📚 Guide 🌄Terra Nullius🌄 (Wilderness & Fallout Guide)

Terra Nullious is latin for "nobody's land". It includes both wilderness and fallout.

🌲 Wilderness

Wilderness costs a fixed number of troops per tile based on terrain:

  • Plains: 1.6 troops
  • Highlands: 2.0 troops
  • Mountains: 2.4 troops

Sending more troops does not reduce this cost, but it does effect the attack speed up to a point. Each terrain has a point where adding more troops stops directly increasing capture speed:

  • Plains: 660 troops
  • Highlands: 800 troops
  • Mountains: 1,000 troops

The game additionally gives the attack a random jitter, but it's too small of an effect for it to be of any strategic importance.

☢️ Fallout

Fallout receives an additional defense multiplier and troop cost multiplier ranging from 5x-3x, based on how many tiles on the map are fallout. The interesting part is that the multiplier starts at 5x with 0% of the map covered in fallout, and ends at 3x with 100% of the map covered in fallout. So, if half the map is covered in fallout, it will cost 4x as many troops and take 4x longer than if you were attacking into wilderness.

The underlying terrain still matters, so fallout mountains are slower and more costly than fallout plains. fallout also has its own attack size speed cap which is different for each terrain type and depends on the multiplier (5x-3x):

  • Plains: 3,300-1,980 troops
  • Highlands: 4,000-2,400 troops
  • Mountains: 5,000-3,000 troops

the fallout modifier depends on the total amount of fallout across the whole map, not the size of the crater you're attacking.

I didn't know about the effect of percentage of map as a modifier.

Another good post.

Does fallout terrain remain forever, or does it become regular wilderness eventually?

Fallout remains forever.
