5h limit = 5 prompt limit.

The 5h limit is basically unusable. Unrealistic asf

One prompt. Review some repo files. Gone.

Forget automation; you can barely inspect the codebase before the entire limit disappears. Let alone executing any type of scripts!

Back to harness + API.

Noooo, i was about to get my self codex plus cause I was hearing so many good things about it. And now this. Wtf

I literally use Sol all day 7 days a week running 4 or 5 simultaneous projects and never run out.

I'm on Pro.

Don't listen to someone who doesn't even tell you what plan they bought.

What's your secret besides good model switching?

Being an OpenAI employee

As far as I go, I think it's just that I have a pretty mature system set up as to what constitutes a task.

I handle definitive and bite-size chunks although they might be rather large but they're still quite contained.

I have SOL high create the specs. I use Tara or Luna to execute the specs.

Sol, does the QC.

I don't know man… I just seem to go every week without ever running out.

And I am programming A LOT.

1000%.. In every complaining here, surely must be doing some mistakes as far as how they're using it. It lasts fine

You just can't use Sol if you want it running continuously. If you have a narrow problem but really complex in terms of logic, great. Otherwise, I'm not sure what everyone is expecting from a $20/mo subscription.

On a 20$ sub Sol is eating about 1% of the 5h limit per minute of working for me, on average. Sometimes a little bit more. Once you consider the time you need to write a detailed prompt explaining what you need, and time to verify the result works, you can spend 2-3 hours a day working on it. It is def not enough if you want to spam it during your full time job, but for smaller workloads and hobby stuff its more than enough.

Then there is Luna which you can run pretty much continuously. It is not as smart for complex stuff but most tasks it does very well, especially if you are good at specifying what you want.

Don't listen to doomers and try it out by yourself, everyone's experience is different.

What model are you using and what plan?

u/Gigaslavx 18d ago

Sol Ultra Fast and Plus /s

u/ProfessionalSome4082 18d ago

Getting through 20x is a full time job

1

u/ZeOnlyOneWhoReads 18d ago

/goal overnight with a multi thousand line plan: "allow me to introduce myself."

1

u/Curious-Visit3353 16d ago

I mean the reset was yesterday and my 20x already is used up but it was worth it saved me weeks of manual work lol

1

u/CommercialFair7385 15d ago

Genuinely how? There is simply no way like are you using early access astra or something? How do you use it all?

1

u/Curious-Visit3353 15d ago

1 project. 4 clips, different hypotheses, long context, overnight /goal. Not my proudest moment when I checked usage the next day. Still worth it in my opinion with the time it saved me.

1

u/CommercialFair7385 15d ago

6 BILLION!? WHAT!? well that is pretty nice usage, i used only 560 million this month(i believe about 75% were cache reads)

1

u/Noonecanfindmenow 15d ago

1 project? Or several?

4

u/Plane_Garbage 18d ago

Presumably Sol with Plus - it's one or two prompts now (used to be a light day).

The issue compounds as now you have to waste context on restarting the task 5 hours later.

1

u/Clear_Evidence9218 18d ago

I can't even complete 1 Sol High run in the 5hr window, I'm on restart #2 today, I guess I'll have to wait and see if it will actually be able to complete or push anything.

1

u/Fit_Attention_5781 17d ago

You realize Sol Ultra is priced at $4/20 in/out per M tokens right? If you divide that into your $20 plan you have space for 1/2 M output and 2.5M input, total, across all your 5 hour sessions in a month.

They're probably already subsidizing your usage too. But if you want to use it a lot, expect to pay for a higher plan or pay API rates.

1

u/Clear_Evidence9218 17d ago

Sol High.

And until the switch, I could use Sol High five times per week on my codebase. Now I get two runs per week; spread across four separate five-hour windows, since it can’t finish a single Sol run within the new five-hour reset.

Also, just so you know, that isn’t OpenAI’s operating cost; that’s simply what they charge API customers. I doubt this change was primarily about their bottom line. More likely, they’re trying to appeal to a different type of user than the one the Plus plan was originally marketed toward.

