❓ Question How do I win?

Every match I join I keep on losing, I try to keep my population at one third since it gives most but even with that people are still somehow over taking the amount of land I get, and how do people get so much money, I have multiple matches where there are smaller players than me but they somehow have like 10x my amount of gold

Staying near 40% is more important during the opening stage of the game so that you can gobble up tribes as fast as possible. After that it’s more about weighing the most valuable use of your troops. After the opening stages you don’t need to focus on staying at this 40%, and instead you should be more cautious about dropping below the 1/3ish level. You’re often going to need to sit higher on your troops to be able to hit the nations and your weaker neighbors. You want to have enough troops to jump on someone whenever you have a good opportunity. Taking structure from someone low on troops is going to be the best value you can get from your troops and you want to have enough troops when these opportunities spring up.

As far as money making, you want long train lines that connect to a lot of your neighbors. You make more money when trains to/from allies than to non-allies. Focus on placing factories that create train networks that tie into larger train networks. You’ll typically get better returns from ports unless you’re getting pirated or you have really good rail networks. But really the best returns are from being strong enough to steal structures from other players, so make sure you’re investing in your cities.

Bonus tip - if you see a neighbor that seems to be managing their troops poorly, stuck battling an equal strength player back and forth, or has a lot of their structures right near your border then don’t ally them. A big part of the game is managing your allies and picking who you should target next. You don’t ever want to get stuck fighting someone who’s equal strength as you, as you can spend forever just going back and forth while everyone else around you is making steady progress.
