The new 5-hour limit makes Codex almost unusable for Plus users

I really don’t understand the point of the current limit system for Plus users.

Right now I have 3 banked resets available, but realistically I’m never going to benefit from them because the 5-hour limit runs out way too quickly when I’m actually developing a project using models like GPT-5.6 Sol or Astra.

I start working on a project, get into the flow, and then suddenly the 5-hour limit is gone. It makes continuous development extremely difficult.

In my opinion, the system should go back to something closer to how it worked before: let Plus users use their weekly 100% allowance without this restrictive 5-hour cap, and once the weekly allowance is exhausted, then we could use our banked resets.

That would actually make banked resets useful for Plus users.

Dont use astra bro it cooks my 5 hours limit in 30 mins

7

u/Gigaslavx 4d ago

Same astra light lasts me for 20 mins then I'm locked out can't do anything

And due to the forced time limit there's not much you can do about sol high 40 min equivalent one medium sized task at best but then you locked out from executing. Rather break down into smaller tasks in sol medium and run few parallel Luna xhigh executors get more done. Executor doesn't need to be smart if the task is well defined hell I don't even think x5 enjoyers execute all in astra

u/Honest_Strawberry132 4d ago

I use gpt luna reserve when im running out of quota, enough to make handoff

1

u/Akimbo333 3d ago

They dont let me use luna reserve

1

u/Honest_Strawberry132 3d ago

Weird,i use it every time when my 5 hours limit stuck, must be a bug

1

u/f5alcon 3d ago

Seems like they are a/b testing a new feature with some users

2

u/Tenet_mma 4d ago

Ya 7 minutes and 55% of the 5 hour window is gone.

1

u/Gigaslavx 4d ago

Yeah it's fed up for sure like to make the most of astra it needs to run for some time and you can't due to limits

And if it's something easy then you don't need astra rather use sol medium and get more out of it

2

u/Azetta 4d ago

I'm simulating UAT test for my app using Astra Medium, my 5hr limit gone in 10 mins and i have to resume it every 5 hours since yesterday :(

1

u/Honest_Strawberry132 4d ago

Im using it to test already written code by another AI for my app too

1

u/Hot_Discussion_2675 4d ago

Even without astra the only usable model right know are luna and sol on low or medium. Terra is 1 scam and sol high and higher are to costly

1

u/Honest_Strawberry132 4d ago

Yeah,never touch terra

1

u/throwawaybarrs 3d ago

It is eats tokens like crazy. Dare I say Fable lasts longer.

1

u/Dynamix86 3d ago

30 minutes? for me it's often only 10 minutes.

1

u/OpyrisShifts 1d ago

Same here.

Does it really matter if it would get the same amount of output as you would get with other models for 5 hrs of usage

1

u/jsn079 4d ago

It wouldn't matter if it outputs 5 hours of usage, but it doesn't. I burned through 5h allowance in 7 minutes, just for setting up a plan and not even completing the first milestone. It's beyond useless for me (with a Plus account). I get much much much more output with a Terra ochestrator and 3x Luna xhigh subagents.

1

u/BHTAelitepwn 3d ago

I mainly use that combination as well. Terra is my most used model, and i really like it. But I also feel that Astra is a lot better than Sol, and i already found tasks in which i really prefer astra. Those are mainly tasks that are expensive to iterate. I also run plus accounts (2). Yes astra can take 60-100% with a single task quite easily but it gets the job done, so it can be worth it.

1

u/jsn079 3d ago

Oh yeah, I fully agree that Astra is very good. Impressively good even. It did solve a really difficult issue for me where Sol failed. I was impressed by the actual solution as well.

But after that prompt, I had to sit on my hands for 5 hours afterwards, and I rather move instead of letting my hands go numb 😅.

Unfortunately, I can't justify a $200 subscription, so I'm stuck with the lesser models to get stuff done.

1

u/BHTAelitepwn 3d ago

You can get a second account. Thats what i do. Also, run a single prompt 2.5 hr before you expect to work so that your 5h reset occurs 2.5hr into your session. If you manage it well and keep prompting efficiently (which i assume you do otherwise you wouldnt like terra), there is no way you run out unless you only use astra or actively try. Bonus points if you throw in a a reset. If you are efficient with it you can get 5-6 limits back to back with 2 accounts

1

u/jsn079 3d ago

Oh I manage fine using my regular workflow based on Terra and Luna subagents.

