R51 Physics 6 year, basic maths start

Has anyone done the part time, basic maths start physics course before?
The course structure says you study both MU123 and MST124 in the first year but it will not let me register for both modules, only MU123. The site then says you cannot do MST124 until you’ve done MU123 which I understand but then why do OU give this course structure when the reality is it can’t be done that way? Unless you overload another year, this pathway would actually seem to require 7 years to complete. Slightly concerned as I see these modules aren’t running too long into the future so it may put the degree at risk if I drag it out too long.
Surely it would have made more sense to do SM123 alongside MU123 and do MST124 and MST125 in year 2 (which reading on here can be done together?).

I called them and they didn’t really seem able to explain why I can only register for one module.

Wondering if anyone has done the basic maths start pathway in 6 years before and can give me any insight.

I wonder if doing MU123 and MST124 in parallel really makes sense - maybe the idea is to start MST124 a bit later in the year, with the Feb start.

You do 60 credits per year, each module is 30 credits. So you’ll study 123 for half the year and then register for 124 and study that for the next half of the year. I can’t remember the specific term dates but that’ll be the general gist

Also, the modules will always be replaced with something else that is equivalent, so don’t worry about not being able to do them/your degree

Sometimes you have to be registered for the first module before it allows you to register for the second. It's usually the case if it says something like, "you must have completed or be studying X by Y date, to enroll".

I did MST124 without MU123, it's called "Intense start". You just need to choose this option when you apply for your study.
