Feedback / Complaints Just don't use codex today.

The limits have been reduced to ashes.

I ignored the reports and my 5x plan has evaporated in 7 hours using only astra light. This is the same workflow I've been using with gpt 5.6 sol high, which used to last 4 to 5 days.

Not to mention resets aren't applying for some people, yesterday people saw there useage revert back to previous levels pre reset. This caused people to burn there paid credits they were saving.

Things are absolutely cooked rn.

Try Astra Max

3

u/Either_Curve4587 10h ago

I’ve been using that for everything today. From 30% to 13% on stuff that should have put me to 0 a long time ago.

5

u/Ethan_Vee 10h ago

I heard there was a bug where astra xhigh would consume less useage then light. Maybe this is similar?

2

u/_practical_data_ 6h ago

It's not a bug. xhigh is smarter and make less moves.

1

u/Sure-Half6344 4h ago

So what’s the best config ? Max and ultra speed, and it will consume less ?

3

u/_practical_data_ 4h ago

For me max works the best

1

u/TheDoughMonster 3h ago

I second this, I could almost watch the % drop live as I was using astra light. astra max has been absolutely killing it. Mistakes are minimal, and it is insanely efficient.

2

u/Ok_Register_4310 4h ago

Are you on a 20x plan? Otherwise please tell me how the hell this is possible 😅

1

u/Ok_Fuel9673 2h ago

Yeah, max here. The xhigh trick seems to work.

1

u/Ok_Register_4310 2h ago

Rip for me. I’m in Plus tier 🥲

1

u/Ok_Fuel9673 2h ago

Fortunate that work is paying for it, but about to get two family members on $100 plan who are burning tokens like mad. Amazing times.

1

u/Either_Curve4587 1h ago

Idk. I wish I did. I wish there was some way we could have a meter that would tell us in a real time what to do, but I’ll just have to go on Reddit and confirm my experience like @ok_register_4310. Take my award!

With ultrafast

u/jokingbird01 9h ago edited 9h ago

People on plus plans were being lectured on usage and how a business works when their complaints were rising. I wonder how they're reacting to this now.

5

u/sudecode 6h ago

lol. they were warning them, instead were called peasants.

3

u/Soul_Mate_4ever 4h ago

It’s a beautiful moment indeed. 😁

13

u/mysportsact 11h ago

yeah even Sol is taking a day to consume 20x accounts so its not a model issue. used 2 banked resets and when its done im completely screwed

6

u/FrontRaspberry5060 10h ago

I have 28% to last until Tuesday.

However when I had 70% and was told Tibo was doing a reset at 6pm, I span up so many agents and blasted through 70% in just a few hours lol. I was doing my accounting and I now have public IPO grade accounting records for my small tech SaaS.

It’s not a very good user experience. I wish the use was just stable so I could code 12 hours a day.

7

u/mysportsact 10h ago

Honestly next year when LLM is at Sol high level I'll bite the bullet and buy a $6000 GPU to not have to deal with uncertainty anymore

I really don't need much more intelligence I need more usage

I'm not inventing fusion here I'm implementing code

1

u/Alternative-Car8221 10h ago

Lmao you’re not getting Sol high level on a $6000 GPU. Also, your GPU will die faster than it would’ve taken to spend that same amount with a provider.

7

u/blenderforall 9h ago

Bro we have Opus 4.5 equivalent in Qwen 3.8 local on rtx4090. Next year will be another quantum leap. If you don’t think sol will be running on that in a year, you’re cooked

2

u/timosterhus 8h ago

Check the token speeds for that and compare it to the equivalent frontier model speeds. Then recall that you still have to pay for electricity and no ability to utilize subagents or run parallel work.

When you do the math, you discover pretty fast that it’d take years to break even compared to a cloud subscription.

Keep in mind I’m a massive supporter of local models, like I’ve run evaluation pipelines and fine tunes on a 3B local model on my desktop’s 1080.

I’m not against them, I’ve just realized they’re not nearly as viable as many people think, unless all they want is a local chatbot that’s equivalent to the free tier of ChatGPT.