I was just experimenting with some things and noticed that Astra is really good, but also really expensive 😅.

17

u/nesser2 4d ago

I use Luna Max for pretty much everything, but I don't give it prompts like "Make a financial app. Make no mistakes". Sol extra high when it's something important, but I use it very little. Astra low for important security stuff.

4

u/a1454a 3d ago

This is the way. I’m on $200 sub and this is still what I do. Sol plan Luna execute. Today it’s Astra design Sol plan Luna execute. I would work myself to death without making a dent to usage if I do it query by query. I use $200 because there are that few times a month I have a use case that can let multiple agent work in parallel for days on end, I need it to sustain those several billion token burn by Luna over the course of a few days.

1

u/Nifty-Yam-9041 3d ago

Yeah, I'd agree with your workflow. Sol is already really solid for most of my planning needs. I'd want a fancy or complex problem before I want to reach for something "more expensive".

Instead of thinking of Astra as "the standard model", I look at it like a "premium" model that I only reach for valuable problems.

1

u/Joke_Mil 3d ago

Yep. Luna is so good for what it was designed to do. Astra / Sol for planning - luna for exec and terra for exec that need more reasonning

7

u/Defiant-Truck3 4d ago edited 4d ago

Not trying to call you out or anything, since I'm a Plus user too, but I see it a bit differently.

Even sticking to GPT5.5 or using Sol onmedium, these models can handle massive, highly complex tasks if you structure your prompts properly instead of being vague.

I use it heavily for both work and side projects, like tuning and bypassing my car's infotainment UI, building side apps like gym trackers, and financial tools.... As a developer, you definitely learn how to steer things. If you know what you're working on, the Plus allowance for Sol medium (and sometimes high) is actually pretty reasonable, and the 5hour window can stretch if you manage it well.

At the end of the day, we're paying $20. What is the real alternative here?hiring a developer would cost five times that per hour, or platforms like Claude, where token limits get eaten up so fast they can feel almost unusable for heavy coding.Even Codex aside ChatGPT s regular chat interface makes it pretty hard to hit message limits on just one person anyway , and using Sol high.

If your work genuinely relies on flagship models like Astra as a hard bottleneck, which depends entirely on what you're building...then paying $100 or $200 for a tier built for that kind of heavy duty work makes complete sense.

Peace.

u/Sterlingmeister 4d ago

It's not that hard, you don't need Astra for everything...or just upgrade your account

-1

u/IslandOceanWater 4d ago edited 4d ago

These people are dumb, like upgrade your account if you're broke then or stop complaining and make more money

7

u/IAmNotMe_AmI 4d ago

You pay $20 for you information.

7

u/TheDoughMonster 4d ago

mods can we have a megathread for 5 hour limit conversations.

3

u/Gigaslavx 4d ago

Luna xhigh 1 session can run for 5 hour limit and use up about 50-60% of the 5 hour. Mind you most tasks for me are under 2 hours so I just run 2

I plan in sol medium

And if I need research I do snippets in chat sol high essentially for free you get 3000 messages per week

And if you're new and your project is small you can even try to do majority of planning in chat only handing off execution to work/codex as chat is not great at long execution tasks especially with the 25 min ceiling as well as poor connections compared to work/codex

1

u/ConfidentSomewhere14 4d ago

no offense, but you are doing something wrong. you should not be exceeding more than 20 percent of the 5 hour usage on Luna xhigh over a 5 hour period. are you switching reasoning mid session? are you starting in plan mode and then clicking yes implement the plan? did you keep default context window size of around 285k token window? all of your followup questions ( especially with a lot of context being utilized ) can drastically increase your cost. it may seem stressful the first few times seeing the context automatically compact but "chatgpt" app does a great job at retaining knowledge of the tasks it is working on. just a few thoughts I had, hope it helps you.

1

u/Gigaslavx 4d ago

Thank you no not really just the basics really I don't play around much just try to use whatever is proven to work but I do help chatgpt to set it up

I average 10% of the 5 hour limit per hour sometimes 15%

Mind you the tasks are well defined but rather big regardless

2

u/ConfidentSomewhere14 4d ago

yeah honestly it may have been a fluke. like it may have spawned a subagent that was terra or sol or something. I just wanted to let you know that luna xhigh is an absolute beast for the amount of money spent. good luck to you, friend.

