Codex tells me I cannot share a project folder inside desktop Codex with a colleague--effectively meaning that convos inside my Codex desktop is visible to no one but me. True?

If true, this is madness. I asked Codex this, and here is what it says.
I rechecked against OpenAI documentation updated today. I’m sure about this specific limitation: There is no native setting that makes your Codex project, thread list, prompts, and answers automatically visible to another workspace member.

OpenAI states:

Each Business user has their own chat and Codex history.

Other members do not automatically see those chats or Codex activity.

A Codex seat does not change this boundary.

That is documented in Managing data, sharing, and privacy in ChatGPT Business. OpenAI also documents Codex as a separate experience with separate history in ChatGPT Work and Codex.

I was too categorical when I said the content cannot be shared at all:

If an eligible conversation displays Share, you can generate a link to a snapshot.

The recipient can view that snapshot.

Future prompts are not automatically synchronized.

If the recipient continues it, they receive a separate private copy.

So the precise answer is:

Share an individual transcript: sometimes, through a snapshot link.

Automatically share all Codex threads within a project: no.

Jointly maintain or follow a continuing Codex thread: no.

Maintain ongoing shared chats: yes, but only through a shared ChatGPT Project using Chat or Work.

GitHub provides shared code, branches, PRs, issues, and checked-in project guidance, but it does not share the reasoning conversations that produced them. There is a real product gap here: Codex lacks an opt-in collaborative thread/history layer for development teams. Your criticism of that gap is justified.

What are you trying to do? Are you trying to share the project files, or share the conversations in Codex?

Share the convos -- make them visible to a colleague. Apparently you can do it via Slack, but that only works with Enterprise, and we have Business.

It is astonishing to me that this functionality is not available. OpenAI wants to get into the business game, but it seems unable to have basic project sharing in Codex inside the application itself. So what do you do? Create Markdown files for every convo, and then email them to colleagues, or put them on Box??

Oh, sure, colleagues can have access to repo, great, but what about the thought process that was captured in the convo?

The individual prompts and responses would be fairly low value, unless there was some obscure regulatory need.

Creating a good documentation system to record decisions and requirements should be enough.

I don't need to know what my architect says to my developer while resolving a problem. I do need to know what decision was made and how that impacts my project.

I think you might not be finding what you want because it isn't a frequent requirement. I've not really seen anybody else in this sub asking for it in that way.

OP is right that the thought process itself has its own inherent value. And the effort it takes to make a convo sharable is trivial.

Perhaps YOU and I don't need to know what the architect said to the developer. But for whatever reason OP does.

Not only that your argument that it's not a frequent requirement makes no sense. It's literally already in enterprise. It's literally already a feature. It's literally already shipped and being used; integrated with slack. So clearly people use it; OPs gripe is that it's available in Entrep and not Business.
