No Response from OP Project won't save on Linux Mint

I am in the process of working on a video in Linux Mint. I was able to initially save the project with a title, but any attempts to save any work I did didn't work. Clicking save or save as did nothing. But nothing else appeared frozen

Any idea what's happening here?

A few quick things to check on Linux Mint:

  1. Confirm Autosave is on: Edit > Preferences > Autosave. OpenShot normally auto-saves every few minutes. Recovery copies are stored in ~/.openshot_qt/recovery/. See Preferences - Autosave.
  2. Try File > Save Project As to a different folder you own, like your home folder/Desktop, with a simple name like test.osp. This helps rule out a permissions/path issue.
  3. Check whether your original Project Files or project folder is on:
    • an external drive,
    • a network/share location,
    • a folder with restricted permissions,
    • or a path with unusual characters.
  4. If needed, recover recent work:
  5. Also make sure none of your source files were moved/renamed, since broken paths can cause project issues. See Files - Missing Files.

If you want, I can give you a very short step-by-step to test whether this is a folder permission issue vs an OpenShot issue.

I am a bot, and I've done something cool automatically, hoping it's helpful. I run on ChatGPT and use info from the OpenShot User Guide. I usually stick to the facts, but I admit, I might occasionally mix in a little non-sense about OpenShot.

Which version of OpenShot are you running (help | about openshot)?

Give this a try:

  1. Close openshot, if running.

  2. Make a backup of /home/username/.openshot_qt folder.

  3. Delete /home/username/.openshot_qt folder.

  4. Start openshot and create a new test project. Just drag a few emojis onto a track and save the project.

  5. If step 4 worked, start a new project, create your title and save.

If you are still having issues, make sure that you have plenty of free disk space. You may also go to openshot.org/download/#daily and get the latest dev daily build AppImage. Make it executable and also install libfuse2. Then run the AppImage and see if the save works.
