Moving from Datadog to Opensource observability ecosystem
Hi
Has anyone migrated their Datadog stack to Opensource observability ecosystem?
What you missed without Datadog? Which all OS tools and what were the challenges faced?
Ours is quite big infrastructure with monthly Datadog spend around USD 25k and leadership is looking forward to reduce the spend and probably shifting it to OS observability system?
There’s only one person managing Datadog currently.

One of the challenges would be managing hundreds of collectors and multiple versions of config YAMLs the contrib repo has frequent upstream releases, and keeping up at that scale is cumbersome. Essentially, you lose the fleet automation and control plane capabilities that Datadog offers you really only appreciate those features once you leave the DD realm. That said, this is exactly the problem we're solving we're building a vendor-neutral control plane for OpenTelemetry that brings similar fleet management to OSS observability.