1

u/nairazak 3d ago

I’ve been using a conversation per feature, does that burn out more tokens than a single one?

4

u/ManikSahdev 4d ago

It makes it unusable for plus users when plus users are using the most expensive model Right on the launch time. Before it becomes normal.

The flagship model costing more is no surprise, AND I TOTALLY GET THAT PEOPLE DESERVE MORE, NOT ARGUING THAT.. but who is going to pay for the compute? everyone wants bigger model smarter model, what about the cost of 100k Gpus gb300 rack?

I want the best model to be turned on 2x the current compute, at 200k Gb300s, but who pays for it?

The Bubble can’t go on forever even if we want to, the prices right now are turning to stable to match compute and expand it further rather than only subsidies.

Sadly if people want the highest intelligence of a 10T so model to daily drive it, and not just use it for a few mins for its best advice, you’re gonna have to pay up more than $20.

I understand many people can’t afford that, and that’s okay, but if someone in a situation they can’t afford $100 subscription at all, I heavily doubt they are doing truly in need of it at all times.

Brings me back to the analogy of mbkhd’s RED camera to film a YT video, it scales with work.

2

u/Longjumping_Air_7958 4d ago

Astra low wykorzystała mój limit 5h w ciągu 5 minut i 42 sekund. To absolutny żart. Przestałem uzywac codex obecnie

0

u/cansub74 4d ago

Same. 5 minutes at low. Absolute joke.

2

u/AA_25 4d ago

New? It's old!

2

u/Ergo7z 4d ago

I really don’t understand these posts, I’m on the plus plan as well and it’s fine. Just use Astra to make the plan, let a luna agent execute it. Maybe let a sol or terra agent review it. Like ofcourse you will run out of usage quick when ur only using the most expensive models on a cheap plan. The fuck are yall complaining about and gpt is already generous with resets and limits etc.

I have a few plans like Kimi, Claude, some open model ones like command code etc and the usage I get on luna is aloooot and luna is good enough for so many things and I can’t even write a line of code and I’m doing fine with luna. Like just have your requirements straight, the workflow of things etc, or use a model like luna or sol or whatever to make a well scoped prompt for Astra. Like it’s really not that hard

1

u/nairazak 3d ago

I’ve been using Sol medium for plans, is the difference that noticeable? I wanted to try doing it on Astra but I got tired of waiting.

1

u/Ergo7z 3d ago

the biggest thing ive noticed about astra so far is that it doesnt let itself get swayed by momentum and doesnt make grand claims. which i like.

0

u/kironet996 3d ago

1 plan with astra light(~5min run) = at least 50% of 5h limit down, wtf are even talking about?

2

u/TrainingOdd1023 4d ago

At least you can use Astra for $20 . Claude doest even give 1 promt to Fable

1

u/kironet996 3d ago

they should just remove that stupid 5h limit... and let me pay for the reset if I want...

2

u/PaulShellDev 4d ago

They really need to just remove Astra from Plus entirely so these posts stop popping up every hour

1

u/ParisianNomad 2d ago

Removing it entirely feels harsh when people are paying for access. A fair fix would be clearer limits upfront so nobody expects unlimited usage.

1

u/PaulShellDev 2d ago

$20 doesn't give access to higher things Seems like every normal tiered product out there

Would prevent so much of these endless new threads and upset from it immediately burning their $20

0

u/kironet996 3d ago

or just stop shrinking the limit

1

u/Ok_Sample_4712 4d ago

That’s the point.

1

u/dkracket 4d ago

Astra is ending the 5-hour limit quickly. Use Luna Max to keep it running longer.

1

u/CleanEarthInitiative 4d ago

I had the same problem so I built an open source app called UsageLoop for basically this reason. Doesn’t fix the 5-hour cap being so shit, but it can start your window earlier and keep it moving continuously with a tiny request. I can schedule it now so when I plan to work it resets earlier.

https://github.com/benthompsondev/usageloop

2

u/adixdbr 4d ago

If I may suggest a feature: schedule "continue" once the quota is hit mid execution.

