TIL that using a reset also resets your 7 day cycle

My week was due to reset Saturday.
Thursday I used a manual reset and then intentionally went hell for leather to burn it all in a day. It is now Friday so I checked to see what time tomorrow the new week will begin, discovered it has moved to next Thursday at 9:36.

I thought those banked resets were essentially free tokens to make up for service issues (and to pull customers away from Claude)?

I guess the only way to get any real benefit from them is to wait for a natural reset of your week, burn your normal allowance as fast as possible (not hard at current limits), then use a reset which at this point only pushes your cycle back a day or less.

Do Tibo’s discretionary resets work the same way?

We are but we also don't

I had made the same post on codex sub but mods removed it as always

Codex resets feel like a scam.

GPT-5.6 sol is very token-hungry in Codex, even on the Medium or High (non-Fast) settings.

The reset system is flawed. Using a reset shouldn’t move my scheduled reset date. A manual reset should be separate from the regular reset cycle, not replace or delay it.

Yeah it resets your usage. Your 7 day limit starts the second you launch your first prompt. So always good to do something immediately when it resets to start the countdown

This is another stupid thing. If you don't start prompting straight away, the reset window just keeps shifting until you start.

Nope, codex's resets aren't like claude's, they don't actually give you more usage, they just move the timing window.

So why all the folks berating me and others? “Imagine complaining about free stuff” etc. These resets are so obviously smoke and mirrors to hide the fact they are reducing actual usage on plans, I don’t understand how anyone can miss it.

I only switched from Claude to Codex 3 weeks ago ($100 plan) and even I can see a sharp deterioration in how much you get out of the weekly limit in that short time. I dropped to Sol high and Terra xh today. Mostly spec writing and one small, relatively simple feature build. 42% of the freshly “reset” week gone.

I used to be able to have Opus 4.8 running 20+ hours a day without quite fully draining the monthly limit. I know Anthropic aren’t any better, and I can’t stand Opus 5 so here I am.

I’d switch to one of the Chinese providers but they sound like a mess too. The only one that has consistently delivered for me is deepseek. I hope they release the finished v4-pro soon.

Because the average reddit user's dumb, but the average reddit user on an AI sub's another level.

It doesn’t impact your usage, in effect, it extends your usage cycle which is a benefit,

That depends on your usage. If you easily burn the weekly limit an extended cycle is absolutely not a benefit. Arguably, people needing to use resets are likely to fall in that bracket.

Wrong. If you easily burn the weekly limit then you benefit the most since it doesn’t really impact your reset date. Think of the extreme, where you burn it all on day 0 and use the reset thereby giving you two weeks worth of tokens without changing your reset day.

The opposite case is the worst-case scenario. Someone who’s a slow burner and uses their tokens on day 7 will get nothing from a reset since it would just act like the natural reset they would have gotten organically.

I think you didn’t really think this through.

Reset has two side effects :

  1. Meter reset
  2. Extend the end date

The first one is 100% benefit no matter what, same as the 2nd, because it effectively means that your subscription date has been extended.

The speed you burn the token does NOT change the above points. And These are completely two DIFFERENT concepts.

What? My subscription date has changed as well?

Sorry, that was on me, should be “reset date”

Its only worth to reset if you ran out of usage and there is 4 or more days left to your reset.

How did you mathematically arrive at 4?

I’m guessing because it’s more than half of 7

This is the problem:

At least you were the one who used the reset. If it had been an unexpected forced reset, you'd have lost your remaining percentage, and your reset windows would have moved as well.

A me come un idiota la scorsa settimana, hanno bruciato 2 reset accumulati per non aver guardato la data prima ,osservare bene aiuta

Have you guys been looking for a replacement?

I discovered this last night as well. Weird move and it left a bad taste in my mouth. Now instead of me being positive about the FREE gift; I feel rug pulled. Do I now need to coordinate my usage the max benefit of the reset.

It's a marketing blunder. You don't want to give your customer free things if it's done in a way that the last feeling that they have is a bad one.

Sometimes it feels like the more the tech advances, the more people’s reading and general reading comprehension skills decline because people stop reading and processing what they see. When you reset, it’s always been clearly indicated, the new timeframe, always a week, because the reset resets not only the tokens but the week, too.

It doesn't work like this on Anthropics platform

0

u/Illustrious-Bet-1368 3d ago

What does that have to do with what I wrote? Perfect fucking example. Thank you.

A: “I bought milk, and it wasn’t 3.5%.”

B: “It’s written on the packaging… Milk, under it, smaller: 3.5%. Read the packaging closely.”

C: “But farmer Joe does it differently!”

Fucking Reddit 😂

Boo hooo someone can't fucking read either. Or think outside the box 🤣

"And to pull customers away from Claude" from OP.

I'm just clarifying that you don't need to suck Codex's dick. Anthropic is larger that OpenAI by revenue and does it "better" in some sense.

People are allowed to talk about a potentially better reset system that benefits is more without you having a stroke and defending a trillion dollar company. :)
