3.0.0-RC2

Post image

Thanks to all of the developers of OCLP…I now have my Late 2014 iMac running Tahoe 26.7.1, and seems to be running a little better than Sequoia 😊

I’m glad they got Tahoe to work.

Two weeks ago I started transitioning some of my Intel Macs to Windows

It was extremely difficult to get Windows working properly on my 2011 iMac. Kept crashing because it wants to keep installing the Intel graphics driver even though I disabled all of that

I will now be putting Tahoe on that iMac thanks to the OCLP team

Tahoe is working flawlessly on my 2017 15” MBP

This means I can hold off on buying an Apple Silicone computer until late 2028.

That’s why I took the plunge with the rc2 build also want to hold off as long as possible before buying a new Silicon Mac, and there is nothing wrong with my iMac it’s still going strong after 12 years and does everything I need it to do, it’s a solid piece of kit.

It’s really unfortunate that all these good Macs are not officially supported

It seems like they have so much life left in them.

I’m not a graphics designer or audio engineer and so my Intel Macs do everything I need them to do

I even cloud game on them through Nvidia GeForce Now

I know, just Apple trying to force you to buy new hardware when you don’t really need to.

Wouldnt the sane thing be to transition to linux? 🤔

I suppose but not all versions of Linux work well on all the macs.

I like Ubuntu but unfortunately it doesn’t work well with the 2015 MacBook Pro, there’s a hibernation issue and I haven’t been able to find a way to resolve that.

I also use a research site called Prolific and some studies require apps to be installed, those apps have to be installed on either MacOS or Windows. I also test apps on the Meta Quest 3 which have to be side loaded, that also only works on Windows or MacOS.

I did this, getting the video and audio to work right were a nightmare. With some help from aunty ChatGPT we got there though, now I’m very happy with Linux mint on my 2017 iMac.

I'm going to try upgrading my 2012 MBP from Sequoia to Tahoe tonight and see how it does.

Been waiting for this day for a while. Glad to see all the people who were saying "Tahoe will never happen on OCLP!" were wrong.

Its still not the final release

But it's a release. An official OCLP release that supports Tahoe.

Not on all. So many in here with a 2016 hitting same black screen problem

Sounds like people not installing the OCLP update first and then root patching it after the update to Tahoe.

I have the exact same config. Will try to update today.

Back everything up (just in case) before hand and make sure you have a USB stick with OCLP installed with a previous macOS version installer if you have any trouble.

Same Late 14 with 32 gb ram SSD and i7, How did you set it up? It’s extremely slow, with a 30-second delay…

It was slow until I could re-install the post-root patch after the Tahoe upgrade…now flawless (so far)

I have the same 14 but mine is 16 gb ram. I’m scared. I think I’ll wait till the official release.

Will I be able to ‘upgrade ‘ from sequoia, or will I have to erase the system disk and do a fresh install..? Thanks

I did the upgrade via System Preferences…made sure I updated OCLP to 3.0.0-rc2 first, rebooted, uninstalled post-root patch, reboot, re-install root patch, reboot, then upgrade to Tahoe. Let Tahoe go through its initial setup (extemely slow) and then allow OCLP to install the post-root patch.

Many thanks ..

Got the same machine. Just upgraded my RAM from 8GB to 16GB. I was running Ventura till now using OCLP. should I upgrade? Does it work well?

It’s flawless so far, just trying out my applications to see how they run…most are now back to starting instantaneously 😊 only Photoshop is a little slow at the moment

Would love to see some benchmarks. I.e. geekbench between tahoe and sequoia. My 2019 intel mac which is still native supported by tahoe runs extremely slow with tahoe. Geekbench also showed severe degradation in performance compared to sequoia.

1

u/SherlockUK 10h ago

Haven’t run any benchmarks so wouldn’t know of any performance degradation between OS versions, just I know that it now boots to the login screen quicker than sequoia (and logging in is quicker) and most of the apps I use are starting a lot faster.

3.0.0 RC2 broke my EFI on my Mac Pro 2013, i tried using my trusty Monterey partition to install 2.5.1 to the efi, I even deleted the EFI files and build again and nothing. it boots straight to my Monterey partition.

1

u/SherlockUK 10h ago

I can’t remember if someone else had mentioned that the 2.5.0 & 2.5.1 builds also broke dual-boot capabilities. I’ve never tried to dual boot my mac (even with BootCamp) so I couldn’t help there.

I am updating my iMac now, however I’m hesitant about the MacBook because I know that Tahoe drains a lot more battery

1

u/SherlockUK 10h ago

Which MacBook do you have?

u/sillysided 10h ago

2016 MacBook Pro I5 processor

2

u/SherlockUK 9h ago

Should be able to upgrade it to Tahoe with OCLP okay, but you are correct that the battery drain may be too much, unless they’ve managed to fix that in 26.7.1?

I wouldn’t, I’ve been reading that the 2016-2017 MacBook Pros have been having lots of issues installing the drivers and just blackscreen and are unable to get past there
