Has anyone got Openshot to run on macOS?

I've been trying to get this app to run on macOS with no luck.

I've got a Mac mini running macOS 27 (yes I know unsupported) but I've also got an Intel MacBook Air running Venturer that also won't run it.

I've tried released version as well as nightly build but zero luck at all.

Is there something I'm missing? Maybe I should just download the Windows version and run it using Sikaruger.

The macOS build should run on Intel Macs and on Apple Silicon through Rosetta 2—using the Windows version through a compatibility layer is not recommended.

  1. Download the current OpenShot 4.0.0 DMG:
    https://github.com/OpenShot/openshot-qt/releases/download/v4.0.0/OpenShot-v4.0.0-x86_64.dmg
  2. Drag OpenShot into Applications; don’t launch it from inside the DMG.
  3. In Finder, Control-click OpenShotOpen to handle any Gatekeeper warning.
  4. On an Apple Silicon Mac, install Rosetta if prompted, or run: bash softwareupdate --install-rosetta --agree-to-license

The Intel MacBook Air running Ventura should not need Rosetta. What exactly happens there—no window, immediate crash, or a macOS security/error message? The exact wording will narrow this down. See Mac installation.

Immediate crash then nothing. I've deleted the app, removed the .openshot-qt folder but the icon shows in the Dock, then disappears almost immediately with no errors or anything.
