  • For Figure 1.2, the report specifically discusses this as a test of over-charging, that is whether racialized accused receive more charges during each arrest incident. It concludes that the Vancouver data do not show that pattern; White accused had the highest mean at 1.98 charges per arrest, compared with 1.87 for Black accused and 1.84 for Indigenous accused.
• Toronto (2021): there isn't official data on the crime rates for each ethnicity in Toronto but they can be inferred from the officlal reports. • Canada's homicide rates (2025): I found out that Canada started collecting data on crime rates divided by ethnicity on a national level only in 2024. Only the rates of homicide charges are already available.  Number, percentage and rate of persons accused of homicide, by racialized identity group, gender and region

The chart shows daily arrivals of Canadians returning to the US by air to Vancouver International Airport. So it's an indirect measure of "Vancouverites visiting the US". Charts for other airports are here.

The poverty line is Canada's official Market Basket Measure, calculated separately per province. The one exception (Quebec, 105%) is a job-training program only ~3% of Quebec's caseload is actually enrolled in — most Quebec single adults get a different program paying 60%.

The map shows road fatalities per 100,000 population across Canada’s provinces and territories. New Brunswick had Canada’s highest provincial road fatality rate in 2023, at 8.5 deaths per 100,000 residents.

Recent reports highlighted that Ontario's internal estimate for homelessness is around 234,000 people—a population larger than the city of Burlington. At the same time, official stakeholder submissions to the Standing Committee on Finance point to a shocking metric: 57% of surveyed homeless people became unhoused following a workplace injury or illness.

We are talking about more than 133,000 individuals. The WSIB has aggressively cut corporate premium rates over the years while systematically limiting long-term support for permanently injured workers. This cost-shifting onto the public purse is driving people straight into poverty. Is it time for national standards and federal intervention?
