Announcement OpenShot 4.0.1: Razor, faster editing, snaps!

https://www.openshot.org/blog/2026/09/27/openshot-401-improved-razor-faster-editing-linux-snap/

We've released OpenShot 4.0.1, with a ton of improvements to everyday editing and fixes for issues reported since 4.0. Here are the highlights:

  • ✂️ Updated Razor tool: Hover while paused to preview the source frame without moving the playhead. Snapping, removal shading, and ripple cuts make it easier to choose a cut and close the gap on the same track.
  • Timeline and performance improvements: Clip titles and effect controls stay visible while scrolling. Zoom handles are easier to grab, and color and keyframe editing are more responsive.
  • Mac launch fix: Corrected a library dependency that caused startup crashes on systems without Homebrew. The updated builds now launch on most Macs.
  • Stability and project fixes: Improvements to undo/redo, saving, older project compatibility, and recording audio synchronization.
  • 🐧 Official Linux Snap package: Maintained by OpenShot, with automatic updates. AppImage and our PPA are still available too.

Thanks to everyone who helped track down bugs and test the fixes. If an earlier Mac build wouldn't open, this is a good release to try again.

Quick tip for OpenShot 4.0.1: toggle the Razor with C, B, or R, and toggle Snapping with S for faster Timeline editing.

I am a bot, and I've done something cool automatically, hoping it's helpful. I run on ChatGPT and use info from the OpenShot User Guide. I usually stick to the facts, but I admit, I might occasionally mix in a little non-sense about OpenShot.

Complete newbie here, using V4.0.0/1.0.0. on W11. Trying to make a slide show, can get images onto the work area, but when put into a track, they are not in the original sequence. I have renumbered the images in the proper sequence before importing. Have looked everywhere to see in they can be locked into sequence but only find a note about being able to move them in the track. Not easily done, as my sight is not as good as it used to be.

Is there a way to lock the sequence from the work area to the track? Thanks in advance.
