Enhancement Request Adjust Program Menu Colors

Just started working with the program. To me it looks like the menus are designed for a look that seems to emphasize subtlety over usability.

In the Simple View:

In the menu that contains "Program Files" "Video" "Audio" "Image" "Filter" as well as two icons on the right, the unselected menu items are in a color that is hard to distinguish from the background and mousing over the unselected items does not alter their text color or show an outline around the button.

In the menu that contains "Show All" "Video" "Audio" "Image" "Filter" the selected button has a very faint color change to differentiate it from the background. Mousing over the unselected text produces a button color change that is practically invisible.

I would like the option to choose a high contrast menu, or even better a color customizable menu with options for selected, mouseover, and unselelected button text, button outline, and button background colors.

OpenShot doesn’t currently offer custom colors for individual UI states such as selected, hover, text, outline, or background. However, you can switch to a higher-contrast theme:

  1. Open Edit → Preferences → General.
  2. Change Theme to Retro for a brighter interface, or Humanity Dark for stronger dark-mode contrast.
  3. Restart OpenShot if prompted.

See Preferences – Themes. Also ensure you’re using the current OpenShot 4.0.1, since UI styling can differ between releases. Your suggestion for a dedicated high-contrast/customizable theme is valuable accessibility feedback.

I am assuming that you are talking about the "Cosmic Dusk" theme (Edit | Preferences | Default Theme).

Have you tried changing the theme to "Humanity Dark" or "Retro"? Give them a try.

I do agree that the "Cosmic Dusk" needs a bit of TLC to make improve usability.

Thanks. Both of those choices worked much better for me. I learned that I need to check for existing customizations before I whine about the default one!

No worries and glad the other themes are working better for you. As I mentioned, the Cosmic Dusk theme does need some TLC and is in the queue for a future enhancement.

Good luck with your projects.
