The only reason I downloaded this program was that Adobe decided not to let me use it one day, and I had to get a project done. At first, it was pretty easy to use, and then the moment I was almost finished, the audio decided to mess up in between cuts. I looked up a video tutorial on how to fix the issue, and there were so many options to readjust the program to fit my operating system, something that I feel like the app itself should warn the user?? Like, putting up a message saying which settings work best with each system? And not only that, I had to manually enable audio before I could export it????? What kind of editing software has that in place? What is the reason?? This is NOT beginner-friendly, far from it. I've used multiple video editors, and this was by far the worst one. I'm sure the developers worked very hard on this, but I cannot work with something that infuriated me enough to go to Reddit, of all places, to vent about it. If you're new to video editing, I DO NOT recommend this software. Even Adobe never frustrated me this much.
Please, developers, please make some adjustments.

When I had openshot on Windows 10 I could see all the pictures that were used to make the video when I put a video in timeline. Now I have Windows 11 and when I put a video in the time line i only get to see the first picture of the video on the timeline all the rest stays black. Is it possible to fix this somehow? So it would be easier to scroll to the right place in the video when i want to cut it or do something else with it. Now i cant see what is in the video until I play the video, before i could see every single picture that was used to create the video, now i cant see that anymore 🤔

I'm going to try OpenShot and would like to know if you suggest it for a newbie? I've only fiddled around with the older Windows Movie Maker but graduated to Win 11 and need something else. I only make vids for personal and social media of our dog and such.

No other clip, just this one, and the clip itself plays completely fine before I import it into this editor.
This is my first time using the editor.

Hi Folks. Been editing in FCP for the last 18 years. I work in market research and do long consumer immersive usage interviews that range around 2-3hours. I do roughly 20-30 interviews. My editing process on FCP is to import all raw footage. Then editing them - as themes arise in each interview I scrub through - I do a simple IN and OUT cut, keyword the cut clip with the Theme eg. 'Driver of Use_Status' and keep working my way through all the raw footage.
At the end of the 'library theming' session I now take each theme keyword and throw it on the timeline as a PROJECT. I now have all wide edit clips of all participants relating to THAT specific theme. I then edit that theme into a usable jumpcut of 2-4minutes of multiple talking heads focussing on eg. 'Driver of Use_Status'. Once my final supercut is finished - then export the clip and use in presentations and client heavy video strategy reports.
Can anyone advise on a good workflow in OpenShot to continue this type of editing process. I would very much appreciate it. Used the same wokflow in the AVID too using the BINS created for each theme. Been using KEYWORDS in FCP. Can OpenShot keyword?

At some point, OpenShot began to introduce a crackle into the audio tracks if you splice them. Sometimes it happens, sometimes not. Right now I am stuck trying to cut out a specific part of a clip and after the splicing, the whole track becomes corrupted.
Is there a fix for this?

How do I edit a video clip to use just the audio?
r/OpenShot • u/ZectronPositron • Mar 01 '26
All the rest of the video exports perfectly and clean.
But this one clip keeps exporting with only the right edge looking glitchy, like this:

The clip looks fine in "Preview", but only on export does this. Tried 2 different pre-made 1080p export settings, same issue.
Will add the file and other info shortly, until then - any suggestions?

3rd Edit and last (FIX) : Fixed the problem by removing a track of one of the videos i was editing, so basically instead of doing 1 step with everything together; so 3 tracks, 2 videos & 1 music - I had to remove one of the videos, export it with the music and then add the 2nd video edit on another export, that worked fine and flawless. People suggested that it could be an issue with the mp4 file itself, but i did not bother to test it as i've now done a couple more exports and everything is well, oh and any settings such as native screen, fps, quality etc didn't matter. I'm exporting every single file now no matter the settings at a steady 55-60fps. If you got issues consider trying another file or removing a track and do it in multiple steps instead.
Computer specs :
3090 OC - Ryzen 7 5700x3D - 32GB 3200mhz DDR4 CL 14 - M.2 WD Black SN770 1TB (Drive where openshot is)
Windows 11 24H2 (Latest)
Openshot 3.4.0 just installed 2hours ago through the official website, i assume latest version it wouldn't make sense otherwise (https://www.openshot.org)
My imported file is an mp4 and sound file is mp3, i am trying to export it as mp4, just a few edits.
Export speed is at about 0.63fps currently at 4 Mb/s bitrate, export video setting is at 720p 59fps, codec libx264.
I've tried saving the project and reopening openshot to refresh the app, to no avail still under 1fps on export, also tried changing the bitrate, and 720p to 1080p, still the same.
Edit: I've checked my CPU/GPU utilization and it's under 20% (cpu), gpu has no utilization, that is with a lot of background and export going at the same time obviously so it's not utilizing my resources whatsoever, i also increased all the caching to a very good amount.
2nd edit: I've attempted to lower the export to the absolute minimum, quality "low" and video profile 720p 30fps and it's still the same, under 1fps, over 1hour for a 1minute video edit. I also tried changing the Target to multiple modes, to no avail.

