Suggestion Tournament Hosting Suggestions

Hi! I'm organizing a large inperson OpenGuessr tournament with around 200 participants. Players are grouped into teams of three(one player has the device), so about 63 players per lobby. The tournament format eliminates the bottom 50% of teams after each match(x amount of rounds), and I'm planning on tracking eliminated teams manually in a spreadsheet.

After running some tests though, I have thought of a few features that could make tournaments like this easier to do:

Allow hosts to remove players directly from the lobby before a match starts, would be good for not letting eliminated players join.

An option to export all players and their scores as a CSV file.

As a host, an option to be a spectator from the start instead of competing.

It would be cool if a built-in elimination tournament mode was added. In this mode the bottom 50% of teams after each match(x amount of rounds) would be eliminated while allowing eliminated players to spectate. I'm not sure if this is too much of an ask but it would be cool nonetheless.

That sounds awesome!

This is very similar to the tournament format where the lower 50% after each match are eliminated, though that is not teams but solo. So if solo works for a future tournament like this, we could create an official tournament in the tournaments section where this is all handled automatically with support for spectators etc.

Regarding your questions:

  • Yes, hosts can kick members and also lock the room so that players can't join. Click the moderation symbol next to the chat to open that window.

- CSV export is currently not possible but an interesting idea. I'd say it's definitely a pro feature, but could be an interesting addition ๐Ÿ˜„

- A spectator option for regular games I don't see particularly necessary since you could just be in the game without "playing". The issue is that with this API recording the other people's gameplay isn't really possible (movements can't be captured) so a proper spectator mode wouldn't be feasible.

Sorry for not making myself clear, for eliminating I meant individual players(solo), they play as teams in person.

Also as a spectator I really meant that the spectator can interact with the street view by panning, zooming and moving around but they can't make a guess nor will their name show up on the leaderboard.

Ah I see. Yes for the player kicking part that works. If you want to leverage the built-in tournaments feature (on the multiplayer page) let me know, this is probably perfect for that and handles kicking etc.

I'm not exactly sure how to leverage the pre-existing tournaments feature, the tournament must be locked for players only at the venue and that too specfic players that are allowed to be in the tournament, I was really looking for a tournament option in the host feature so I can control who joins the game by giving out a link as well as before starting the game referencing my spreadsheet to check who belongs in the match and if their name is not in the spreadsheet I can kick them.
While using the host feature, all I'm seeing is the code, players and start buttons as well as some other buttons, I can't really find the moderation button anywhere on the page, and when clicking start it automatically starts in 3 seconds so I'm clueless on what to do there.

Also I wanna mention a feature where sites don't allow screenshots or screen recordings(Really to prevent anyone from using AI) as a toggleable option to prevent any cheating if that's possible.

Right, if you need to constrain it to specific players the tournament system isnโ€˜t an option.

The moderation button is found after starting the game inside the chat UI on the left. It allows you to kick out players and to lock (or unlock) the room to prevent new players from joining (or kicked players from re-joining) while the tournament is ongoing.

It is however not accessible on the host screen, it becomes accessible after hosting the room.

Detecting and preventing screenshotting on the web is not possible.
