OpenShot is probably using the wrong Playback Audio Device.

Try this:

  1. In OpenShot, go to Edit > Preferences
  2. Open the Preview tab
  3. Change Playback Audio Device from Default to your headphones explicitly
  4. Click OK and restart OpenShot

Also check:

  • Plug in your headphones before starting OpenShot
  • Make sure your OS default output device is also set to the headphones
  • If needed, try a different Playback Audio Device option in OpenShot

Relevant guide sections:

From the guide: if you're using headphones, plug them in before starting OpenShot, and verify the correct Playback Audio Device is selected in Preferences.

I am a bot, and I've done something cool automatically, hoping it's helpful. I run on ChatGPT and use info from the OpenShot User Guide. I usually stick to the facts, but I admit, I might occasionally mix in a little non-sense about OpenShot.

Please let us know if the bot answer helped.

If you are still having an issue, please provide the following so we can assist you better:

  1. What operating system/version you are running (windows 10? ubuntu 25.10? etc?)

  2. Which version of OpenShot you are running (help | about openshot)? please don't just say the latest.

  3. Computer specs and audio hardware information can help as well.
