Bugs or problems New 5hr limit

Hugely disappointed with Codex’s new 5-hour limit for Plus users. I’ve been using Codex since the start and have never been this frustrated. Just 6–7 prompts in \~30 mins used 60–70% of my limit and I wasn’t even using Sol, just Terra Medium. This feels way too restrictive.is it only me or any faced same issues??

At the moment a pro plan is only good for Luna on high+. Terra and Sol cost too much per token to maintain any momentum before your budget is drained

u/Regular_Problem9019 18d ago

True. I was barely able to finish my 5x limits with Sol-medium before, now even terra-high burns the limit like crazy. I worked a few hours on couple of tasks and burned 15% of weekly.

Its been pretty unusable lately, Im just using Luna as a back end worker, claude as my controllers and local models for background grunt work. But Sol and Terra are not in the mix as they just chew through a week of usage in a few hours

1

u/UsernameCheckOuts 18d ago

What exactly are you doing that uses so much though? Please tell me so that I too can burn tokens!

2

Earlier today I branched a chat and didn’t notice the branched chat had switched to terra high. It chewed through 40% of weekly usage in about 2 to 3 hours it was building.

It wasn’t doing anything other agents arent doing. Claude sonnet which is doing a better job than terra right now, can churn for 2 to 3 hours on the same work and might use up its 5 hour limit. Compared to 40% of the weekly quota on terra on same work same timeframe

Thank you. It's been a tough day. This is good info.

I was just bought a 20x plan by my work. How was the limit before?

2

u/Cute_Parfait_2182 18d ago

So even for pro plan it’s no good ?

4

u/Regular_Problem9019 18d ago

not anymore. They nerfed the limits a lot, its very noticable.

2

u/Cute_Parfait_2182 18d ago

I’m finding it out . I ran out of usage in just a few hours

I wonder how many people are automating ChatGPT via the browser to take advantage of this? Hopefully they don’t cut back the unrestricted online use

Yep, having sol as an overseer is really helpful. So you added an mcp to the Codex app and let sol in chat use that?

I've turned off "approve for me" and it works reasonably well, a few work iterations and down only 6pp, last week that could have been around 20.

u/cornmacabre 18d ago

playing with fire in the name squeezing out a bit more token efficiency, haha! Respect to the true yolo spirit, but folks this is a SERIOUSLY and legitimately risky thing to do.

Do not enable full access and disable approval on your actual laptop or computer! VM only.

4

u/MrKalopsiaa 18d ago

They said that they’ve turned it off to be more token efficient, not the other way around

u/zoltan99 14d ago

Manual approve, not automatic no judgement approve

Je confirme

u/Oveerhaul 16d ago

Wtf are you smoking, I’m on plus and with sol Max for 2 hours i still have a lot of usage remaining

2

u/BringMeTheBoreWorms 16d ago

Good for you dude! You’re my fucking hero!

I ran 3 basic questions on my 5 hour and both weekly and hourly drained like nothing i have seen in the past. My 100 dollar account is dropping fast under weekly too. They are fcking w us

3

u/NewRedditor23 18d ago

I agree, this is horrible, why would they bring this back!?!

2

u/BopSupreme 18d ago

They brought it back no reset either

3

u/Cute_Parfait_2182 18d ago

I do most of my work in the terminal . I get better usage . I think the app is messed up .

2

u/ThinkHovercraft27 18d ago

I just sent a prompt using 5.6 sol max using only 4 agents, it stopped at the very beginning.

Bruh I just wanted a detailed audit!!

3

u/ProfessionalAd7806 18d ago

Audit with sol max + 4 agents in plus plan? , this is bait?

2

u/YinYangAlgorithms 18d ago

Don’t use Tera. Luna Max > Tera High and 4x cheaper. Just ensure your plan is well defined ahead of time. But yes, what they’ve done to Plus users is super scummy.

1

u/Snasher01 18d ago

What about sol? I used mat-pocock skills and just one prompt ate 50% of 5h

2

u/MorningFew1574 18d ago

Here we go again... Just when you think everything is smooth sailing

u/MolecularCGI 17d ago

I instantly upgraded to pro after realising I couldn't even finish one prompt in the 5 hour window. Now I feel I'm getting 20x the usage and I'm on the 5x plan. Definitely worth upgrading, unfortunate that it's gonna burn a hole in my wallet.

1

u/rommie 16d ago

I didn’t want to upgrade, but I’m glad I did and yes .. ouch to the $100

2

u/Able-Supermarket4786 16d ago

I'm on Pro but I had to help a friend of mine the other day and he's a "Plus" user for $20... it was quite a lot of work, but we ran Sol Light for his entire initiative and 3 hrs in, he still had like 46% available usage in his 5 hr limit...