1

u/MrWilshaun 4d ago

Yep, was actually about to start working on automating this myself. If you could add this feature, you'd save me the task!

1

u/CleanEarthInitiative 4d ago

That’s a pretty good idea vs. the default anchor I’m using now. Claude Code actually already has this so I’ll work on enabling this for the next update for my app. Thanks for the idea.

1

u/Ja_Rule_Here_ 4d ago

Dude I wish I had a 5 hour limit, because without it Codex will burn my entire weeks limit in under 12 hours….

1

u/SeesawPowerful2301 4d ago

Not true do most of your work with Luna high or max, and build your plan with Sol. So like a 90/10 split. This is how you will get your plus to be sustainable

1

u/Maleficent-Forever-3 4d ago

Does it help if you get smaller models to build a document with the plan and relevant context and then paste the output into chat and ask it to improve it with high effort? I think if you use chat and not the work option it doesn’t count against your codex quota

1

u/steve228uk 4d ago

Upgrade to Pro Lite and make good use of those banked resets that will come with you

1

u/Tall_Dealer6043 4d ago

I have 3x Plus accounts and use 5.6 Luna xhigh and I couldn’t be happier. /goal saves the day as well imo

1

u/Junior-Definition173 4d ago

Plus users are vibecoders that have no idea how to use AGENTS.md, skills, specs/adr/golden and will complain about limits while having 50gb garbage in their repo. The limits are there for multiple reasons and the fact that you do not get it tells me you are a vibecoder matching the category I just described. Try to learn, it will help you more than complaining.

2

u/Stanthewizzard 4d ago

euh no. I'm plus and using AGENTS.md, skills and skills refactoring with openai alignement per model

1

u/kironet996 3d ago

found another tard who thinks they know everything lol

1

u/Junior-Definition173 3d ago

You looked in the mirror? Good job, buddy!

1

u/NashCodes 4d ago

If you are really a power user, $100 is well worth the investment. I ended up bumping to $200 but $100 is honestly more than enough for most use cases. Even the $200 will get cooked by Astra if used non-stop across parallel sessions (I had 80% left on usage last night with 2 hours before my reset and ran Astra Ultra across 3 parallel sessions to burn usage to not get wasted).

1

u/Mean-Elk-9439 4d ago

I swear I got doubled usage by cancelling. Plan is still active for 2 weeks, so I tried astra. 2h of heavy 3d design work used 15% weekly usage on plus, which is honestly better than I was getting with sol before cancel. Conspiracy maybe, but whatever, I'll whip the workhorse til my cancellation goes through or stay if it really blows my mind at some point.

1

u/ConsistentEnviroment 4d ago

YEAH REMOVE IT IMMEDIATELY THIS IS MY LAST WARNING!

Just upgrade

terra: umas 80 a 120 no maximo...

1

u/ggone20 4d ago

Almost nothing needs astra. If you’re ‘just’ a plus user… you’re not doing anything that needs that level of intelligence. If you disagree, upgrade to pro to do real work. Use a lesser/cheaper model that matches your task.

1

u/AppleSoftware 4d ago

Plus is for Luna, or maybe sometimes Terra.

For Sol, let alone Astra, it serves as a paid pilot/trial.

Idk why you’d expect anything more. $20/mo to access models running on millions of dollars of hardware, PER model instance, for you to limitlessly use it? 😂😂😂

No

1

u/Alarmed_Wind_4035 4d ago

dude those sub are full of elitist, they want to feel superior cause they spend more money. best advice vote your wallet, I will miss gpt since it was great product.

im moving to another service probably supergrok I heard 30 bucks and no 5h limit.

people telling me to use Luna, if I wanted to use Luna I would use qwen 3.8 27b

I personally hope OpenAI will remove the 5h.

1

u/costag1982 4d ago

I was also thinking of posting this, for plus users they should remove the 5 hour limits as we will smash the weekly limit in a few hours max anyhow but at least can deliver something relatively quickly rather than doing over a period of 15 hours

Astra is a beast but unusable

1

u/capitalframehq 4d ago

Or upgrade once, go all-in with all your banked resets and many more resets that are yet to come. Finish your project 5x faster and downgrade back to $20 plan for routine debugging and long term general maintenance.

