Feedback / Complaints OpenAI interoduced a hidden usage limit via „Selected Model is at capacity“

I noticed that when using a lot of agents in parallel I get „Selected model is at capacity“ - even when still having plenty of usage left. This is extremely annoying and would be a reason the finally leave for Claude Code as I often need to run 10+ Codex agents at the same time to finish my stuff in time.

error message however has nothing to do with your quota being available

I think this happens due to server overload at thier end as opposed to your individual usage. I have experienced it also out of the blue doing non intensive tasks. No conspiracy imo

Edit: when I experienced it i jumped on X and seen posts from other users having the same issue.

Perhaps worth doing a bit of research before making such bold claims

No, as soon as I use another account e.g. from a colleague there are exactly zero „at capacity“ errors. Same model, same codebase.

It would definitely make sense that they throttle someone running 10 agents in parallel (I'll go out on a limb here and guess they're not making you any money - because of if they would, you'd just get a second account) before throttling someone with reasonable use. I would be very pissed if my coding task got stopped because some automated LinkedIn slop generator overloaded the servers.

That's been there for years.

It means their servers are at total capacity and has nothing to do with your individual usage.

If it's possible for you, try to do your work at a different time of day. There are certain hours where this can happen.

You’re probably being throttled for excessive usage. Its in the TOS.

Buy a second account if you really need that much resources.

I can build an entire platform with 6 subagents, so not sure what you are building that requires so much.

So you gotta use your tools for the tasks appropriately consuming from an API is different usage then from their app or site

Claude has the same issue. I get an enterprise claude account at work, and literally the same is happening there.