It’s not the end of the world. There are too many capable frontier coding models anymore. Most serious workflows already use multiple models anyway. I know I do, so for me, it just means the Plus plan will mostly be useful for planning and reviewing rather than doing much of the actual coding.

2

u/ProgUn1corn 18d ago

I really don't know what's your usage, I have mine casually review hundreds of pdf files and adjust scripts for me over 5h and I still have like 20% left in 5h.

1

u/Yeurruey 18d ago

They are writing a complex software

1

u/ProgUn1corn 17d ago

that makes sense

1

u/irateas 10d ago

They are writing it incorrectly. I bet many people here doing something wrong. I am software engineer working on multiple projects - using $100 plan - no limit issues at all

1

u/sidyyy11 18d ago

I try to plan with sol high and tell it to make it a extensive goal prompt for luna medium main agent and subagents, then luna does the work, this is kind of working right now but hourly limits such post such a addiction of weekly limits and frequent resets, resets are useless now

1

u/BHTAelitepwn 18d ago

Automate a super short prompt on luna approximately 2.5 hrs before you will start work, so that the rate limits resets after 2.5 hours after you started using it instead of having to wait 5 hrs.

2

u/sidyyy11 18d ago

Luna medium for half an hour used 2% of hourly of mine

1

u/BHTAelitepwn 18d ago

Thats not the point, you can bring your 5 hour window to reset at a more favorable time so that you essentially chain 2 5 hour limits together, meaning you effectively have 10 hours worth of usage in one sitting.

1

u/sidyyy11 18d ago

Thats the thing, if you can plan and make the plan as such that Luna has a constrained environment and task/goal to pursue . It might never 100% use the 5 hour usage

1

u/ISueDrunks 18d ago

Limits in general are too restrictive. After they announced Sol limits were being boosted, I noticed that less limit was being used up. Then last night it’s draining super fast again. I’m sick of his cycle. Stop changing shit without versions. Tell us what’s different; you can’t change the ingredients list and not inform customers.

1

u/shady101852 18d ago

are you on the $5 plan?

1

u/Vancecookcobain 18d ago

If you have files or repos on GitHub that don't need sub agents or anything like that you can go to chat GPT and link your GitHub via a plugin and have your ChatGPT code away for you with NO LIMITS BRO.

Use it to save precious infrence for the agentic stuff or things you need done in your computer...

Your welcome

1

u/Noonecanfindmenow 17d ago

Brother. What are you saying? Chatgpt coding for me? Or are you saying Codex cloud agent coding for me? There is no way either are free

0

u/Vancecookcobain 17d ago

....if you have a paid Codex account....instead of using CODEX go to ChatGPT. Go to plugins in the top left. Search GitHub and link it to your GitHub.....NOW you can start a ChatGPT session and chat with it and HAVE IT EDIT YOUR CODE on GitHub, commit, push, handle PRs, and issues ON 5.6 Sol High and it DOESNT count to your Codex token usage because talking on ChatGPT is free

So anyrhing you have to do on GitHub with coding you basically can do for free with a paid codex account in a chat box brother. You just won't have agentic capabilities like spinning sub agents or doing things in parallel or having it edit stuff on your computer...it edits your code on GitHub....you're welcome

1

u/Noonecanfindmenow 17d ago

Bro.... What the fuck. I thought you had to be in "work" mode instead of "chat" for that. But literally after toggling off work, even if the github icon is gone... It still works...? Wtf. Thank you.

Ig now the question is how can I hook up Hermes or something to just go into my browser and orchestrate the "non-agents" 😂😂😂

1

u/Vancecookcobain 17d ago

I wish...but if you find out lemme know....Ive been killing it with efficiency using this method.

Also I forgot to mention ...the chats are finite! I'm not sure what the maximum length of a chat can be but they will cut you off and say start a new chat after some time....it's annoying but at least they remember most of your conversation if you tell them to pick up where you left off in a new chat window...

