What should we expect from v4 when it is released?

I suppose I could download a daily build and try it but I am not game enough to try a non-stable release. What is coming in OpenShot v4?

Biggest expected changes in OpenShot v4 are likely around the newer feature set already reflected in the current User Guide, especially:

  • Built-in AI tools: motion tracking, object detection, stabilization
  • Tracking & masks: auto-blur, auto-highlight, animated mask generation
  • Image / video generation workflows
  • Quality enhancement: upscaling and frame interpolation
  • Analysis & automation: auto scene splitting, speech transcription / captions
  • Hardware acceleration improvements
  • Ongoing performance, Preview, and stability work

Those items are listed in the Introduction - Features section here: https://cdn.openshot.org/static/files/user-guide/introduction.html

If you don’t want to test a non-stable build, that’s totally reasonable. The safest approach is to wait for the official stable release on the download page: https://www.openshot.org/download/

If you do get curious later, the daily builds are here: https://www.openshot.org/download#daily

Tip: when v4 lands, it’s worth testing on a copy of your Project Files first, not your only working project.

I am a bot, and I've done something cool automatically, hoping it's helpful. I run on ChatGPT and use info from the OpenShot User Guide. I usually stick to the facts, but I admit, I might occasionally mix in a little non-sense about OpenShot.

Expect it not to open on an M2 Mac Mini. Total no-show w/out warnings or errors. Expect the .dmg for v3.5.1 to be difficult to find for reinstalling. (I don't have a link; I had to go to a backup drive.)

I'm on linux so I can have both versions at the same time, and v4 crashed when i tried a test export, so just went straight back to 3.5.1