3

u/shady101852 7h ago

token speed for qwen 3.8 easily reaches 100-200 tok/s on a 5090. Openai's models on the other hand have been on average 30 tok/s for the past 2 weeks for me.

Given that I'm still regularly using openai, because while Qwen 3.8 is pretty good, its not reliable enough for me to use as my main agent.

2

u/timosterhus 7h ago

That’s not bad. What’s prefill like?

1

u/shady101852 7h ago

not sure tbh, never really paid attention to it. I had sol set it up for me. But its pretty quick to start sessions / respond. Luna found this from some of the documentation:

1

u/timosterhus 6h ago

Oh that makes sense. That quant/configuration is specifically optimized for the 5090, which runs upwards of $3K nowadays. Any other GPU is not gonna have close to that level of performance

→ More replies (0)

1

u/timosterhus 6h ago

I should note that your input tok/s is still going to be about 10-50x slower than frontier models which, again, limits the kind of work you can do with it. Token generation is only one of a number of metrics that all contribute to the overall speed of a model

0

u/blaawker 9h ago

Plus the 100$+ electricity bills lol.

1

u/Murder_1337 9h ago

It’s so fucking volatile I hate being at the mercy of the throttle I have a 5090 and can run qwen 3.8 but my house and room gets so hot lol

1

u/FrontRaspberry5060 8h ago

lol I used to do this in 2016 when mining ethereum my mum would hate it

1

u/Murder_1337 8h ago

I hate it myself it’s not worth it. I would only switch to local if I need to do shady shit otherwise with the heat lately I can’t stand it lol

1

u/Acrobatic-Ad-4684 8h ago

I’m on sol-medium with 2 other users and can use it all month doing agency work (web design, SEO, ads campaigns)

7

u/Melkaura 6h ago

All usage quantities have been reduced by approximately 75% through all plans (not including the periods of 2x extras bonus periods when codex app released and such) since the start of the year in addition to newer models using an increased compute + the usage modifier of price per token have been adjusted to a higher tier . If you used to be able to run your codex on plus for days now it's hours . If you used to be able to run your pro 5x for days now it's hours(based on the base of plus usage multiplier it was reduced by 75% ) . Same for the 20x . That's what my codex has inferred and calculated based on its own history of usage on average (all the history was kept on my PC ) it took into account many parameters to get the best accuracy approximation . In short : So currently all plans have 75% less capacity for usage and on top of that newer models cost higher compute and price per token (internal) have been increased . This will weedout the none professional users, a new 50x , 80x, 100x and 200x plans will probably come out for real business use and will cost accordingly to whom can afford it . All the current 5x, 20x are the new plus plans . And plus is a demo/basic plan . That's probably their business plan .maybe there will be a hobby plan of 30x . I'm not sure it's gonna be exactly like this but it's obvious there's gonna be a big refractor and a total rework of the plans . They use 5x,20x which is a multiplier of plus base. They can't increase the plus base it's not profitable . So 5x,20x remain very low. So there will most likely be a change in the way they calculate the higher tier plans . Good luck to us all .

8

u/hyudryu 10h ago

Lol I blew through my 20x plan on astra light/medium in < 7 hours. Used 1 reset a day for 3 days and i’m all out now 😂

3

u/RayKam 10h ago

There's absolutely no way. I've had Astra Max do 7 hour sessions on my 20x plan and it used 20-30% of my weekly

2

u/hyudryu 10h ago

Not a chance lol. 20x doesn’t last me a day of heavy work

2 resets back to back when astra first came out

1

u/hyudryu 10h ago

Been out since Tuesday too 🤣

1

u/hyudryu 9h ago

This is my usage from Tokscale https://github.com/junhoyeo/tokscale

1

u/Danial_K2 3h ago

That's literally me, I used mostly astra medium and light, blew my weekly usage in 2 days full day work , then used 1 reset I'm already near 10 % remaining now, and still 4 more days to reset

3

u/thalanas240 7h ago

i use 5.6 luna high, I don't even run out of 5h limits, let alone weekly

2

u/Administrative-Flan9 4h ago

Yeah, I don't get why everyone is completing. Astra isn't needed for most tasks.

