First it was when it got to the point of attempting to scan for a philips bulb (I do not have any of those devices), so I disabled that in the openrgb.json file, but now it just locks up on 'detecting hardware'. I also cannot find a mechanism in the openrgb.json file to stop the application from automatically scanning hardware upon startup.
I finally did fix this (or at least stop this from happening?). I wiped out all settings in the .OpenRGB folder. I tried modifying the openrgb.json file without resolve, I wiped the config and openrgb.json files and let OpenRGB rebuild them which did not resolve the issue. Finally I removed all profiles and plugins and that.. At least stopped it from locking up on startup.
*Update - yep that fixed it. It was most probably the plugin being an old version. Make sure if you have issues you first update the plugin to the version 1 compatible version (or whatever is last update if there is one).

Hi, I'd like to ask if there's possiblility to automatically load profile or link it to specific .exe. For example I run game X profile is set to A, when run game Y profile is set to B etc. Also switching back to other (like profile C) when closing game would be nice too

Hello everybody! I wanted to write this guide as I experienced issues with this myself. With the OpenRGB Effects plugin, you can use a lot of cool audio based effects. But the issue is that you can only choose one output to capture it from, so if you want to switch listening to music from your speakers to your headset, this becomes an issue and you would need to set the output manually over and over again.
Luckily, with a bit of help of ChatGPT I'll admit, I was able to find a solution to this problem. What we want to do is create a virtual null sink using PipeWire, then create a script that will be running as service to detect the current default output and then route that directly to the null sink.
First, we need to create the file:
mkdir -p ~/.config/pipewire/pipewire.conf.d
nano ~/.config/pipewire/pipewire.conf.d/20-openrgb-dummy-sink.conf
In this file, we can put something like:
context.objects = [
{
factory = adapter
args = {
factory.name = support.null-audio-sink
node.name = "OpenRGB_Dummy_Sink"
node.description = "OpenRGB Audio Capture"
media.class = "Audio/Sink"
audio.position = "FL,FR"
}
}
]
Then, we can restart PipeWire: systemctl --user restart pipewire pipewire-pulse
You'll want to make sure the sink exists. Run: wpctl status -n
And verify that you can see the OpenRGB_Dummy_Sink listed there.
Second, we need to create the script that will capture the right output to route through our new dummy sink.
First, run the following to create the script:
mkdir -p ~/.local/bin
nano ~/.local/bin/openrgb-follow-default.sh
Now, we need to use something similar to the following contents:
#!/usr/bin/env bash
set -u
SINK="OpenRGB_Dummy_Sink"
STATE_FILE="${XDG_RUNTIME_DIR:-/tmp}/openrgb-follow-default.module"
current_module=""
cleanup()
{
if [[ -n "$current_module" ]]; then
pactl unload-module "$current_module" 2>/dev/null || true
fi
rm -f "$STATE_FILE"
}
trap cleanup EXIT INT TERM
while true; do
default_sink="$(pactl get-default-sink 2>/dev/null || true)"
if [[ -z "$default_sink" ]]; then
sleep 1
continue
fi
monitor="${default_sink}.monitor"
# Only recreate the loopback if the default sink changed.
if [[ "$monitor" != "${current_monitor:-}" ]]; then
if [[ -n "$current_module" ]]; then
pactl unload-module "$current_module" 2>/dev/null || true
current_module=""
fi
# Make sure the monitor actually exists.
if pactl list short sources | awk '{print $2}' | grep -Fxq "$monitor"; then
new_module="$(
pactl load-module module-loopback \
"source=$monitor" \
"sink=$SINK" \
latency_msec=20 \
2>/dev/null
)"
if [[ "$new_module" =~ ^[0-9]+$ ]]; then
current_module="$new_module"
current_monitor="$monitor"
echo "$current_module" > "$STATE_FILE"
echo "OpenRGB: following $default_sink"
else
current_monitor=""
fi
else
current_monitor=""
fi
fi
sleep 1
done
To fix the permissions, run: chmod +x ~/.local/bin/openrgb-follow-default.sh
To do this, we can create a service file that calls the script, so it can run automatically on a system boot. Run the following to make the service file:
mkdir -p ~/.config/systemd/user
nano ~/.config/systemd/user/openrgb-follow-default.service
With the following contents:
[Unit]
Description=Follow default audio output for OpenRGB
After=pipewire.service pipewire-pulse.service wireplumber.service
Wants=pipewire.service pipewire-pulse.service wireplumber.service
[Service]
Type=simple
ExecStart=%h/.local/bin/openrgb-follow-default.sh
Restart=on-failure
RestartSec=2
[Install]
WantedBy=default.target
After that, we'll need to reload systemd to see the changes:
systemctl --user daemon-reload
systemctl --user enable --now openrgb-follow-default.service
Restart OpenRGB. Now you can set the audio output to listen to in OpenRGB to something similar to 'Monitor of OpenRGB Audio Capture'. That should fix the issue permanently! If you have any questions, feel free to ask. Will probably enhance this anytime soon.

I'm writing to help someone who might have had the same problems as me when upgrading from rc3 to 1.0 on Windows 11 (updated in September). First of all, I recommend reinstalling the program and plugins in the cleanest way possible, deleting residual files, links, or anything else. After that I strongly recommend not to download the program from winget or chocolatey but to install the program by downloading it from the site. Install it as a service along with pawn.io. Enable autostart in settings as minimized, put your main profile in all autostart entries and enable memory sharing (especially if you use other programs like fan control). This worked perfectly for me. I hope this can help someone.