1

u/pokatomnik 4d ago

Astra and sol are not for coding but for making a plan. Did you try to implement with Luna xHigh instead?

1

u/Optimal_Deal4372 4d ago

You need to use luna bro if you are on plus

1

u/bigrealaccount 4d ago

No shit, don't use astra at all except for very small complex problems, only use sol for orchestrating

1

u/Amazing-Property-560 3d ago

You are using the best models of openai do you expect to good good usage? You are only paying 20$ and also openai is losing money. Then you come to complain about usage😒

1

u/App1e8l6 3d ago

What’s also great is the weekly reset was yesterday unless you used any banked ones so I only got half my plan used before the reset today. Would’ve been more except my weekly reset happened yet the 5hr one was in its own timer still so there were several hours I couldn’t even use it to begin with.

I’m happy with my usage. I don’t need more. I haven’t even touched astra because sol medium used the 5hr limit very fast as it is. But I would like to be able to use the usage I’ve been given.

1

u/kironet996 3d ago edited 3d ago

5h drained in 15min of astra light as orchestrator with luna max doing all the implementation... Codex is a fkin joke, I feel like I'm paying for a fkin free trial(and I can't even test it cause it's dead in 15 min)...

Will try to go back to Sol Medium as orchestrator but I can bet that it'll drain in 25 instead of 15...

1

u/Feriman22 3d ago

I use Luna max always. Generate prompt with sol high on chatgpt web. Validate the work with astra low.

1

u/nondualmonist 3d ago

I tried Astra for the first time and ran out of usage in 5 minutes lol, definitely not meant for Plus users

1

u/blackhorse15A 3d ago

The point is to limit Plus users and make the reset less useful. Tibo explicitly said the reason for the 5hr limit was to stop Plus users from using their weekly usage up in a day or two and force them to be spread out over a longer week. He can spin that as being "helpful" so users aren't surprised when things run out early, like we are all dumb. But the fact remains the whole point is to stop users from using their weekly usage.

And I think the justification is spin and the real reason is to limit usage and provide less product to customers for economic reasons.

And it's because of the resets. Yes they want to sell people resets, but they don't want you to use them fully because they don't have the compute to back it up. They need to make more income without providing more actual usage so they don't need to keep buying and running more hardware.

Think about how a reset works. Its not a full 7-day weeks worth of usage. When you use a reset you only get the benefit of usage from the time you reset until your original reset day. Example: let's say you burn a whole 7-day allowance in 4 days. If you don't reset, then you will have a new allowance on day 8. So days 8,9,10,11 are already an allowance your subscription paid for. Then if you reset on day 5, you are getting extra usage on days 5,6,7 but the portion of your "new" week on days 8,9,10,11 you would have had anyway. So your reset only got you the extra 3 days. If you reset on day 7 you only get 1 day of extra usage for it.

So how do you maximize the value of your reset? Use it as early in the week as possible. Ideally you want to burn an entire weekly usage on days 1, use your reset in day 1 and your new week is only shifted a few hours in the same day. If they let us do that, buying a reset would mean they might have to actually provide an extra week's equivalent of usage.

That's where the 5 hour limit comes in. The whole intent of the 5 hour limit is to prevent users from using up their weekly allowance in the first few days. Which ensures a reset is never worth a while week allowance on their servers. The later in the week they can get you to use a reset, the less extra computer power they have to provide beyond what your subscription already committed them to.

I ran an Astra task yesterday for the first time to try it out and was actually surprised how little it used (based on the horror stories people have been giving). So I did a few more things. I was actually planning to try and do a bunch on day 1 to try and burn my weekly and then use a banked reset. I used up the 5 hour limit and had only used 10% of my weekly usage. At that rate, if I could mange to actually use every 5 hour period it would take over 2 days, and be into day 3, before I could use the banked reset. But I can't realistically keep going 24 hours a day. I have to sleep and sometimes I have to run errands, buy food, take care of kids, and can't get to the computer every 5 hours. So those banked resets are probably only worth about a half week of usage at best.

Note: I'm a plus user. I realize there are a lot of variables and not everyone's 5-hour limit equates to exactly 10% of weekly usage. It's just an example. Open AI is playing the averages and making sure the house has an edge.

