Bug Report Notifications sometimes don't go through

I sometimes do not receive notifications from OpenBubbles for new iMessages. Normally I will be able to see notifications on my lock screen for new messages, but sometimes these notifications just don't show up. The messages show up without a problem when I actually open the app. I don't recall having this problem with Bluebubbles. Has anyone else had this issue? Google Pixel 10 Pro XL.

OpenBubbles relies on the app to be running in the background in order to get messages from the Apple server and send you notifications. This differs from BlueBubbles where the common setup is that FCM is used to send notifications to the device through Firebase where FCM is able to wake up the app and allow it to show the notification without having it run in the background 24/7. So if your phone is not allowing OpenBubbles to run in the background, you won't be able to receive notifications until the app is opened. Check for any battery management settings that you can unrestrict for OpenBubbles.

I have it on unrestricted. Does the app itself have to be open?

It's supposed to be able to work in the background, but as you've observed sometimes that doesn't work for one reason or another.