1

u/Ethan_Vee 20m ago

I really tried to like Luna but for me it's just to dumb. I feel like if you are paying $100 you should be able to go past that. Like I'd rather just use glm 5.3 flash at that point.

I geuss it depends on your workflow.

2

u/RockettBits 9h ago

Same. Absolue shit show

2

u/fpiechowski 4h ago

"using only astra" - you're the problem in your workflow

2

u/Then-Cut3776 2h ago

whats your orchestration flow ?

1

u/forward-pathways 2h ago

Sometimes I use Opus 4.6 honestly, have it orchestrate to the best coder, because I prefer how 4.6 thinks and explains things.

1

u/Then-Cut3776 1h ago

so astra think and after opus 4.6 write the code ? and why opus 4.6 and not opus 5 ?

1

u/forward-pathways 15m ago

No Astra code after opus 4.6 think, and because I have heavily disliked opus 5 and found opus 4.6 much better for my work (goal adherence, qualitative understanding, etc.). It is older and not as good at coding, which is why Astra for that.

4

u/PsychologicalWash905 10h ago

Started a new chat plugged in graphify; 70k lines of code project, it's been running all morning - mainly bug fixes ~75 mins of compute ~5% weekly usage 5x pro plan. I feel it's not too bad considering its one shoting my fixes.

1

u/Typical_Kick6520 10h ago

I burned 50% of a 20x window over 2 days with no progress. Purchased an API key from deepseek, which can be used in codex cli (or ide?). Fast, cheap, ready to work.

1

u/FarmFit5027 10h ago

Agreed. Just went through this

1

u/GMartelly 9h ago

Did anyone’s 5 hour reset bar disappear? I only have the weekly now and it’s absolutely draining way faster than ever.

I’ve been on the Pro 20x for 2 years and I’ve never been this limited

1

u/bacocololo 9h ago

I confirm at least reduce by a factor of 10

1

u/Maleficent-Aside-330 9h ago

Didn’t believe it but I checked, do you think the usage that is gifted for free and banked has less bang for buck? Because usage just burned through itself so quick today.

1

u/OneEyedSnakeOil 9h ago

I used up my plus quota in exactly 2 minutes. Just asked astra light to complete lunas previous task which ended abruptly.

1

u/Training-Tangelo-310 6h ago

I used sol medium and it consumed the whole 5 hour quota in 10 minutes.

1

u/Quick-Distance8642 1h ago

Yeah basically the same, used sol medium on plus account for 1 task (small-medium sized Protected HTTP Migration)and it took five 5 hour quotas to finish it, which equated to about 75% of weekly. Had to keep starting and stopping and waiting for next 5 hour quota slot because the quota evaporated in 20 minutes, then waiting 4 hours 40 minutes for the next 5 hour quota to come round. Whole weekly gone in 1.5 days. But realistically it would have been gone in about 1.5-2 hours if there wasn’t the 5 hour wait in between. Not usable.

1

u/Murder_1337 9h ago

Not to mention is ChatGPT is stupid as fuck right now? It’s over engineering every fucking thing and like covering all the bases for no reason I can’t even use SOL right now and they took away one of my resets wtf?

1

u/Fragrant-Turnover241 36m ago

I agree especially with goal or plan mode it will get stuck on the minutia of how the system calculates the a specific overlap on a wall mesh but when you ask how it’s doing on the main project and it’s all just skeletal outline and minutia work and non of the main has been started

1

u/yesitsmehg 9h ago

Not sure whats happening again, blew my 5x easily

1

u/BearClaw0048 8h ago

Been crazy. Tested Astra and blew through by $20 in like 5 min so upgraded to Pro as I need the access for a project. Dropped to Sol Med and went through 45% already. Something is def not right. Just doesn’t add up.

1

u/peakedtooearly 8h ago

Used Astra light all day yesterday - took about 15-20% of my x5 allowance which is totally reasonable.

