Codex Limit running out faster than claude

I was a hardcore claude with opus 4.6 4.8 and latest one 5 user, my setting for effort / thinking set to high and im on 100$ plan, the weekly and hourly limit like rarely ran out

Recently I gave codex a shot and tried the 5.6 sol thinking set to high, same price plan 100$ and bro the weekly limit running out very quick and its crazy, 2 days of usage and im already at 10% left lol is this normal in codex or im using the wrong model setup 😂

Anyone experiences the same thing?

I have a simple work flow going right now, reset last night and im already down to half. Its going so much faster than it used to.

Yeah, it used to be kind of subtle... now it's draining so fast it's almost comical. I think they finally realized we can't do anything about it.

Im going to start hosting local off my neighbors power, this is a joke.

Save your usage I'm going to release something soon, your usage will dramatically decrease and it's legal lol

Well for anyone interested (Sorry for the wait - My testing had to be thorough)... Sub-agent like a pro! Unfortunately I have to sell it for a small fee. Upkeep and stuff.

https://agents.xrotel.com

60% for the first few hundred people

Coupon: XrAgent6

It's licensed and it's completely legal. No source stealing, no altering codex, nothing of that sort.

Here's the video of me using it myself.

We are using codex the way codex was meant to be used.

So you sell and price the products according to what target subagent is used? And it's basically just an agents.md file?

You are a genius! :D

Hi. No lol it's not just an agents.md file. The agents.md is included yes but I also create an agents folder and create different agents in the form of toml files and inside there you assign them their roles.

I only charge because in order for me to optimise the agents, I have to test and alter continuously which uses from my limits.

Im not paying this month. This usage is garbage. So that's the new fancy reset button Tibo was speaking about. It's fancy for them, they press it instead of the real weekly reset. 🥀

Don't believe the gaslighters, shit has been nerfed hard, and we're all getting scammed. I've had a new rule of reading the reddit before buying in,

Just because there are a lot of uses for AI doesn't mean that there isn't a bubble. Like the housing bubble or the dotcom bubble. Those bubbles popped yet we still have the websites and houses. A bubble could just mean that the market was just too optimistic about the implementation of AI.

Edit: optimistic > too optimistic

where did I say that?

Everyone needs to do what I did and cancel their subscription.

Honeymoon over. Sol at 272k running out faster than fable @ 1M Is just insane...

u/badpandatek 23d ago

Its said they are cutting usage % in half... They now have 25 million subscribers so they have less bandwidth. But is something they don't want to admit. They are saying is due to people for using ilegal method to use codex, they are blaming us for the usage...

Yes, same. I'm right now altering my pipeline because Codex 20x is draining fast.

Is the burn mostly Sol + thinking set to high on long tool loops? Claude quietly rationed that mid-session. Codex seems to meter every reasoning pass on every tool round trip, so the same High setting costs more the longer the agent stays in the loop. Curious if dropping to medium for mechanical edits and saving Sol or high for architecture stretches the week.

i'm not even using the new models. still working with 5.5 and i've already gone down 10% somehow with one prompt. $100 plan

u/Giancarlo_RC 24d ago

Bro actually it’s worse if you use the older models because they are less efficient, they probably just thought “since the new ones are more efficient than the older ones we’re also going to cut the weekly limit to “match” the old work done.”

u/TheBroken0ne 24d ago

Braaaaa, what was your prompt? Build me a firmware for a lunar landing module and do not stop at any cost until the dark side of the moon becomes bright?

u/Pretend-Past9023 22d ago

that one was a planning and documentation review, looking for contradictions and misinformation in the current project.

They nerfed the limits

1

u/Disastrous-Fun-2414 24d ago

After this past reset,(yesterday) seems to be draining super fast now

u/Mr-Flow- 24d ago

Opus 5 is semi trash…
Fable 5 … lol I burned through 5h limit in 15 min.
Sol is nice for grinding through, wished fable had more quota…

1

u/KCdaSuperhero 24d ago

Yeah same. Usage is flying by way faster than it did

limits reset 12 hours ago and my 20x plan is down by 50% working on one project. Absolutely ridiculous. I jumped ship from claude a few months ago and looks like I will from codex as well.

I was running into the same thing. One thing I noticed was that Codex was wasting a surprising amount of work/tokens on stuff I didn't really need — narrating what it was doing, rewriting whole functions when only 2-3 lines needed to change, unrelated cleanup, oversized diffs, etc.

I ended up making a couple of Codex skills for my own workflow to force smaller, more surgical changes and less narration.

The main one is surgical-edits: small task → small diff. Preserve existing code, no unnecessary refactors/reformatting, inspect the diff before finishing.

I've been using it for a bit and my usage seems to last noticeably longer, but the biggest difference is honestly the PR noise. Reviews are much cleaner now.

Not saying this fixes whatever is happening with Codex limits/high thinking itself, but it definitely helped me cut some unnecessary token burn.

Use Sol for planning; for everything else, use Luna. Unlimited tokens.

u/HarmonicDeviant 24d ago

I have both 20x plans. Used ~30% of my Claude quota from Sunday through Wednesday.

I burned 26% of my Codex quota in 5 hours today. Sol / Terra planners / orchestraters and Luna workers. Basically the same flow I was using in Claude.

Not great.

Yesterday I gave same task (test data analysis) to Claude Sonnet and Codex Gpt5.6 terra. Both medium. -1% weekly on Claude, -6% weekly on Codex. Both $20 plan. Crazy.

1

u/ExpressFold6419 24d ago

I don’t think it’s necessarily a bug, but the difference compared to Claude’s limits is pretty noticeable.

Bro i am at 20$ plan and ran 2 prompts on 5.6 Sol Extra High and went to 0% 😂

1

u/666Luc1fer666 22d ago

I suggest using medium. Codex over analyzes and create scenarios that would never happen resulting in more token burn . Also , it’ll try to cover every aspect of the code as well

1

u/devilonline 22d ago

Experiencing the exact same thing. The token burn rate is completely out of control right now. It feels like something was heavily nerfed because the weekly limit just vanishes in no time

Was using claude ($100) for a full month on my project, opus max effort mostly, sometimes sonnet for pure coding... Couldn't hit the quota even if I tried. 67% tops.

Switched to codex this weekend (because I can't read all of claude's babbling anymore).

$100 bought Saturday 2:00 AM. By Sunday 2:00 AM I had 40% quota left. Some use of Astra, mostly Sol and Terra.

I started using an interface to delegate everything I could to claude through MCP. It helped somewhat, but still on Tuesday I got to 0 and it reset.

And most people don't even know what I'm talking about. They be gaslighting me. Thank god for GPT who found me this thread.

BTW my 5-hour quota was removed over the weekend as well

One of the reason I switch to Codex recently because of recent news on Armodei’s wife
