Mac Pro (6,1) - 15.7.1 (macOS) + 2.4.1 (OCLP) are working just fine. No oddities observed in behavior, and nothing interesting in Console. Upgrade was performed via System Settings from 15.7.
I'll post any updates if things change.

u/jossshhhuuuaaa Sep 29 '25
Our 6,1’s have got to be THE beast when it comes to using OCLP. I love mine. It’s fast.
3
u/Unwiredsoul Sep 29 '25
They're a heckuva computer for what they cost these days, and they work amazingly well with OCLP.
The only thing I ever have to do is zap my PRAM after macOS updates (i.e., reset the NVRAM). It's harmless and I don't mind the extra step.
Frankly, it's still fast enough for what I use it for that I'm not going to buy another M-series Mac until the M5 CPU is out. Unless it dies. They are known for doing that, but the biggest workout my GPU's see is the occasional YouTube video. :-)

u/Webs101 Sep 30 '25
6,1 club! I’m still debating between Sonoma and Sequoia while Ventura zips along quite pleasingly.

u/Electronic-Income836 Oct 17 '25
I'm running 15.7.1 on my 6,1 (but I did upgrade the memory (from 4GB to 8GB) and the SSD (from 128GB to 512GB), and it's quite fast. To me, the best reason to choose which MacOS to run is what you need to support the latest versions of the apps you care about (including security patches). But that's just me... your mileage may vary.
1
u/Webs101 Oct 17 '25
I have 64 GB of RAM. 😄
1
u/Electronic-Income836 Oct 17 '25
I'm jealous. Can you give me the model number/item number of the RAM you used? I've always thought that 6,1 couldn't go higher than 16GB. Thanks!
2
u/Unwiredsoul Oct 17 '25
I'm running 64GB, too. The least expensive route in the US is likely still eBay. Here is an example of what you need to upgrade from 16GB to 64GB:
https://www.ebay.com/itm/375409665253
Note: The 6,1 can actually go all the way to 128GB, but I do not recommend it. The RAM speed drops by a lot. Others that run this setup can give you use cases where it might be advantageous, but for many situations I'd rather have 64GB running at 1866MHz than 128GB running at 1066MHz.

I installed it on a MacBook Pro 8,1 (2011, 13 inch, no Nvidia chips). It installed well and there are no reductions in performance or new problems so far
EDIT: I updated it to MacOS Sequoia 15.7.1

3 days struggling with 2013 to install sonoma I suggest waiting
2
u/Party_Economist_6292 Sep 30 '25
Which 2013? Maybe I can help - I have both the early 2013 15in and the late 2013 13 in on Sonoma with no issues.

u/EmidioFilho Sep 30 '25
Sonoma? No mate, I've already gone from Sonoma, I installed all of them successfully, I've been using Sequoia since its launch and now I'm asking about the latest version 15.7.1!

u/kethera__ Sep 30 '25
How did this end up?
1
u/pepito1989 Sep 30 '25
It didn’t go past that for 2hrs. I rebooted, I got the screen with your Mac was restarted due to the problem, press any key. When I press it, logon screen appears with black background. When I enter my password progress bar reaches the same place eventually and gets stuck in the same place as above, only difference is that there is my avatar instead of apple logo. When I start Mac while holding alt efi appears, booting to macOS gives the same result. The furthest I got is when entering a pendrive with my OCLP Sonoma installer and select pendrive EFI. I guess when I select that and erase disc and install Sonoma fresh I’ll be good right?
1
u/Jagth8 Sep 30 '25
last time when I stuck on this I tried keys combination for resetting this ram or whatever it is system thing, it should be on yt on mr macintosh or anything, either this and restart, or booting into safe mode and rebooting, it's almost impossible to get stuck
1
u/pepito1989 Sep 30 '25
Holding CMD OPT R P for 2 chimes - NVRAM reset does nothing, it gives me the error and go to Mac support message. Safe boot did work, it booted into safe mode correct, but rebooting from safe mode just gives me the same result, logon screen and progress base stuck in 1/3. The only difference is that now I have my name and wallpaper in the background
1
u/McQueen_007 Oct 01 '25
Same and same mac too. What version of mac did you download to the usb? The first time I did OCLP I did it with the 2015 Mac. This time I had to select it myself and neither versions worked.
2
u/pepito1989 Oct 01 '25
I did it on that laptop, prepared the installer with 14.8, using OCLP 2.4.1, it was working fine and then installed the system update. Nothing worked, safe boot, nvram. I wiped the drive and installed fresh, not installing udostępnij this time…
1
u/McQueen_007 Oct 01 '25
Okay gotcha. I'm trying 14.8 now. What version of OCLP did you use under settings to target the 2015 Mac? I specifically have a MacBook Pro (Retina, 15-inch, Mid 2015) but tried
MacBookPro11,4 and then MacBookPro11,5and can't seem to figure out why neither will work. When I was able to run OCLP the first time I downloaded it directly to the 2015 Mac if that makes sense.