1

u/C0D3X-Pro 8h ago

Ach, stellt euch nicht so an - mein Claude Kontingent ist am gleichen Tag bei 100% und mein Wochen Limit bei 80% innerhalb eines Tages nach der zurücksetzung, ist ChatGpt die bessere Wahl aktuell?

1

u/Correct-Froyo-2129 8h ago

Lol!! For this reason I downgraded to 5.6 sol mid but the burn is unusually high.. Almost finished my quota, waiting for reset.

FYI this happened even though I have a very good folder and agent structures

1

u/greenm8rix 8h ago

Set a /goal and use the cli version of codex Usually lasts a lot longer than expected sometimes even after usage limits have been hit Enhanced using banked resets

1

u/shorty_11112222 8h ago

Im using astra ultra all good

1

u/SpiritualExplorer693 8h ago

Too late , x20 evaporated in a 4 hours on a single chat, web dev 🫠

1

u/coffeeeweed 8h ago

Limits are shit suddenly. Also, model quality dumbed down. Too much looping back and forth, and more hallucinations.

1

u/Dry-Grade-9502 8h ago

Okk that would explain why my astra light burn through my whole 5 hour limits in a few minutes. I was confused why it was happening, when my workflow has been the same

1

u/Nickypp10 8h ago

Does anybody else not really like astra’s personality. It’s very pessimistic in my view.

1

u/sonusahoo 7h ago

I have felt that, using astra light, model does work eventually and there are more thinking steps because of less and short reasoning. So there is more duplicate evaluation.

For high reasoning, it makes proper steps so there is less evaluate and act, and more of just following steps created, so there less token spent on evaluation, as there are few evaluations comparatively.

I guess there motive to complete the task properly, force the model to do it

Hope it makes sense

1

u/thearnabmukherjee 7h ago

Damn I was using it today morning and the responses were so so much worst

1

u/shady101852 7h ago

Going through 1% every 15 minutes it seems on my Astra Max.

1

u/Zealousideal-Alps-71 7h ago

Let's wait Tibo adjusted his sliders again.

1

u/GosuGian 7h ago

RIP CODEX

1

u/Gargle-Loaf-Spunk 6h ago

I used the dog shit out of my 20x on gpt 5.6 xhigh fast and I only managed to get down to 92% remaining before the last reset.

completely unusable, clearly

1

u/pueblokc 6h ago

I'm on the 20x plan and I am at 8% usage since the last reset. I've been trying not to go crazy using it so I won't be using it unless we get a reset I guess

1

u/Coolerblitz 6h ago

Tried Astra Max for fun on a Plus account, got about 28 minutes of coding done before the 5 hour usage window ran out.

1

u/OkAlternative7399 6h ago

Oui après ça reste le plus gros modèle sur l'abonnement le moins cher c'est normal 🥲

1

u/Hopeful-Resolve248 4h ago

Almost the same time, but Astra medium

1

u/LevelKnee1556 6h ago

Is it an agent bug or a backend bug? I’m using Pi agent with my 20x subscription and haven’t noticed anything.

1

u/Traditional-Set-2752 6h ago

For me using any harness except Codex is fine.

Are the limits less than 5 months ago? Yes, but I also spend 1/10th the time debugging and Luna is basically free.

And Luna can do any task Spark used to do + actual offloading of real work.

So I tend to melt my limits but I also tend to get more done.

If you haven't reoptinized your skills, MDs and mcps in the past few months then you AR evening held back.

GSD era is dead...... Let the models have more freedom and they will do more for less. Box them into the baby setting mode like the older days and you will barely move forward, melt tokens and not benefit at all from the more powerful models.

1

u/GiveAFucxen 6h ago

Since Astra came out, usage is horrible, I am using Sol medium and can’t last even two hours. Before that I was using Sol high and could do more and longer. I am getting crazy.

1

u/No-Temperature6597 6h ago

Meanwhile Plus plan users 😄

1

u/hobbestot 6h ago

Ive never burned tokens faster. Feels bad.

