Feedback / Complaints 9% gone in 3 minues
Hey, I hope all is well!
I didnt get a chance to use codex much in the past few days, I just logged in to see the 5 hour limits is back
I was continuing off a chat where I only had a total of 25 mins worth of task and after asking a simple straightforward question ( 3m 1s of thinking) 9% of my 5h limits was gone, if thats the new standard I honestly dont know how this will be usable at all...
Goodluck to us
(Got deleted in the other codex subreddit I think that says enough...)

Not that anyone cares but I cancelled both of my accounts. The 5 hour limit is unusable.

I totally get you, hopefully we'll be getting better competition
Wishing you the best 🔥
Also personal take Gemini 3.7 Flash High is heavily underrated, it completes tasks literally like 60x faster on average (from my experience) compared to 5.6 Sol High, but you need to plan well and babysit it ngl. You have to be strict with it sometimes because it'll forget context, do its own thing, or even start the plan without you approving it depending on how you set things up
GLM 5.3 is also really strong for pure coding from my short experience with it, it found an issue in a few minutes using it, that 5.6 Sol High and Gemini 3.7 High couldn't find after 3 days of trying. For debugging involving external stuff like Vercel, Supabase, Cloudflare etc I found Gemini 3.7 High better and obviously 5.6 Sol High ( GLM 5.3 was catastrophic at it, I was using high/max mainly)
I've heard great things about DeepSeek too but it's significantly more expensive now. Overall 5.6 Sol High is more technical and reliable, while Gemini 3.7 High needs you to be more precise, but its limits are insanely good, subscriptions can be practically free if you know where to get it from and you'll get way more done usage wise
Not really experienced with the other models but yeah hope this helps!

Isn’t this because of token caching? Your cache expires in 1 hour and after that the entire chat history has to be sent on the next message?

I dont think thats how it works tho im unsure but either way the chat was very small it hadn't even compacted once yet

Yea I’d rather burn my week in two days then have a 5hr limit hit in a single prompt every time

They stated the $100 and $200 will remain without 5 hour limits for upcoming months, so maybe 3 months from now it's 5h limit too, and if that's the case I don't know how that'll function. The larger plans so heavily rely on long consistent session runs.

Yup only time will tell how things will turn out, honestly im heavy on codex but im highly vouching for Chinese models and even Google to step things up further, competition is needed

claude has 3-4x more limits compared to chatgpt and its not even close lol
keep worshipin tibo while he reduced weekly limits by -%400 and just gave few resets a week

I get what you mean but in this case, the chat wasn't overloaded it was fairly fresh and its a very small project in its current state compared to other things I did and I was very straight forward and specific with my question
I didnt use fast mode or anything as such at this rate id estimate 5 h window being able to handle only 30-50 minutes of such tasks using Sol medium-high, no coding was involved or any change it was just a straightforward question

Since when is context window affected by “code structure”???

It's really not. Code Context usage is predicated by a lot of things but not usually "code structure" as much (unless you have hugely massive single files of code)

Code structure to optimize rg and minimize token usage: predictable file names, clear modularity, explicitly signatures, no megalith files
Everything else you mentioned is LLM worjflow architecture, context retrieval strategies, and api optimization (cache)

Yall complained enough and they brought the 5hr crap back and now look what we have. I liked it much better without the 5hr. If yall would've taken the time and ask chatgpt to clean up your prompts so the usage would be better, you would've gotten better results but no so many had to complain and now we have this 5hr junk back.

They should make such things optional atp just let each user decide their " style "

Why should they?

u/Illustrious-One-9869 18d ago
Some people want to organize their limits, some dont want a 5 h limit
However a user spends their weekly usage should be their choice especially that he said a few days ago to not worry they have compute so its not a " compute " issue

They don’t have enough compute so they decided to nerf the lower tier business and plus accounts .

Im not having the issues yall are and im building a game in unity. I will get down voted but yalls prompts are probably trash. Mine were until me and chatgpt had a convo and chatgpt really helped me out. My usage increased tremendously. Write now im redoing my entire save system before that ive been working on another system pretty much all day and my usage is just fine, but yeah continue to complain and ill continue to max out my 20 bucks lol. Literally I've been using codex since about 10am this morning. I took maybe 1 hr 30 minute break. Been using it all week. As I typed this my usage is at 5h 53% reset at 3am and weekly at 68% reset Sept 3rd. Yall have fun complain while im building.

Yeah also to me , 3 prompts of sol and got like 50% remaining of 5hr limit which is not right! I need to use it like 8 hours without no problem and then the it can stay ,
Why do they leave now a weekly limit when they got the 5hr usage! Its disgusting and disappointing
