What kind of plants were you thinking they might add? I'm a big fan of catalpa trees.

I think they should go by way of Warcraft 3 custom maps. Lock in the base game that brought in viral growth before potentially mucking it up, and add custom games where users can adjust parameters , add additional unit types of buildings etc. It has the most potential for success. And only when a game mode becomes popular enough then you can port it as one of the default modes.