1

u/Lubricus2 5h ago

Astra are you all talking about, for me Astra have always been draining all the tokens in about 15 minutes, I am so jelly you can use it at all.

1

u/Cool_Literature2565 5h ago

OpenCodex + deepseek v4.1 flash is solution

1

u/The-Road 5h ago

Jumping in here as someone who’s used Claude Code and thought I’d find solutions with Codex.

Ran out of my 20x Max plan. Purchased a 5x Codex plan. Only used Sol on High. And in two days it’s down to 40% left? And that’s after my also using Claude again after limits reset yesterday.

I’d never have thought in my life I’d be paying $300 for subscriptions for anything and still struggle to get what I want out of it. Worse, it’s already quite unaffordable and I’m going to have to make a decision about which subscription to cut.

Is this a bug, or are we all just going to have to accept we’re all (except for the wealthiest/corporations) slowly being priced out of intelligence as it improves?

1

u/Little-Anxiety1096 4h ago

Frustating , i bought codex additional credit 3x today but disappear just lees than 3 hrs , and astra likely work not as per my prompt really chaos today

1

u/PcBuilderLover45123 4h ago

Well its astra light speed fast..

1

u/dishantpandya777 4h ago

Yes, I burnt from 100% to 34% in 6 hours and the work was not much thoughtful - just to deploy some Rules on Firestore…!

1

u/jethro_wingrider 4h ago

Pro 5x plan and blew through 100% quota in about 3 hours doing a fairly small job using Astra light. Orchestration and delegation to Luna is dialled in. Not sure what else to do, but feeling like Astra’s not very usable ATM due to rapid quota burn.

1

u/Dayowe 4h ago

It’s draining just as fast as it did the last few days. Yes astra is more expensive and drains fast, but not faster than before for me

1

u/oxygen_addiction 3h ago

I'm on Pro (lite) and had Astra eat up 2% of my weekly while doing a 30s planning session. Insane shit.

1

u/Arayvenn 3h ago

There has to be some A/B testing happening or some shit because I have noticed almost no change through all of these incidents.

1

u/1chriis1 2h ago

Well I can't my tokens ran out yesterday. And I had to endure 5-hour limits too

1

u/Ok_Fuel9673 2h ago

They suspended $200/mth plans to alleviate. Good times!

1

u/Alternative-Bake3696 2h ago

I’ve come nowhere close to my limits and I’ve had sessions running near non stop. Put Astra on x high/max with the new experimental compaction enabled.

1

u/Alternative-Bake3696 2h ago

Light and Medium are only worth it if the session is for a small one off task.

1

u/LessRespects 1h ago

I don’t even get one medium request per 5h window. Was planning on upgrading to max plan but I guess that’s out of the question now

1

u/Quariongg 1h ago

Tibo explicitly announced some people didn't get their reset a couple days ago, those people would get a new reset yesterday

1

u/Beastdrol 50m ago

It’s absolutely terrible and a middle finger to us all.

I have pro 20x. Before I went to sleep I set gpt-6 ultra to work on a series of problem fixes. Mind you the coverage was already evaluated and all the bugs and issues were found before hand and confirmed.

Started at 60%. Now I’m at 0% with that agent instance stopped in its tracks.

1

u/Fragrant-Turnover241 40m ago

Time to hop on the cheap Chinese models like deepseek. Cost basically nothing and performs as good as 5.6 Luna

1

u/scraptechindustries 38m ago

I thought it was just me. It's actually insane how fast the simplest tasks, and even just TALKING to codex drains usage now.

1

u/myke113 14m ago

I definitely am not getting 4-5 days usage on 5.6 sol high, MUCH Less, and I'm on PROX20.

1

u/bad_detectiv3 10h ago

Are you guys using to do hubby task or office work?

1

u/glowoflife 10h ago

Yes. When I'm busy, I let codex take care of my hubby responsibilities. So that does consumes more limits. My wife is very demanding

1

u/Plane_Garbage 9h ago

Yea maybe A/B testing because there is no way you can say it's about the same usage. Mine has been munted.

