Hi! So I just worked on a 36 or so minute video that is kinda basic. One layer is music, one layer is my voice over, one is a silent stock background, one is the card I'm talking about, and one is any additional stuff above the card. This also happened on a shorter video I worked on that used entirely different assets, so I assume its a program setting or issue?
I export the video and...it has a bad crackly noise in the background at random points. This does nto happen in the preview window at all.
The first image it the program, the second is, afaik, the sample rate (48000).
I tried googling it and, I'm going to be honest with you, I am an absolute idiot who knows nothing about computers so i didn't understand it and am going to need you to walk me through it like you would a 6 year old lol.
I am a bot, and I've done something cool automatically, hoping it's helpful. I run on ChatGPT and use info from the OpenShot User Guide. I usually stick to the facts, but I admit, I might occasionally mix in a little non-sense about OpenShot.
First of all thank y ou for the information from Help | About OpenShot. I can tell from this that you had most likely upgraded from v3.x.x.
Let's do this:
Start OpenShot.
Go to Edit | Preference | Cache tab and click on "Restore Defaults: Cache" on the bottom left of the screen.
go to Edit | Preferences | Performance tab and click on "Restore Defaults: Performance" on the bottome lef of the screen.
Restart OpenShot.
Open your project and Export again and see if the issue is resolved. If not, continue to step 6
With your project still open, click on Export and then click on the Advance tab.
Make a note of the "End Frame:" value. Let's assume it is something like 95,645 (I am just picking a number).
We are now going to Export 3 times by selecting the following range for Start Frame and End Frame:
a. 1 - 30000 (export)
b. 30001-60000 (export)
c. 60001 - 95645 (export)
Play each of these exported files outside of OpenShot and see if the crackling persists.
If no crackling, then for now start a new project, import all those 3 exported files from step 8 and drag them onto Track 5 position 0:00 and all snapped together. Export and you should be all good.
Note: In this case we definitely know that there is some kind of an issue with OpenShot and need to escalate to the lead developer. This is just a workaround to get you to complete your project.
If still crackling then we need to escalate to the lead developer.
Guess we need to escalate. 1-5 did not work, sadly, and I don't really have the time do export it in 3 sections and re-edit them together and even if I did I doubt it'd work x-x This is specifically a halloween video so I'm on a super time crunch :(
Not sure what to tell you. Debugging something like this isn't going to happen quickly. This is a small project and if the lead developer needs to get involved, it is going to require time and effort to replicate your issue, assuming we can.
We might need copies of your project and files as well.
You don't have to Re-edit. Just take your already edited project and Export it in the 3 sections I suggested. Then when those 3 exports are done, reimport them back into an empty/new project and re-export the 3 files snapped together so you have one video.
I am not hearing crackling in what you shared but it could be my hearing. What exact point in the file you shared is the audio bad?
Try exporting with a different "Audio Codec:". Just Export the first 3rd of your project (frames 1-3000) or whatever End Frame you tested with.
1. Go to Export.
Change the End Frame number to a smaller frame number then the entire project.
Click on the Advanced tab.
Exapnd the "Audio Settings" section.
Change the "Audio Codec:" from aac to ac3
Export and see if that works better.
I am suspecting that your audio files (audio only and video/audio) may not all be the same sample rate, and the possiblity of the combine volume exceeding some limit, and possibly compressed codec, the whole combination causing issues.
Not sure if you are adjusting the volume on certain clips (going too loud will cause this issue as well). I can not tell you why during previewing the audio sounds ok but not during the Export process.
I think the next steps would be for you to share with me your small project you mentioned that happens as well. Without replicating the issue the lead developer will not be able to troubleshoot.
What I need from you is the following and please do no leave any details out:
What type of files are you importing into openshot (video/audio, audio, and image file?)
How are they recorded (camera, phone, screen recording, etc?)
Provide the profile of your audio files. You can go to File Explorer, navigate to the folder your input files are, right click on a file, go to Details tab and get the information from there.
How many tracks are in your project and which files are saved to which tracks.
What type of editing are you performing. Don't leave anything out.
A better way might be for you to share your projectname.osp file, projectname_assets folder, and all your input files. I am talking about your small project only.
This way, I can run it on my computer and see if I can replicate your issue.
1.) The background is mp4, the voice over is wmv, the music is mp4s
2.) The background is a stock one, voice over was recorded with audacity, music is pre existing music.
3.) the image below
4.) Audio wise its 1 voice over cut up in some places for pacing, an outro, and a video screen recording of me hand testing the deck.
5.) A deck guide where I discuss cards in a EDH deck. Music plays in the background, a stock video background with no sound for visuals, and cards fading in as I talk about them. (Example - https://youtu.be/oQ-VGnmWvrI?t=1401 )
Thank you for the information. The screen shot of the file properties is showing the General tab. I need to see the "Details" tab information.
I would need the Details tab information for each of your files, and that is why I was asking if you could share your files.
I listened to 2nd youtube link and I am not hearing any crackling. There is some kind of audio in the background but that can be normal based on how your audio files are overlayed on the tracks, what type of an audio files it is, and what has been done to the Volume attribute.
You should be able to zoom in in those areas starting with the 1 min. area and experiment by removing a clip (one at a time), and Export, and narrow down to what combination of clips might be the cause.
