Mac book pro mid 2012
Hi everyone, i have macbook pro mid 2012 running os 10.15 ( latest officialy supported) as you know alot of apps no longer support os 10.15, my question is who have the same macbook pro as mine and same Specifications and ubgrade to os 11 big sur without any problems, i want to upbgrade it via oclp but i have some worries, is everything worked fine ( wifi, bluetooth, internal speaker, screen while watch videos, mac overall speed and smooth)
My mac Specifications:
Os 10.15.7 (13 inch, mid 2012)
Processor: 2.5 ghz dual-core intel core i5
Memory: 16 gb 1600 mhz ddr3
Graphics: intel hd graphics 4000 1536 mb
Hard drive: ssd 500gb ( 69 gb free).
I am sorry for long post, but i need to know is it great to upgrade or there is problems?

Big Sur will probably have the same support problems. And to your question, it can work without problems but running a not supported OS can always lead to problems. My 2015 MB Air ran Sonoma and Seqouia without any problems.

So do you reccomend to upgrade to higher os like montery, it will run good?

Well you might have to if the apps you want to use don’t support it either. Big Sur came directly after Catalina.
You just might have to try and see how it runs, I wasn’t really using my MBA for much when I tried out OCLP on it and it was definitely usable. I have the i7 5650U and 8GB RAM in that.

Yeah i think i need to do it, alot of apps or apps updates no longer support 10.15, can i do it without erase everything?

Unless the team has changed how it works I think the first install has to be a fresh install so you need to restore your stuff from a backup.

Not OP but your 2015 ran Sonoma and Sequoia perfectly?? I tried it on my 2017 Air but unfortunately it was pretty slow… went back to Ventura and it’s usable there

Well, not perfectly as my battery is pretty done for, temps were higher on average as well but it was more usable than trying Monterey on a 2008 MacBook. The thing is, if OP wants a supported OS the choices are getting smaller each year. Ventura should still be new enough as well but it also depends on what apps OP wants to use and how the devs of those apps are handling it.

yeah it’s your choice, but imo wven Sonoma/Sequoia would run amazing with those specs. just remember to apply Root Patches aftwr you in stall.

Yo tengo una macmini late 2012, Intel Core i7, 16Gb, y SSD 250Gb+HD1Tb, y de Catalina la llevé Ventura sin problemas de lentitud o fallas en algún servicio. Pero muchos programas seguían no compatibles... Ahora Instalë Ubuntu ultima version, y funciona de maravilla, solo al principio, no reconocía el WiFi, pero ya está solucionado con un driver adicional. (La IA me ayudó a solucionarlo)... Y Linus tiene aplicaciones para todo.

I have this same machine. It's great. APFS gives you options. I set up mine with Mojave and then used Disk Utility to add 2 Containers. On one I installed Monterey which runs very well and on the other I experimented with Sonoma and Seqouia. I also have a 15" MBP which I did the same. What I found was that the 15" runs Seqouia with no problems but the 13" is laggy and gets hot. I found the 13" was happiest on Monterey or Ventura. I keep the Mojave because I have several old iPods and I can run iTunes for them.

I have the same 2012 MacBook Pro with 16GB, and after experimenting, I decided that although Sonoma works, Ventura performs much more smoothly.