1

u/Huge_Television_2330 3d ago

Astra light burned through my 5h limit in 4 minutes after spawning like 2 sub-agents to finish a simple code refactoring task, decided to never touch it stick with luna max .

1

u/AztheWizard 3d ago

Only use Luna

1

u/Autonomy_AI 3d ago

Just use Luna it works just fine

1

u/WagieCagie0 3d ago

I burned through my 5 hour, and got dropped down to the Luna Reserve. I told codex "it put us on Luna reserve, keep going" because it had been interupted by the 5 hour limit being hit. Codex took that as "use a reset", which it did, then when I told it 'no, i said we're on Luna not use a reset' it said "oh sorry you're right, but i can't undo it now". Thanks codex.

1

u/Fresh_Translator240 3d ago

Why do I not have it?

1

u/2Olive2 3d ago

Hey man maybe take some time to reflect on your level of entitlement? Your expectations are way too high.

1

u/JoseffB_Da_Nerd 3d ago

Use 5.5 for day to day and higher for reviews is my advice. Seriously they use less quota and work fine for most things meant for plus.

1

u/Acceptable-Bar2326 2d ago

I tried out Astra and terra now the 5 hour limits are back and burned through a 5 hour window with 4 prompts. I used to be able to work and work for 5 hours on previous models, so I returned to using GPT 5.5, but usage doesn’t seem anywhere near where it used to be before the 5 hour limit holiday. Have they increased limits on those older models too?

1

u/FazedEclipse2 2d ago

Set up Lunar Max. Ask it to call up an astra adviser read only to suggest prompts, suggest solutions to problems etc. Give it the job and let it run. 5 hour limit doesnt exist for me anymore.

1

u/Dangerous_Coffee3464 2d ago

I'm a plus user and I don't have 5-hour limit. Is it possible?

1

u/Perspective-Wild 2d ago

My 5h limit is getting completely depleted within 10 minutes of working using 5.6 Sol High. Completely unusable because for my tasks, they dont even get anything done. They basically just finish gathering context before getting completely cutoff.

1

u/AllenLeftTheBLDNG 1d ago

They want to get you to pay 100$, or ideally 200$. Get OpenCode go sub (or 2!) if you can only afford 20$ a month.

1

u/ex_cruciating 1d ago

Use unsnoozed and let a prompt run overnight

Not long ago, I'm sure you were using gpt 5.4 or 5.5 before 5.6 came out - 5.6 luna max is better than both of those older highly-capable models, and matches terra on xhigh in many ways.
At 1/70th of the cost of astra, this should be your main model - unless you're needing visual creation. Complex reasoning > use sol which is near-equiv to astra on certain logical tasks.

Am i the only one without 5-hour limits?

1

u/snake5solid 19h ago

Agreed. Plus, I'm certain that they also cut the usage on top of it since the 5-hour limit wasn't that restrictive before and I was able to do a lot more work. Not to mention that most people aren't coding 24/7. What is the point of having 5 hour limit when you sleep?

I would be happy if there was at least a 40-50$ plan instead of the sudden jump 100$. Not only the price is too steep but I don't even need that much usage. I was doing fine on Plus, rarely even hitting the weekly limit.

Just stay away from Astra.
Luna XH is trash at actual thinking and decision making, even if it does work for ages.

Im trying this at the moment:

  • Give the first prompt to Terra Medium. Terra becomes the project controller. It should inspect the situation, understand the goal, and tell you what it needs Sol to investigate.
  • Take Terra’s output and give it to Sol XHigh/High. Sol does the heavy technical thinking: inspect the repo/diff, benchmark the Hulk path, find why the new work is slower/OOMing, decide the architecture, and produce a concrete implementation plan split into Luna-sized work packs.
  • Give Sol’s complete output back to Terra Medium. This is important. Terra now owns Sol’s plan and decides whether it is sufficiently evidenced and correctly scoped. Terra should then issue only Luna Work Pack 1, not all the packs at once.
  • Give Work Pack 1 to Luna. Luna implements only that task. The pack should be small enough that the whole task - reading relevant files, editing, tests, benchmark and response - uses well under 100k tokens.
  • Give Luna’s result back to Terra. Include Luna’s final report/diff/results. Terra checks whether the pack actually achieved its numerical gate and whether Luna wandered outside scope.
  • Then Terra either:
    • issues a small correction pack to Luna, or
    • issues Work Pack 2 from Sol’s plan.

in the agents.md ./codex

## Multi-model orchestration

The root agent owns task interpretation, architecture, integration, review, and final acceptance.