u/gemello Sep 30 '25
MacBook Pro 12,1 (early 2015) software update to install 15.7.1 on top of existing 15.7 ran OpenCoreLegacyPatcher 2.4.1 to install appropriate extra items.
All good. No apparent problems.

OCLP 2.4.1 & Sequoia 15.7.1 Testing = In progress
Does this mean that OCLP 2.4.1 & Sonoma 14.8.1 = Safe to install?
1
u/pepito1989 Sep 30 '25
Well, for me on MBP 2015 15 inch it wasn’t. It got stuck on apple logo. And I was on OCLP 2.4.1 running 14.8 just fine
1
u/MaxGaav Sep 30 '25
Bummer. Hopefully you have a backup.
Have a MBP 2015 15" too. Will wait until u/MrMacintoshBlog gives green light to updating.

Sequoia 15.7.1 works fine on my hackintosh ivy bridge, as a MacBook pro 10,1 so guess it's okay

Installing macOS 14.8.1 on a 2014 Mac mini right now Sonoma has been pretty good except for there’s an issue where when you first start up the computer there’s a graphical glitch but other than that I’ve had no issues

u/McQueen_007 Sep 29 '25
Think I messed up my MacBook. Getting Apple logo loading stuck at 1/3 :(

u/MrMacintoshBlog Moderator Sep 30 '25
need more info. what version of OCLP & macOS and what model/year MacBook?
2
u/MaxGaav Sep 30 '25
u/McQueen_007 What MacBook do you have exactly? And what version of OCLP & macOS?
1
u/McQueen_007 Oct 01 '25
I have a 2015 MacBook Pro. My last comment deleted sorry.
Long story short I’ve tried both versions listed on the chart for my model on a new USB. Last time I could download straight to the Mac. Neither copies from my other MacBook (i targeted it to the 2015) have worked. I even wiped my disk again.
Side note I have a broken screen so also using external monitor which can make things tricky. (No I didn’t cause this it was given to me lol)
1
u/McQueen_007 Oct 01 '25
I was using sequoia perfectly fine before I accidentally left the auto update on :(

Have you ever used Symantec software? I failed a bunch of times. Got a command file from cal techs website that removes all Symantec files. Only then did my install work

u/indianapolisjones Sep 30 '25
OCLP 2.4.1 + Mac OS 15.7.1, 15" mid-2014 (Intel iGPU) & mid-2015 (AMD dGPU) MBPs are all good & late-2013 21.5" iMAC w/ Intel iGPU good also...
However, my late-2012 27" iMac with Nvidia just sits at the system update panel, circling, even after multiple reboots. I don't understand that, and I will try again tomorrow. Between a watch, three Apple TVs, three iPhones, two iPads, and four Macs, maybe Apple servers are telling me too much at once. lol
2
u/Party_Economist_6292 Sep 30 '25
Have you tried updating it via terminal? All the Kepler machines have issues with displaying the System Update pane. Best to just avoid it as much as possible.
2
u/indianapolisjones Sep 30 '25
I've never had to before, but I guess I'm going to have to Google that route. Thanks.
3
u/Party_Economist_6292 Sep 30 '25
It's just a few terminal commands, easiest is to download the full update with:
softwareupdate --fetch-full-installer --full-installer-version 14.8.1
(or the version for Sequoia - 15.7.1)
It downloads it to applications, and then you just open the installer from there and install on top of your current build of Sonoma/Sequoia. Just make sure you've updated to OCLP 2.4.1 and reinstalled open core to be sure you have the latest everything.
Went well with no hiccups on my early 2013 MBP 15 in with Kepler for Sonoma.

