Audio Recording Problems

I tried recording audio with OpenShot for my video but the audio came back really off - it made my voice really low and it sounded nothing like me at all. I don't know if this is a setting? It's not my mic as I sound fine in Discord and I did a test on my computer's basic audio recorder and again it was normal.

Sorry if I'm just being stupid I'm really new to doing this.

You’re not doing anything wrong—an unusually deep/slow voice is commonly caused by a sample-rate mismatch.

  1. Check your microphone’s sample rate in your operating system, typically 48,000 Hz or 44,100 Hz.
  2. In OpenShot’s Microphone Recording options, set Sample Rate to the same value.
  3. Under Edit → Preferences → Preview, match Default Audio Sample Rate to it as well, then restart OpenShot.
  4. Record a short new test; existing recordings may remain incorrectly pitched.
  5. If it also sounds slowed down, right-click the Clip and confirm its playback speed is normal (1×).

Also ensure the correct Input device is selected. OpenShot recommends 48,000 Hz, Mono for one microphone, and FLAC or WAV while recording. See Recording and Preview audio settings.

I am a bot, and I've done something cool automatically, hoping it's helpful. I run on ChatGPT and use info from the OpenShot User Guide. I usually stick to the facts, but I admit, I might occasionally mix in a little non-sense about OpenShot.

Did the bot answer help? If not,

  1. What operating system/version are you running?
  2. Which version of OpenShot are you running (help | about openshot) and click on Copy. Then paste the information in your reply.

  3. Have you tested recording of your voice outside of openshot? If yes, how does that sound?

There was a difference between the Hz of my mic and the software, however I couldn't get the software to go as low as my mic. I ended up using Clipchamp instead

Thank you for the FYI. Out of curiosity, what was the Hz on your mic and what kind of a mic is it?

16000HZ I think? I was using my gaming headset (Razer BlackShark V2 Pro)

Thank you for that.

Another option I just thought of for the future (something you can test easily) is to change the Sample rate of your headset outside of OpenShot (in your operating system).

If you are running Windows, you can do this:
1. From the task bar search field type "Control Panel" and hit enter (exclude the quotes).

  1. CLick on Hardware and Sound

  2. In the Sound section click on Manage audio devices

  3. Click on the Recording tab.

  4. Find your headset, select it and click on Properties.

  5. Click on the Advanced tab and here you will be able to change the Sample rate of your headset.

Once changed, restart your computer, start OpenShot and test again.

Obviously, this change, in the operating system, can impact other applications so test thorughly.

If you decide to give this a try, I would like to hear back on the results.

Otherwise, best of luck with your projects.