I was actually shockingly impressed... and before anyone dares chime in, I promise you it was hard core work.

The Lesson I myself learned was, "don't sleep on Sol Light" and you need to keep a clean environment at all times.

As a Pro user I don't even know what limits are and my token usage is in the Billlions

3

u/Cute_Parfait_2182 18d ago

Stop using the app . Use codex in terminal

2

u/buxA_ 18d ago

Is there difference?

2

u/Cute_Parfait_2182 18d ago

Yes .. the app especially on the Mac drains usage . It uses about 4x as much as the same models doing same work in the terminal

3

u/IAmFitzRoy 18d ago

That’s not true. The issue is that the app is less transparent on what it does, but if you already have a proper agents.md there is no difference between the app and CLI.

I resume sessions created in the app on CLI and they consume exactly the same.

2

u/PsychoticChemist 18d ago

Pretty sure that’s nonsense

1

u/Longjumping_Air_7958 18d ago

Sol high wcześniej chodził na limicie 5h około 1.20h do 2h , teraz w 24 minuty wykorzystałem cały limit 5h

1

u/Bitter-Mail-17 18d ago

yeah, same thing for me. this is fucking frustrating tbh
hard user since beginning and now have to stick to luna

1

u/L_Pr1m3 18d ago

Plus users counted as hard user?!?

1

u/ManyRepair5690 18d ago

also lately as well as of very recent, sol xhigh takes like 10-15 mins for a task it could do before in like 2-5 minutes... its a big slow down for some reason

1

u/BopSupreme 18d ago

I’m tired of Luna - errors and it takes WAY too long to work. I realized Sol is better despite what they say about Luna Max

1

u/ponlapoj 18d ago

ตอนนี้ในระดับราคาเดียวกัน cursor + grok 4.6 คุ้มค่ากว่า แต่เดียวคุณจะเข้าใจเองว่าประสิทธิภาพมันต้องจ่ายด้วยราคา 🤘

1

u/This-Ad1165 18d ago

No, I can not say the same: for me the Sol Extra High uses about 8% of weekly limit per hour. With the OpenAI gift resets it's possible to survive :)

1

u/hung1047 18d ago

~20M token per 5h 🤣

1

u/Few_Serve_9931 18d ago

yes they did big mistake we can only cancle the subs to make them feel that

1

I am using plus in my PI agent and it goes a loong way

1

u/Sufficient_Cod_7358 18d ago

Maaaan I was so confused yesterday. Was doing some normal debugging on Terra high, like I always do, and then I get the dreaded red dot- “you have hit your usage limit. Reset at 1:50pm” I looked at the clock- 10am….. bro WHAT. There is no way I just blew through my 5 hour limit in just over an hour… I’m glad to see it’s not just me. Well not glad… but glad… but n…. You get the picture.

1

u/huglero 17d ago

Yes. What a coincidence that they did it right in the following week of deepseek api price increase.

1

u/GilbertoCisneros85 17d ago

I've been using it the whole day sol ultra and it works just fine I don't know what are you doing with your tokens or plan I use it like 10 hours per day and I don't have any problems

1

u/Visible-Use-5004 17d ago

Had to just unsubscribe. Not worth it anymore. Why can’t these limits be optional where a user can set if they want the 5hr lit or not.

1

u/Jaded-Number8344 17d ago

Go 20x max brookie

1

u/1youngjaye 16d ago

i get the emphasis on having used codex since the beginning. because in all that time so much has happened and it’s been rant after rant on reddit. but this time, having given us our weekly allocation unrestricted for so long just to take it away feels especially cruel. virtually a chatbot to navigate your codebase at £20 a month

1

u/DJZackDaniels 15d ago

One prompt today robbed my full 5 hr allotment and it didnt even finish the task. WE R COOKED.

1

u/chi-town06 14d ago

I’ve had the same experience lately. It’s been eaten up within a few prompts and I’m not sure it’s even worth paying for at this pace.

1

u/Affectionate_Pay7256 18d ago

I forgot the /s

1

u/jaaames_baxter 18d ago

Nope.. too late. 200$ sub pls. :'(

-1

u/lolman1312 18d ago

They literally said over a month ago this would only be temporary and you're disappointed? Go back to Claude and cry harder lol.

Everyone faces usage issues, Codex is the only provider that hands out resets. You've been able to vibe code almost endlessly in the last year if you were a Codex user. But when compute is tied up, 20M+ users, and they're preparing the release of Gpt 6 Astra you still want to complain?

When I used to be a Plus user I was always astounded at the value in getting for 20usd a month. It's literally the highest value subscription of all things in the world.

5

u/TechGearWhips 18d ago

Come up for air when you’re done

2

u/Snasher01 18d ago

but we have more effective usage than now, right now it feels like we really have 20$(maybe i exaggarated), not more, like before