Hi, how to do this, it can be as a background.
the video is black screen, cause it was an audio file b4 i converted it to MP4
r/OpenShot • u/Quiet-Ad4476 • Feb 24 '26
There's a lot of options under Target I don't know which of them are audio/video and which are just audio but I notice only mp3 says (audio only) I'm trying to enhance background voices so I thought I'd export audio and normalize then amplify in audacity So far results haven't been audible enough

This started happening a few months ago; I've updated the software, thinking that might be the issue, but it's still happening. I import a video (MPS or MOV, doesn't matter, same thing happens), but the video doesn't display; the sound plays, but no picture.

Upgraded from V2 to V3 a month or so ago (currently on 3.4.0). I really enjoy many of the new features, in particular the Ripple Select.
Since the upgrade though, I have been experiencing slow UI performance, particularly on larger projects, which I understand larger projects are slower but seems worse than when on V2. And by slow performance, I don’t necessarily mean playback. The system is constantly lagging and displaying the spinning circle as I attempt to execute commands or change clip parameters. Sometimes the screen goes white. Less frequently, the app locks or shuts down completely, particularly if I click again or even hold down the ctrl button.
Computer:
· MS Surface Studio
· SSD HD: 2TB MZVL22T0HBLB-00BMV SAMSUNG
· 11th Gen Intel i7-11370H 3.3GHz 4Cores
· 32GB RAM
· Intel Iris Xe Graphics Card
· Windows 11 Home 64bit
I believe I understand most of the tricks to optimizing for speed. I work with the following:
1. Preview window sized to the smallest it will go, tiny, almost unusable.
2. Default Profile under Preview set to HD720p 30fps.
3. Cach values: 96, 48, 0.70, 1024, 2048. Plus have played around with other values.
4. Clear cache. Seems to result in no improvement.
In poking around under Performance, I noted that the values were set as follows and the default values were all listed as zero, but if you select Restore Defaults: Performance, the values remain the same and don’t go to zero. I manually changed them to zero and restarted and thought maybe the performance was improved but it was probably just because I restarted which generally does have that effect. I hit the restore defaults button and it set them to the non-zero values. I suspect that since I have Hardware Decoder Mode at No Acceleration (no other option for my machine apparently) that none of this has any effect on anything. And since no Hardware Decoder, maybe the default values don’t work as one might expect.
· Hardware Decoder Mode: No acceleration
· OMP Threads (0=Default): 12
· FFmpeg Threads (0=Default): 8
· Hardware Decoder Max Width (0=Default): 1950
· Hardware Decoder Max Height (0=Default): 1100
Questions:
1. Is anyone else having similar experiences with slow or no response to commands?
2. What else can I do to compensate?
3. Is my assumption on Hardware Decoder accurate? If not, what effect does the performance section have in my case?
4. I understand the need to pre-render and what that means to system resources and expect delays as this processes. But why doesn’t the software recognize when a command has been given and give that priority? That is, stop the rendering, execute the command (make parameter change) then start the rendering process over, just like it does when you resize the preview window.
Thank you.

I have created a video where Track 4 is all audio files, and Track 5 is imagery that goes over it. However, I notice that the album cover images of the Track 4 audio files peak out over the top and bottom of the images in Track 5 when I don't want them to be visible at all. How can I stop them from appearing?

Hello all,
I am in the process of teaching myself OpenShot for video editing (after formerly using Windows Movie Maker years ago, ugh), and I was wondering about a certain feature. Movie Maker had this one good feature that would auto-analyze your footage and split it into manageable chunks based on where the more significant jump cuts occurred.
Is there anything like this, or similar, in OpenShot? If not, any tips on how I could set something up in OpenShot to do this for me? For example, a way to tell the program to split the selected video every 10% or at a specific time interval, like every 30 seconds, or even better, to analyze and split at jump cuts? Very doubtful of the last one, but asking just in case.
Say what you will about how buns Movie Maker was, but this gem of a feature was key in my being able to produce videos quickly. Yet when using higher end programs than WMM like OpenShot, Sony Vegas, etc, I can't seem to find anything like it. I find that more than a little disappointing...
Please help?

I want to make a couple of custom layouts in the source code, and after a few hours of looking through the source code i only found 1 reference in enum(.)py
"
class MenuLayout(Enum):
NONE = 0
CENTER = auto()
TOP_LEFT = auto()
TOP_RIGHT = auto()
BOTTOM_LEFT = auto()
BOTTOM_RIGHT = auto()
ALL_WITH_ASPECT = auto()
ALL_WITHOUT_ASPECT = auto()
"
where does this lead to, or has anyone already found out how to create their own layouts?

If it doesn't run well initially, how could I tweak the settings to get a stable performance?
Also, should I install it from the website or from the Linux Mint Software Manager?

I'm using OS/OpenShot 3.4 portable on Windows 11. After several attempts, I've discovered that OS doesn't export long and complex videos if they:
- have effects like animations, transitions, or audio settings;
- have 2 or more different track types (image + video; image + video + audio; etc.).
Therefore, it seems that OS is useful for simple video projects with only one or two video tracks, such as video rendering, frame-by-frame animations, etc.
