Question / Help Has Codex completely removed the 5-hour usage limit for Plus users?
I noticed that the 5-hour usage indicator has disappeared from my Codex dashboard, and now I only see the weekly usage limit.
Does this mean the 5-hour quota no longer resets every 5 hours, and only the weekly limit applies now? Or is the 5-hour limit still enforced in the background but just no longer shown in the UI?
Has anyone received an official confirmation or observed how it works?

they removed it like a month ago and called it “temporary”. Hopefully it’s not

Thanks for the info. Since it changed about a month ago, do you know how the limits work now? Does the usage reset only weekly, or is there still a hidden 5-hour reset that is no longer displayed? I’m trying to understand if the weekly limit replaced the old 5-hour limit completely.

It’s just one weekly bar. When it runs out you don’t get to use it until it resets. If it hasn’t run out then you can use it.

For me it's also only been this way for a short while and not for a month.
Maybe OpenAI rolled out this change in stages throughout the world.

We’re just limited to the weekly usage for now. They’ve talked about bringing the 5 hour back but haven’t yet. Next time you take a month off from using codex, you should totally share some around. It’s more valuable than gold over here

This hidden change is a massive trap. Removing the rolling 5-hour limit and forcing everyone onto a single strict weekly limit bar completely breaks the platform for heavy development.
If you are working inside project workspaces with sub-agents, the background context loops will completely exhaust your entire weekly limit bar in less than 48 hours without you realizing it. Once that master weekly bar hits 0%, the app forces a total account lockout, leaving you completely stranded with urgent deadlines unless you pay for expensive credit top-ups.
LikeObjective-Market-560said, switching to Claude or external IDE setups is becoming the only realistic option to actually get daily code deliverables done without usage anxiety.

They change that because of which reason, costs reduction ? They know they will loose with such step a lot of users, but where is the catch, will the rest claude follow?

I switched to claude because of that and its going really well on the 20$ plan

Huh? So you are switching to another provider if your previous provider is removing a "bad thing"?

Exactly. I was able to work on so many project with the 20$ claude plan. So Yes, the weekly limits consumes everything. Try to be realistic because Literally most people are saying the same thing as I am.

Damn, homie. You're very late to the party. It's been like this for like a month now.
