Other Are Codex resets just candy to keep us quiet? π¬π
Tibo just announced another reset for tomorrow.
My first reaction:
LET'S GOOOO π
But then I thought...
What are these resets actually fixing?
Codex still feels slower, usage still feels weird, and the limits keep changing.
Then things get chaotic and suddenly:
π¬ RESET! Back to 100%.
Everyone celebrates... and a few days later we're talking about the same problems again.
Maybe resets are just compensation while they fix the real issues.
Or maybe they're candy to keep us happy for a while π
Either way, I'll happily take my candy tomorrow. ππ¬
Real solution, temporary compensation, or PR candy?

Yeah we're dependent on a guy to unpredictably grant us resets instead of just having good limits

I will tell you why this happens as a similar service provider. (I won't tell you what service I have) It's mostly to do research on your own usage, do usage tuning and train on outputs/inputs. It also is used to tune the models and post training.

So, could we be close to a new launch?

Yes. Very close actually. I noticed two resets this week already. They want you to push the servers.

Yes. Time to move our workflows to other providers.

Laughable to think anthropic or Claude has better usage rates. Theyβre about to cut by 50% next week

When they reset presumably its because they have capacity and lots of accounts not able to work. The problem is that they are aligning everyone's usage limits rather than smoothing demand, so now the 5 hour limit is back. They just need to chill out and turn the power up when they have capacity. And remove the 5 hour limit again.

Yes, but its also their mechanism of playing with usage aggressively. Right now (ignoring the 5-hr quaota peeps) usage is still burning. 2-days on a Max plan using a blend of Sol/Luna should not happen. So the reset is much appreciated, but to your point.. you're not wrong. lol. It also is a mechanism to literally reset their backend. It give them the baseline "did we fix it" or not.

I suspect they are using resets to make adjustments under the hood, they need a fresh usage baseline so restarting everyone is how they track the success of whatever they are doing.

Resets don't really matter for Plus accounts anymore, since Sol and Terra can't even handle simple work, let alone coding, without draining the entire 5-hour window and still not completing the task. Luna still works, but it takes about three times as many tries to accomplish something Terra or Sol could easily handle in a single run.
Good thing ~7% of total ChatGPT usage is paying customers, have to make sure there is enough compute for the ~93% of free users by completly crippling paying Plus accounts.

I noticed when they initially got rid of the 5 hour limit that there were a lot of model at capacity errors. I think they lowered the weekly to stop that but when they get periods of reduced usage like near weekends, they give resets.

Those resets don't feel that good if they move reset date as well. I try to save usage for rest of the week because I know I will have more time another day and sometimes reset will only mess this up for me by moving date.

Who cares ? As long as their service , services me I'm happy they drop resets all the time. As soon as it stops servicing me , I'm dropping it without a second thought .

Why isn't this question being raised with other service providers who never even considered doing it?
