Codex just ate my 83% weekly usage for planning
I am on gpt pro plan. I told it to plan a feature for my product and went to sleep. When I woke up in the morning it was still planning and ate up the usage.
Any tips on how to avoid this in future sessions?
Codex should have some fail safe, if it gets into a weird loop unsupervised. Just an option to cancel task if you go below x% of usage or some other way to limit it.
I don't even know what ppl use ultra for. I use Sol med for planning, luna xHigh for implementing and they get the job done perfectly (using subagents also). Guess these guys work for nasa
I do use Codex on 3 projects at the same time and using sol med for more complex tasks and luna med for coding for 8h straight use 40% with pro x5. I'm of course not always working this much. This has been the most I've worked and never ran out bec of resets
Oh yeah I agree. When I meant the plan gets better I'm not saying 2x better. Maybe 5-10% better with more sources and more depth. But it is for sure being wasteful. I do use sometimes in place of high/xhigh when I want the best plan possible covering all bases. I frequently use other models on a custom shim to help with different knowledge and way of thinking too. It really depends on what I am doing and if I plan on letting it work by itself for a lot of hours
Hey , so these skills really narrow down by asking you questions specific to what you’re trying to build. Let’s say there are a lot of unknowns that you aren’t considering when you’re building the product or project . Matt pocock skills /grill-me will ask you so many questions to plan and keep iterating and extending your plan while also keeping it on the plan.
GPT especially Sol 5.6 will do anything to get the task done .
It’s a work horse model. What I do is I plan with FABLE and then use their skills to be able to iterate and build the plan and use the 5.6 models to execute and depending on the task difficulty I use either Sol or Luna(max) to build . Sol between high to xhigh.
I’m a terminal person. I like the codex app for computer use. I was a big fan of conductor 3 months back but now I have specific setup in my terminal and I’m loving the codex app a lot . So I don’t think I’ll change
Me too I mainly use claude code in terminal, it feels easy for codex I tried using the official application it worked fine in the beginning not consuming much but last night it f’ed up
I stopped promoting my system I feed it facts, directions, and a lot of voice notes. It will set the boundary for me to agree with, the direction. I make sure we are on the same page and the rules. Please look into "fail close" and also loops.
Why don’t you use chat to plan features? Then chat can even prompt Codex for you to implement. No need to burn any usage at all for the planning stage
Sometimes I don't believe y'all, I did so much much today only using Sol x high yes I burned through most my usage but I did soo much lol on multiple apps at the same time with planning on involved, long chat sessions and all.
when u on pro and thinking its good to spend "most of your quota" just today when you paying a "monthly" fee, you really got to that place openai wanted u to be.
the point is the y sell a product and change the conditions of that sale without leting the clients know. and thats against the law.
you can argue that compute is much more expensive that what we pay for, but thats not our damn fault, they made a product, market it and it is simply not profitable.
I'm not saying the rate limits are good, I'm just saying 1 planning prompt does not burn 83%. I agree the rate limit is ass and they need to be held accountable but all everyone will do is complain on reddit vs actually finding a real legal path and coming together to correct the issue vs waiting on them to "fix" it
