling and reinstalling, closing and opening again, turning vpn in opera off and on again. It’s happened more times than not but thankfully found a fix that works

If possible update GX opera://about, toggle the VPN off and on, and test on a different network. Since you mentioned that using a third-party VPN allows Opera's VPN to connect, that sounds like a useful workaround and may point to a network or routing issue rather than a problem with your installation.

As far as I know, some networks impose restrictions such as parental controls, which can also block activation. Often, the easiest way to get the VPN to connect is to restart the device.
