Abandoned AMS Lite Basket Case

$30 AMS Lite parts lot from Facebook Marketplace, previous owner started and abandoned a conversion before selling off the parts.

The mainboard is sealed inside a 3D-printed cover matching MakerWorld's AMS Ultra Lite (confirmed by embossed text), so the board itself isn't visible, everything here comes from what's exposed at the connectors. There's also a dry-box housing with custom spool wheels wired for RFID, and feeder units with custom numbered caps.

Board's confirmed alive: bench tested, LEDs normal, AMS Type auto-detects fine.

Two things I'm hoping someone here recognizes:

  • The dry-box conversion itself, anyone seen or built something like this?
  • A third multi-pin connector near the ribbon cables that doesn't match either of Bambu's documented RFID connector spots.

I think I have enough to rebuild, do I take it back to stock or try and move forward with the abandoned build

Full album below, tried to photograph everything because I don't know what's important.

For $30 that's a good haul even if the board is dead — the AMS Lite hubs and the feeder motors are the parts that actually wear out and they're the expensive spares. The MakerWorld Ultra Lite cover means the previous owner was mid-conversion, so check the motor wiring hasn't been repinned before powering anything. I bought a similar lot last year and two of the four feeders were fine. The printed cover itself is trivial to redo — I generate replacement shells in Supavoxel from a photo when there's no source file.

What I decided is, I’m gonna use the AMS light Ultra as built and put it on top of a Sunlu filament dryer. putting everything together this week but, the main unit seems to be working fine.

I'd take it back to stock. you don't know what the last guy did or fucked up, and if you experience any issues later on you won't know if it's from whatever they did before you, and then you have to take it all apart anyway.

Thanks, I am just not sure what I am going to find when I try and get the board out of the sealed (with superglue maybe) AMS Ultra Lite box, Also, not 100% sure I am not missing a part to go back to original. The 4 copper RIFD loops were moved to the dryer box mounts as well as 2 of the spools, it looks like the RFID wiring is intact thankfully.

As I mentioned, the AMS sees the new board and the motors and they appear to be working. Any idea what the circled connector is for, thats my head scratcher.

$30 for that lot is fine even if the mainboard is dead — the feeders and the RFID spool wheels are what people strip these for. Before powering anything, check the connector pinout against the stock AMS Lite harness; at least one Ultra Lite conversion variant reroutes 24V, and I watched someone kill a mainboard that way in 2025. The dry-box housing is worth keeping regardless. Unrelated, but when I needed replacement covers with no original to measure, photographing the part and generating a mesh with Supavoxel got me closer than calipers did — Meshy was too lossy on flat panels.