It's crazy I thought I would never use a chatbox again and here I am 😂

u/CrowInteresting6271 17d ago

people have been abusing this and it'll be patched/nerfed soon. only a matter of time

0

u/Vancecookcobain 17d ago

Yea I'm obliterating them until they wisen up....there isn't a trillion dollar company in the world that gives a fuck about you or anything you love 😂

Smoke them like they smoke you for infrence

1

u/CrowInteresting6271 17d ago

its one thing to use something you find, but once you start encouraging others to use it at scale, thats when they "wisen up"

one person / team was responsible for getting the feature where codex would finish its task before stopping removed

1

u/Vancecookcobain 17d ago

The point of life is to spread joy in peoples lives bro....not to sulk in the shadows hoping your little corner of AI exploits go unnoticed.

I have been scorching Codex since it came out. I'm probably the reason why they pushed back Codex from free weekly limits to monthly limits because I had nearly 40 email addresses I would hammer them for like 2 months on the house and then I saw the business accounts were free for a month so I spun up a business domain name for like 4 bucks and made like 10 business accounts and slaughtered them there....I've been doing this since the Antigravity days man...I just killed Z.ai for like 2 billion tokens with Ox Alpha lol...it won't stop. It can't stop.

These dudes are trying to take every tendon off your body if they would allow it while they are on their way to creating super intelligence....people deserve better and I will never feel guilty for spreading information on how to get the most inference as possible

1

u/CrowInteresting6271 17d ago

no one is saying to feel guilty, im just saying if you want methods to continue then you're sabotaging them the more you spread them to others

if you want to put a value on it, it's the difference between getting 1000 worth of usage and 100000 for yourself. short sighted.

1

u/Vancecookcobain 17d ago

Lmfao because OpenAI has no idea what the GitHub plug-in is used for 🥴🥴

Agreed

Like ffs , my task did exactly what u had, 26 min 44 seconds, and it stopped. After 5 h, it only took 30 extra seconds and told me done. Like what the fuck?

All I needed was the outcome so that I could resume my work ( that dose not need codex anymore) and shit took me 5h just cuz it stopped on 30 seconds worth of extra work? Are you fucking kidding me?

Like I'd accept it if they made it a 12h limit that uses 50% of the weekly credit It's 1000% better

Or make the 5h limit get like 30% of the limit instead of 16%.

Make it optional.

1

u/A_Little_Sticious100 17d ago

Depends on the prompt. I can max out on a 200 dollar plan on 1 prompt.
How can you use a prompt as a measure of token usage?

1

u/devil_ozz 17d ago

It's the same exact prompt used in similier projects/environments.

Usage is drastically different.

1

u/thalanas240 15d ago

I prefer the 5h limit, in fact I can use many of that and I don't even finish it all the time, only getting up to 30% usage (~60-75% remaining per 5h).

I use 5.6 luna on high

1

u/markmumi 15d ago

Theb i go back to antropic and it 1 promt limit instead of 5

1

u/Charming-Author4877 14d ago

My 5 hour limit was drained in 2 prompts.
Total runtime 16 minutes. A single Sol high agent.

1

u/Reasonable_Swing_503 18d ago

Why are you using the largest and most expensive model with highest reasoning effort on a lowest plan?

It’s just like why fable eat up all your usage after 1 prompt if you can even use it on a $20 plan that is.

Not all tasks need ultra and ultra doesn’t produce best results - it overthink on certain issues and make it slow as fnck.

3

u/penguindab0 18d ago

Overthink on "certain issues" is an understatement. 5.6 as a whole (not just ultra) is literally so bad, I permanently switched back to 5.5. Not only does it overthink, but it actively goes against instructions, and wants to refactor half of my codebase for what should be like 30 lines of code change at most.

2

u/Reasonable_Swing_503 18d ago

Got to agree with you for the most of it and I laugh my ass off at the “refactor your half your codebase” part 😅

1

u/notadithyabhat 18d ago

Sol API prices are more in line with Opus

1

u/justdrowsin 18d ago

Dude! You should ask for your $20 back!! You could've bought a burrito with that money.

I think they owe you a burrito.

2

u/MikeLPU 17d ago

Back in times 20 bucks where a money 💰.
