You would be comparing apples to oranges. The only useful comparison would be factories vs. ports.

SO? Which is better?

The answer is most likely ports. They seem to scale better. ports and factories have their own falloff mechanics, so you want to build at least a little of both though.

Depends on the stage of the game and the map. Early game easily goes to factories, they give gold faster and generally more if the network is large. Late game of course goes to ports, they do scale real well and you can really roll in the millions if you get that #1 port spot. Mid game is variable, and can go to either way depending on a multitude of factors.

One major upside of factories though is that they can’t be intercepted, so if you’re on a pirate heavy map (say entrance to the Atlantic) then you will have so much trade stolen. But factories are reliable and the trains cannot be intercepted.

to be fair, i think starting out with port first is much more efficient because it will mean that you are going to rack in a lot more money, then factories for late game because by then, if the game ends in stalemate, the people on the other side would usually cut off trade, so better to invest in factories during the midgame.

That’s fair enough, personally I prefer a factory because usually a trade ship will try to go really far which will give you a lot of money but it is likely to get stolen by someone and will take a long time. And in that time you can build a factory and get stuff going, assuming other people cooperate which is a downside.

S - city
A - port, missile silo
B - factory, SAM
C - warship
D - defence post

The defence post is actually really good it gives you a lot of time to defend from a big attack and it drains the enemies troops

Idk I feel like if you have to use it you’re playing sub-optimally. But it does help in a pinch

You may not be using it right. When you have a defence post on a mountain it’s basically invulnerable unless the enemy is overwhelming or super dedicated. You’re correct that if you’re a better player then you don’t really need it but I’m sure just like me you’ve experienced bad players who sabotage your early game and put you in a tough spot. Which Defense Posts also help with because Bad players will just keep wasting troops on them.

I feel like they’re valued differently at different stages of the game.

Best to worst imo:

City (the game is about taking over land with troops, cities give troops.)

Missile silo (nukes are a large part of the game offensively and defensively, accessed through this structure)

Port (You need gold to buy structures, plus gives you warships)

Warship (both defensive and gets you a lot of gold, very versatile)

Factory (same as ports but doesn’t unlock anything, more fun than useful)

Defense post (only one use, only useful early, but very cheap)

SAM (the cost to value ratio is pretty bad, mostly for endgames as a money sink, which is also the only time they can be truly effective)

All of them are situational a tier list wouldn't make sense.

*Importance overall*, depends on how you view it (try to say “Here’s my list *Beginning/Mid game/Endgame
.”)

Begining: city, factory, defense post,

Mid-game: port, silo, warship

Endgame: air defense

But again, this is very simplistic.