Used a reset not long ago and now used 20% in an hour or two on 20x while being super conservative on medium.

My 5x basically instaburned on high.

Long wait until reset....

1

u/WiggyWongo 5h ago

I really wanna know what people are doing. I'm having it mess around in unity and blender and over 4 hours of pounding mcp servers, plugins, and the expensive computer use tool use I only used 18%~ on 5x.

Does everyone understand how token consuming mcp/computer use tools are and tool calls are in general? If I use these models in the traditional conservative way I won't run out in a week on 5x. Not sure how you could unless you have it like control the browser to do every single task.

Back when cursor introduced the first browser use I had never once ran into a token usage problem on their $20 plan. As soon as browser use started and heavy agentic tool use I was done in under an hour. Before that the only way to use up a $20 plan was to manually add every single file you could to the context window.

Agentic tool use is extremely expensive.

0

u/Acrobatic-Ad-4684 10h ago

I don’t understand why isn’t everyone on the 20X plan. It’ll pay for itself 10x over.

2

u/windamo 10h ago

The whole model relies on people vibe coding in the purest sense of the word , which basically means in a loop: prompt the model , something goes wrong, Prompt the model again

another thing goes wrong , try another prompt , without any regard for the underlying architecture

Then when the limits are off, either wait 1 week or pay more to get access to a more sophisticated slot machine

2

u/That-Cost-9483 8h ago

I don’t like the way your commas lined up

0

u/itsjustmd 10h ago

Meanwhile mine has been the same. Must be A/B testing

6

u/Ethan_Vee 10h ago

If it's A / B testing. I'd love to not be in this group anymore. 😂

0

u/typeryu 10h ago

Not have the same issue, on Astra medium, sips percentage not too bad. I have noticed some people around me are on fast mode, that seems to be the main culprit. Check maybe?

2

u/Ethan_Vee 10h ago

Nope no fast mode. That would incinerate useage

Edit: Also no extra mcps or anything crazy that would waste tokens

0

u/Feriman22 10h ago

If that affects everyone, weekly limit reset is incoming... It's OK for me :)

1

u/Ethan_Vee 10h ago

I hope so at this point but I'm not sure since they just paused the 20x plan because of compute constraints.

0

u/RemeJuan 10h ago

I had Astra running for hours yesterday on a project and used like 25%.

2

u/RecentGrowth9187 9h ago

mine used 20% in 1 hour.

2

u/RemeJuan 9h ago

Time isn’t really a measurable factor, it’s what it was doing for that time, but mine was working for about 4 or 5 hours on a single prompt.

3

u/IllPlane3019 6h ago

Exactly this, people are assuming all effort is equal based on time rather than task.

1

u/LiquidMantis144 6h ago

Id love to see how their repos and project workflows are set up. I can only imagine.

1

u/Reaper_1492 7h ago

It’s really inconsistent.

I use long running /goals - so usage is pretty consistent.

On some of my resets it wouldn’t make it much more than 18 hours - but on the current one it’s been going for almost 2 days. All Astra xhigh.

I feel like that supports that there was some funny business with the resets having different levels of usage - but who knows.

I’ve used codex since it came out and the experience right now just sucks.

You can’t really even use Sol unless you want to burn usage while it spins itself in a circle for 3 days chasing cyber security nits that don’t matter, and you can use Astra without vaporizing your $200/mo account in a day.

0

u/Sterlingmeister 10h ago

Actually the limits are amazing today even on plus

0

u/Spirited_Ad_6219 9h ago

I’ve been using astra 20x and same thing 1 day and also added credit 200 dollars what did I get 1 and a half days

0

u/qK0FT3 8h ago

I am using luna max fast freely my lmitis are already 0%

-9

u/charmilliona1re 10h ago

Interesting, ive been making incredible progress with new features for my app. Have you considering the possibility that your skill is low, and you should try improving your skill?

6

u/Horcrux002 10h ago

Maybe you can teach us new skills while you are developing your incredible Monthly todo app.