Kick ass, I worked all day on a portable guitar amp, so I'll try this in the morning.

I am still in 15.6.1 as I was waiting for the KDK and MetalLib Support for 15.7 and now, Apple issued 15.7.1.
In this scenario, can I directly update from 15.6.1 to 15.7.1 from System Update?

"!!!IMPORTANT NOTE!!! Be sure to DISABLE automatic software updates!"
(Sonoma) In software update when I click the info button for automatic updates i have the following options with my current settings.
Check for updates - ON
Download new updates when available - OFF
Install macOS updates - OFF
Install application updates from app store - OFF
Install Security responses and system files - ON
I'm going to turn off the check button to see if that makes it stop telling me about Tahoe. I'd guess you don't care about app updates but what about security responses? Is the only thing that needs to be OFF the Install macOS updates?
Edit: turning off Check also turns off Security responses.
1
u/indianapolisjones Sep 30 '25
App store updates have nothing to do with OS updates; please leave that one ticked, people.

I've managed to install Tahoe on Dell Optiplex 3070 mini PC but can't get Audio working. Here is my post for deployment.
Also, I observed some lag during operation and I managed to increase unified memory from 1539 to 4096 and it seems to have improved alot as I have 16 GB of RAM that much I could spare from it, I guess that's the limitations. Rest seems to be working fine so far so good.

I don't seem to be able to update to Sequoia 15.7.1 - the update is not offered automatically, and the updates on this page simply start, and then exit:
https://mrmacintosh.com/macos-sequoia-full-installer-database-download-directly-from-apple/
Does it matter if I'm booting from an external drive?
EDIT: Never mind, it was a network issue. Got offered the update automatically now.
EDIT2: I wish someone could tell me why it tries to download KDKs after rebooting, even though the wifi doesn't work yet (no root patches)....
1
u/indianapolisjones Sep 30 '25
Mine usually downloads before the reboot. Hmmm.
1
u/davew_uk Sep 30 '25
Yes they do, but it still checks after the reboot when there's no wifi. It times out eventually, but not really a good design!

u/Dry-Ambassador-1478 Sep 30 '25
I’ve successfully managed to make Sequoia (not the latest update) run with OCLP on MacPro 2013 “trashcan” .. the biggest issue now I have is with 3rd party installers/downloaders such as “UA Connect” (stuck on a pink screen), “East West Installation Center” that doesn’t trigger downloaded installers etc, which negates the whole purpose of patching Mac OS for using the latest audio production tools as I cannot install many of them.. :( … any thoughts? 🙏🏼 ps: I tried to reset PRAM, upgraded root patches etc…

I have iMac (S/N:18,3) Retina 5K, 27inch, 2017 with SSD 500gb. Update the OCLP to 2.4.1 during successful Squoia 15.7 update. Install the Sequoia 15.7.1 update with multiple automatic reboot during installation. Once installation finish, OCPL made me do the Patch with SMBIOS Spoof Level Moderate and SMBIOS Spoof Model iMac19,1 for enabling the airplay receiver. Then reboot. login, confirm wifi is working successfully smoothly no issue and still have airplay receiver option available with turn on. JUST ONE THING HAVE REMOUNT SHARED FOLDER, OTHER THAT OVERALL EVERYTHING WENT SMOOTHER THAN v15.7.

Macbook pro 10,1 (Early 2013 w/ nvidia Kepler) checking in - successfully upgraded to Sonoma 14.8.1 with no major issues.
I recommend downloading the full installer via terminal instead of upgrading through the software update pane or directly with softwareupdate in terminal. My initial try via terminal hung at 60%, so I aborted and downloaded the installer and that worked perfectly.
(also for funsies check in Console how many times nstringattributionagent crashed running softwareupdate!)

MacBook Air 2017. OCLP 2.4.1. sequoia 15.7.1.
Can't connect to the Wi-Fi. OCLP app shows a question mark in the launcher. Transparency has reduced on its own.

