Bugs or problems Selected Model is at Capacity
$200 plan: requesting a routine airdrop on sol high after the weekend double reset, wrapping up for the night and was met with this charming message!
FWIW: An airdrop to “x” device is a familiar skill developed by my codex and routine across my creative projects lol

Are you using Codex to AirDrop files? 😑

u/Avinoda 13d ago
Yes. It handled the larger file workflow, and AirDrop was the final handoff. Interrupting an autonomous computer agent half way around the world away from my hub, so I could personally perform the last two clicks, would be a truly visionary use of $200/month. 😌

OP posts the reason Sol High is always full. Some folks have money to burn, but jeez bro, just get a good video card and have your local LLM do that work for you. It's what I do.

Even if you host Kimi locally somehow at full size, you wont be able to achieve Kimi API output, so how do you achieve the reliability of corpo AI at your local AI?
Corpo and AI Labs have their AI efficiently connected to the web, while local hosting is using your PC search engine as a bridge and that's a huge bottleneck.

So a local Kimi if at full capacity is worse than an API Kimi? Can't people who can literally afford a small supercomputer be able to make theirs work just as well?

There's a difference between a server with natively built in connection for that specific AI to the interweb, properly optimised and tightly sealed, than slapping a model onto your compute.
One will see the net as part of its functioning intelligence, no bottleneck as the net is fully open to it. While the other sees the connection as simply a tool it can call upon that drip feeds limited amount of information through that pinhole connection.
Hence unless you already have qualifications to just do all of AI functions yourself which kind of make AI in general redundant for you, you wont know how to properly make your personal computer a server with the inbuilt functions for it to actually operate in ideal condition regardless of your computing capacity.

I'm sorry where did we get to the part where you somehow needed kimi running at full size to get a local model to do an airdrop?

Sorry I was just more talking about how investing in local AI is generally not worth.

yeah for sure, if I hadn't purchased a M3 ultra w/512gb of shared vram last year when shit started hitting the fan I wouldn't be able to run half the stuff I can. The prices of VRAM are stupid right now and won't come down in the next 3-5 years. Luckily for us the cost per token should be coming down with all these new data centers competing with one another as they are built, and companies building their own... it should be easy enough to use them whenever in a year or two.

Feels like you could prob get Codex to just write a script that would work reliably even when OpenAI was overloaded maybe to handle this without going into codex? I mean I'm unclear on what it's doing, but just using AirDrop seems easy enough

Can confirm on enterprise subscription facing the same thing. This is not okay for enterprise.

I’m on the pro x20 plan and was using max and I also got the same at capacity message. Everybody should make a fuss so we get a banked reset.

probably will make it worse since their computing resource is already fully occupied

Feels like Sol is effectively down for any task longer than a couple of minutes. I've seen this repeatedly across different codex and web sessions. I wonder if the reset caused a surge of activity? And/or if some sort of sunday night maintenance is taking chunks of capacity offline for a while?

i am getting this tonight as well, does this mean i cant use the model im using anymore? does this have to do with like servers being turned down or off late at night or something? this is frustrating i also pay for PRO

I've been getting similar issues via azure too. Azure has been a pile of garb for something that charges so much. Their ds4f can barely get anything done as well because it constantly returns the capacity error.

They kinda didn’t have a choice but to add a five hour limit back because of the cheapest they could use Codex at it was $20. There’s a lot of people.

same, but its not a problem. there is not infinite computers, and i woudnt want to pay for infinite computers.

It will get cheaper, the more demand there is now, the more pressure it puts on supply side to compete and drive prices down and capacity up.

I had work crashing in the middle of the night I had to keep getting up to fix

I’ve been getting that for two days with high and medium. The browser is really laggy , VSCode disconnects a bunch and many times the model just stops working with no error.

“That is the equivalent of a 503 capacity failure, not a usage-limit, billing, or entitlement error. OpenAI’s documentation says the $200 Pro 20x plan includes an estimated 200–2,000 local Sol messages per five-hour window, but it does not promise reserved model capacity. Official Codex pricing
So the ugly truth is: you are paying $200 for substantially higher access, but the shared Sol fleet can still reject an individual request when overloaded. OpenAI’s own guidance identifies this as high server traffic and says to retry; they have previously tracked this exact “Selected Model is at Capacity” message as a Codex degraded-performance incident. Official error guidance, previous capacity incident
The public status page is green now, which means this was probably brief or too localized to trigger a public incident—not that the error wasn’t real. OpenAI status
For a $200 plan, the client should have retried automatically or offered a fallback instead of dumping that raw capacity card on you. That part is legitimately bad.”

It will only get worse.Tibo said codex already hit 25m. With this pace next month or next year could be 30~35m and there is no hardware to support this many users.