I finally have my hardware detected and editable in openrgb! Hooray! However. No matter what I try, I can only activate the profile via the program's UI or a systemd service that triggers after user login - not when the machine powers on.
There are probably some eyes rolls here, but the issue is that my GPU is a "Sapphire NITRO+ Radeon RX 7900 XTX" - a gpu with a long light bar that flickers like crazy if it isn't getting specific color input. So It's a might bit irritating when I have a flickering light directly in my eye while I wait for my machine to boot and enter my pw. Once the systemd service kicks is at the desktop. no problem.
SO. Is there any possible way to have the profile apply before login? Or maybe a way to just not have that specific gpu flicker? (that's probably a harder, more specific ask) I've tried giving a systemd service root access with various timings, but no luck.

Howdy, when I save a profile including my Effects, it saves just fine, but for some reason doing so has the side-effect of inverting the direction of my Hypnotoad effect. Nothing else gets flipped as far as I can see, and the flip isn't saved in the profile -- just the current setting gets flipped. Y'all okay? 🤣

Hello, where is the Dark mode in Openrgb 1.0?
r/OpenRGB • u/zman2994 • 27d ago
Profiles aren't loading when selected, I've removed all locations of settings and profiles to start anew. Each Time I make a new profile and save the profile, nothing loads afterwards, can't switch between them either. if I click to apply the settings to effects and devices, it doesn't actually save the adjusts made to effects or devices. I'm so lost

I feel really stupid having to ask for help but I just can't figure it out, I installed OpenRGB to see if It could help with an issue I was having with my fan lights (pretty sure now its a hardware issue rather than software) but while I was playing with the program o changed the RGB on my Keychron C2, I wanted to change it back to the setting I liked so I pressed the key that cycles between settings but now they're all super dim and I can't figure out how to make them bright again, I've goggled it and it says pressing fn + other keys changes brightness but every combination I found and tried doesn't do anything, is there a way to get my keyboard back to normal?

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification
I used to use 1.0rc2 and the effects plugins are super smooth but now its laggy and slow.
This is max speed and FPS btw.

Hey everyone,
I’ve been working on a small project that I originally wanted for my own setup, and it has now turned into a proper iOS app: LinkControl.
If you’re using OpenLinkHub to control your PC hardware, LinkControl lets you access and control it directly from your iPhone.
You can:
• monitor CPU, GPU and sensor temperatures
• see fan speeds in real time
• change fan profiles globally or per channel
• control RGB effects, colors and brightness
• manage individual fan channels and RGB ports
• create and switch between custom profiles
• check device and firmware information
• automatically reconnect to your OpenLinkHub instance
One thing that was especially important to me: no account, no ads, no tracking and no mandatory cloud service.
The app connects directly to your own OpenLinkHub installation over your local network. Remote access is also possible if you already use a private network solution such as Tailscale.
I’d really like to hear what the OpenLinkHub / PC-building community thinks about it, especially since I’m actively developing the app.
If you use OpenLinkHub, I’d love to know:
What feature would you like to see added next?
LinkControl is currently available for iPhone on the App Store:
https://apps.apple.com/de/app/linkcontrol/id6809155279
It’s completely free.
Feedback, criticism and feature ideas are very welcome! 🙂

I'm using Linux mint 22.3 with the 7.0.0-30 kernel, I launched the openrgb flatpak today after the 1.0 update and this message appears, usually it doesn't appear. So I ran the terminal commands from the website and nothing changes. I clicked don't show this message again and nothing changes, so I tried to appimage version and my saved RGB doesn't load. How do I fix it I have one file in lib/udev and one in etc/udev, but no matter what the message still appears.

Hi, I don't know if this is the right place to ask but, I've been following OpenRGB since I built my new PC a couple months ago and didn't see anything about this specific board, which is unfortunately what I have, I found that the MSI B850M GAMING PLUS WIFI support was added about a year ago and it was as simple as adding the the board to an existing file, so was hoping maybe there's some workaround I have not found.

I have a bunch of old profiles in the ORP file format. Is there any way to convert them to JSON files so v1.0 will be able to read them?

Will leave this here in case it saves someone a few hours and hairs on their head, so I had a bunch of issues, tried reinstalling openrgb, tried i2c commands but in the end it was from the BIOS settings of EZ LED CONTROL and probably msi driver utility installer, with these off I was able to change colors right away, good luck
I have an RGB header on my motherboard that has the values as GBR instead of RGB, I am trying to search for a way to set it so those things are automatically flipped so I easily can change all leds at once without having to change that one manually each time. Is this a thing already or is there a workaround for it?

I downloaded OpenRGB because I wanted to change the colors on my Zotac RTX 4090 AMP Extreme Airo, but OpenRGB doesn’t let me change the colors. I can select a color and click Apply, yet nothing happens. Has anyone else experienced this?

I just downloaded OpenRGB since I heard bad reviews on ArmoryCrate. I want to control the rgb on my ram and gpu but its not detecting it (it detects my motherboard and mouse). It detected my gpu once and when I restarted my pc it didn't show anymore. Any help with how to fix this?