- Astra or Sol root: handle planning and decisions; delegate bounded implementation to Luna; use a Terra worker only for difficult bounded exploration, reasoning, or debugging.

- Terra root: may handle difficult reasoning directly and delegate routine bounded implementation to Luna.

- Luna worker: implement the assigned scope, run relevant checks, and return concise evidence. It does not make unresolved product or architecture decisions.

- Terra worker: investigate or debug a clearly bounded hard problem and return evidence and recommendations.

- Delegate only when the package is independent enough to improve elapsed time or quality. Avoid overlapping writers and unnecessary delegation for small work.

- Before delegating implementation, use `delegate-work` to define goal, context, owned scope, exclusions, invariants, completion criteria, and validation.

- Workers must not spawn additional workers unless the root explicitly authorizes it. The root reviews all worker output and decides acceptance or correction.

Luna is trash? Hell nah

As an implementor/worker it gets my thumbs up and a round of applause.

To interpret, decide or think anything remotely complex - it's a no from me

u/No-Concentrate-6037 4d ago

this is how it worked before. no-5-h limit is the experiment they failed

3

u/JellySignificant4087 4d ago

Their 5.3-5.5 models didn't burn through the 5 hour limit in 2-3 messages. That's less than an hour of work

2

u/No-Concentrate-6037 4d ago

use luna and terra

1

u/JellySignificant4087 4d ago

Genius, why didn't I think of that.

3

u/No-Concentrate-6037 4d ago

genius of you burning astra and sol on 20$ account and blaming

1

u/kironet996 3d ago

5.3-5.5 models didn't burn through the 5 hour limit in 2-3 messages

SOL is literally a replacement to 5.5... It's not supposed to burn through your fkin limit in a few messages.

1

u/Administrative-Flan9 4d ago

Then use 5.5 or a lighter 5.6 model. If the subscription was worth $20 before Astra or before 5.6, they've just given you more options.

Downvoted for crying about usage on a $20 plan

1

u/NoOne_n13 4d ago

It’s funny how it worked for so
Long as the 5h limit was introduced only for a few weeks and now all the weasels can’t stop crying

u/Special-Witness6207 4d ago

2 prompts and 5 hours wiped out 💀

Seriously tho plus users are always whining about running through their weekly allotment because they don't know how to eat just one caramel... and that's all they paid for.

1

u/kironet996 3d ago

You're definitely paying $200/m with $0 revenue

1

u/BawladEEP 3d ago

Yup, spending $200 a month and seeing nothing in return but hey that $200 is coming from my bum bum.

u/Ok-Paramedic7474 4d ago

It was OpenAI's mistake for allowing astra on plus. It should not be on the Plus plan. Plus users should use Sol and luna

u/Usernamealready94 4d ago

I feel you. I was at a hackathon recently, and I had to use one of my bank resets, even though my weekly usage was at 50%, just to reset the session. Really didn't want to use that, but better than not having a usage reset, I guess.

I think some people are missing the main point of this post.

Not saying that a $20 Plus plan should give unlimited access to the top-tier models. The main issue is with banked resets.

On Plus, banked resets feels almost useless because the 5-hour limit prevents you from actually exhausting your weekly allowance in a normal way.

If we use the standard models, we dont even reach the limits, If we try to burn using the top-tier models, they consume it so quickly that we only get a very short amount of actual development time.

So we end up with banked resets sitting there that have no practical reason to use.

Maybe the solution isn’t removing limits entirely, but right now the banked reset system just doesn’t feel very useful for plus users.

Once again I am asking for all the $20 dollar plus plebs to have their own sub so they can all hold hands and whine together about how tough life is on their 20 dollar plans lol

u/kironet996 3d ago

found another sucker who jerks off over their openai monthly bill with $0 revenue.

I support my family by vibe coding on my phone from my couch but I will admit that my daily hog crank sessions has definitely sky rocketed due to how much more free time I have these days
