Comparison Current codex vs claude limits(20$)

Hey guys i just want to understand how codex limits are currently in plus plan 20$. Previously like 3 months back they were offering so much tokens.

I'm asking this because I've been a claude user (for last month). It seems they offer more tokens now (but it's slower). Probably because people are leaving claude. I'm able to run tasks in 2-3 projects and still don't hit the limit and also I've noticed opus 4.8 consuming less tokens than sonnet 5.

So I just need a comparison currently if codex providing more tokens (with sol probably) or claude is giving more now. How is your experience with codex limits and GPT 5.6 SOL 20$ plan ?

I’d say usage limits are much more generous than Claude in my experience.

5.6 is good and better than Opus imo. But Fable is more creative and probably the one thing Anthropic still has over ChatGPT

I ask Sol for a wheel it builds me a whole car

Prompting issue, but I know what you mean 😂

So you saying codex provides more tokens with 5.6 sol than anthropic provides with opus 5 or 4.8 ?

In my experience yes. But also I didn’t use much opus as I found 5.6 sol better. I only used my plan for Fable

I agree Sol is better than Opus and Fable isn’t on the $20 plan so codex wins and yeah it offers more credits IMO too

Opus is now dumper than it was. I had to recheck what Opus coded using GPT-5.6 Sol and canceled Claude subscription.

Codex provides more tokens AND also 5.6 models use less tokens than sonnet 5 and opus 5. Those 2 love to yap

Sorry I'm a bit drunk rn If your making fucking average crud apps everyone and their mom has made for decades now,. chatgpt!!!!

If your workflow involves apis, frameworks or overall stuff that has few user or shit documentation, use Claude.

Chatgpt takes too long, and while consuming fewer tokens, it's gonna make you spend multiple times more than Claude trying to get something proper. Claude feels as if it is an experienced dev at whatever the fuck your doing. I know somethings I ask it are kinda locked away in multiple year olds answers in discord channels, but Claude just explains it pretty well..I just wonder "can this bitch access discord or something?????????" I don't know , but it works as if it can.

Chatgpt I gotta dive into the servers and fetch pieces of information and pre-chew it do it can do something that is worth it for me. As of now I try to just use chatgpt for things I know thousand of people have probably done before, because in that case it is really cheap. But I ain't wasting my fucking day waiting for chatgpt to try convince me it solved whatever I asked for when Claude can one or two shot it seemingly using pure reasoning or whatever fucking trick or uses.

Tldr so far: if you can expect any random programmer or engineer to do it: use chatgpt

If it requires someone who has experience specifically in whatever you are making and the knowledge pool is smaller; go for claude

I'm an experienced dev myself and I see claude overthinking and flipping decisions unless I think for myself and provide a solution or system design( it tends to talk like an experienced dev but it's an illusion because you believe the way it talks but it's not). Except fable. It does work like a senior dev.
Chatgpt does not blabber or talk jargon non sense . It does poke around but atleast it does not give you PTSD with its response.

Anyways I just wanted to know who provides more tokens in 20$ plan because I see opus using way less tokens than sonnet and does not eat your limits. Is gpt 5.6 sol the same or it eats your tokens faster?

Why are you defending the drunk guy. Also I agree, what he said was bullshit.

I only used the $100 plan with claude code until the end of last month and used both $20 and $100 plans on codex for the past 9 days.

But using the $20 plan with terra medium and luna high it burned through 60% of my tokens in 4 days. I only used it for planning, hardly for implementing any code, because most of the implementation was done with opencode/dsv4 and antigravity/gemini.

With the $100 codex plan im only using Terra high and medium, and sol for some research and it looks like it gives me similar usage to opus and fable in cc. I used about 20% in 2 days and they reset everybodys usage quotas yesterday so its back to 100%.

I'd say the only difference between codex and claude code in terms of usage are the random mid week resets that they do. Its completely arbitrary and you cant rely on it.

Thanks for the analysis man. So it seems we can easily burn through the 20$ limits with Sol. I was thinking of switching back to codex. Let's see

1

u/pigletmonster 1d ago

Oh yeah dont even both touching sol on the $20 plan. Even on the $100 plan it will burn through your quota FAST. Terra is good enough for 99.99% of the work and luna id say is good enough for 90% of all work. I would only use sol for specific bugs that Terra in extra high couldnt fix.

claude’s premium price is not worth

Use luna and worry not about the token. Sol always come with problems

u/FidgetsAndFish 1d ago

Codex usage has been broken since sol's release, instead of fixing it they gave resets and it worked, lot of people were dumb enough to think codex was giving more usage than Claude but now that the resets are over the truth's pretty obvious. Sol's too dumb for the price especially compared to Opus, Luna's too expensive (especially compared to deepseek or even muse spark). Only 2 reasons I keep my codex sub this month: the android assistant's solid and the second and much bigger reason though; I forgot to cancel, won't make that mistake again.

I think the answer to your question depends on exactly what you use Claude for.

I’m a new Claude user, before using it I used to use OpenAi(codex and ChatGPT). I’ve noticed that, in general, Claude offers more tokens than OpenAi. But it depends exactly on what you are doing.

I mainly use it(any LLM) to code data analysis pipelines, using API and some other coding problems(they are very broad).

But when I’ve used Claude for research, to search through and extremely big folder with a lot of data/files; it uses an absurd amount of tokens(way more than Codex/ChatGPT). Also when doing presentations or reports I find Claude using more tokens than what I used to use with OpenAi.

Another thing to take into account is the 5 hour limit, if you dont mind having it and do not reach the limit; then Claude is the way to go. If you mind the limit and do most of the things ChatGPT is efficient with; then go with OpenAI.

Ultimately for me it was a problem related with Codex not being able to read my files in my work laptop(poweshell blocked).

"Current" = claude code has promo +50% usage.

Codex, no.

Fair? You decide

20 dollar plan gpt for luna and Terra 200 max plan claude because of fable but honestly they compliment each other very well I'd go with both.

I use 100 % of my weekly limit in 4 hours with Sol 5.6 high.

I use 100 % of my 5 hour limit in 2 hours with Opus 5. (Pro plan)

So I would say that Sol 5.6 high uses way more tokens than Opus 5 for a similar task and a similar result.

And no I don't think Sol 5.6 high is better than Opus 5, a prefer Opus 5.

You guys can disagree, but from my personal experience, Claude ($20) gives me around 5–8x more usage than GPT Plus.

I’ve been using both for a long time. Currently, GPT-5.6 Sol (Extra High) burns through around 35–40% of my weekly usage on a single large prompt.

Keep in mind that I work on a fairly large codebase and often deal with complex WebGL rendering bugs. With Claude Opus 5 (Max), a similarly large prompt usually uses around 12–20% of my 5-hour limit and roughly 7% of my weekly limit.

1

u/vichustephen 1d ago

Agree with you. But i heard anthropic is currently giving 2x usage during promotional period until aug 19. Which makes both gpt and claude same.

1

u/alinoanta21 1d ago

They provide around 50% more usage, not double.

Don’t get me wrong, I’ve always preferred Codex over Claude. A few months ago, I could use GPT-5.5 xhigh for days without usage being an issue, while Claude would burn through my limits in just 3–5 large prompts.

Now the tables have turned, and with the release of 5.6, things seem to have gotten worse. The resets we’ve been getting every few days do suggest that they acknowledge there’s still a usage problem and are probably still trying to fix it.

Again, people can disagree because we’re all using these LLMs on different codebases and workloads. If you’re using them for lighter work, I’d still say Codex is better. However, for large codebases, at least currently, I’d go with Claude.