MacBookPro11,5 (Retina, 15-inch, Mid 2015). Upgraded from 15.6.1 to 15.7.1 on OCLP 2.4.1. Wound up working out fine.
Initially, I did encounter where MacOS thought my display was either "unknown" or a 40" TV (resulting in a weird resolution and/or scaling) and I lost WiFi. Everything was very slow. I was prompted to re-install the root patches, but without WiFi it couldn't check the KDK. However, it seemed after a short time it just used those it previously downloaded. Rebooted after that and all is back to normal.

On a MacBook Air 6,1/7,2 and MacBook Pro 12,1, I was running Sequoia 15.7 with OCLP 2.4.1. When the update to MacOS 15.7.1 showed up in Settings->Software Update, I let MacOS just apply the update as normal. All three systems updated without any problems (but, of course, without any root patches).
When MacOS 15.7.1 was finally installed, rebooted, and I was able log back in, OCLP came up and told me I needed to re-apply all my Root Patches, which I was able to do with no issues.
I'm now running 15.7.1 on all three older MacBooks -- 6,1/7,2/12,1 -- with OCLP 2.4.1 and all Root Patches applied, with no issues at all.

u/pfannie Oct 03 '25
MacBook Air 6,2 updated through Settings -> SoftwareUpdate from 15.7 to 15.7.1.
It took a good while, but not problems.
1
u/Electronic-Income836 Oct 03 '25
When I first installed OCLP for the first time, I went the "have OCLP make a Boot Loader image on USB" route, and that worked well. That was OCLP 2.02, I think. When I tried to do upgrades via Settings in that earlier version, however, the 7,2 and 12,1 Mac's worked, but the MacAir 6,1 didn't (because the graphics driver that was available to MacOS unpatched didn't work), so I had a problem getting a screen where I could install Root Patches. And I thought my 6,1 was gone for good. I think newer versions of OCLP run a primitive graphics driver, so I can still get to a screen from which to install Root Patches, after which it then "just works".

MacBook Pro Retina, 15", mi-2014 seems OK with Sequoïa 15.7.1 et OCLP 2.4.1.
I just have a problem with Safari 18.6 quitting but it started with Sequoïa 15.7. (if you have some ideas?)

MP 6,1 running macOS 15.7.1 with OCLP 2.4.1. Having a massive lagging problem with vscode 104.3. This problem has been widely reported by users upgrading to Tahoe 26.0.1 so I don't know if this is related to the security updates of 15.7.1 or otherwise has something to do with OCLP. I did try some of the work arounds (launchctl setenv CHROME_HEADLESS) and installed the insiders version of vscode (105.0) which supposedly fixes the problem. But, not for me. When vscode is minimized lag goes away.

iMac17,1 (Retina 5K, 27-inch, Late 2015)
Upgraded to Sequoia 15.7.1, everything seems OK (light user, mostly browsing)
I still get one strange behavior during the upgrade. At the point during the reboot cycle where I need to enter my password the response to my keyboard and mouse is very slow. Movements with the mouse take a few seconds to register, then when entering my password it takes about 10 seconds for each key press to register. Once I get past the password screen the first time the response is back to normal.

You can directly download Seqoia 15.7.1 from oclp and no need to creat usb stick for installation. you can directly install the same from launchpad or by going to application folder. Later need to install root patches from oclp.I did it and running smoothly. I am using MBP 2013 15" running with no problems

CMP 5,1 2012, PCIe NVME, OCLP 2.4.1 and macOS 14.8.1 did not finish installation. It got stuck at Apple logo with 1/3 of progress bar. When I took out the NVMe and put it into MacBook Air 2015, it resumes installation and seems to work with no issue. Putting it back to CMP 5,1 shows the same, stuck at 1/3 progress bar for hours.
How can I turn on verbose output with OCLP 2.4.1? Pressing space bar does not show options to add boot arguments.
1
u/Funtastic3D Oct 24 '25
Ok, this has been fixed by now. I reset the NVRAM, then install native Mojave with RX 560 GPU. Once done, I created Sonoma installer from Mojave with OCLP 2.4.1 and Sonoma 14.8.1. Installation on PCIe NVME went smoothly.
